05:18 pm: teach teach teach
Teaching observation, #93846942369432: No one, including the instructor, is awake enough on Friday mornings to talk about the political implications of a certain ME meditation on the Passion of Christ.

06:53 pm: oh, reader personals
This is, quite possibly, the creepiest "I Saw You" ever:

"After the ice/snow storm I was walking by my neighbors car and thought I would clean it off, one of those good deed things. The car hadn't moved in a few days and was covered pretty well, and I was also not trying to set the alarm off again. I had really nothing to scrap the ice off in my car but a plastic band-aid holder. So I proceeded to go at it. After my hands were frozen off, and my tool was a rather failed attempt, you walk up.
You were cleaning off your white Ford 500 (I beleive) and you looked over at me in my struggle to complete the task, and had a look of concern that you wanted to help.
After a minute or two you came over asking if I wanted to use your ice scraper, (great choice of tools by the way) I said sure, and began to hurry. You mentioned you where late and I asked if you worked with any cool people and you laughed and said not really. I thought your face was amazing and said to myself "this my man" is the woman you've been looking for.
Thinking of how kind it was that with you being late and with your own car not totally clean but looking nice, I knew that I needed to get to know you better. I didn't want to keep you, but I felt that pause like maybe you were giving me time, but as now you know, I thought too long and here I am looking for you here.
So far I have traveled the roads looking for your car, looking for your amazing face, looking to talk with a woman of such kindness.
I will find you and I shall not stop until I do, until I ask you out, until I kiss your lips, and until I get a chance to treat you the way you treated me. I can read people pretty well, and I think that you and I will go down in history together, and we better get started.
So, if you see this posting and care to care again, I will make sure your car is always clean and warm in the morning, this I promise.
If you see a man traveling around every morning with a goatee and sometimes with dog in tow, slow down enough for me to change your life for the better and kiss your lips like nothing you've felt before. My dear, I saw it in your eyes and felt it in your heart that you are in my life forever, just wait and see.
Signed,
Still looking"

10:20 pm: A very, very serious question
My Valentine's Day present was a gift certificate to Exhale Spa:
http://www.exhalespa.com/chicago1723.html
(I do realize that the spa's description on the webpage is absolutely ridiculous.)

Anyway, I have never, ever been to a spa. So do I get a facial or a massage? Or something else? Any suggestions?

I was thinking about doing yoga, but I could just wake myself up a bit earlier and take the classes for free at my gym.

05:08 pm: A Warning, Dear Friendslist
I am paper-writing today, so you all can expect a series of short, pointless livejournal posts.

Such as this one, I suppose.

In light of the protest marches, here is an ad from craigslist:

Inspired by lj_double0hilly, here is my spring shopping list, edited to show what I actually bought )

And: why are there so many pleated skirts this year? Or, even worse, bubble skirts? Whom do these flatter?

09:57 pm: Either/Or
Instead of going to some club called "Spy Bar" with the Thursday Night Drinking Club, I am working on a paper.

Actually, I'm not even working. I'm just staring at the computer screen. While wearing sweatpants, no less. Graduate school is awesome.

04:09 pm: Hair recommendation
I went to Goran Coban's salon today to get my hair done, and he did a great job.

He opened his place 3 weeks ago, so a cut/color/style is only 64 bucks (and only 80 normally).

It is located right next to the Diversey brown/purple line station.

11:39 pm: To continue the ridiculous posting
Phone conversation:

Uncle: So, how was your first year of graduate school?
Me: Oh, pretty good, but I still have a bunch of work to do. I am writing a paper today.
Uncle: What is your paper about?
Me: Er... a reliquary.
Uncle: A what?
Me: A reliquary. It's...uh...a container that you put relics in. You know, the bones or teeth or blood of saints.
Uncle: ...
Me: ...
Uncle: Oh. Well, good luck with that.

How stupid. How embarassing.

I would like to think that I could just tell my fiance/family that I was getting cold feet. It seems a lot easier than planning a fake kidnapping, travelling by bus across the country, and then having to tell everyone -- my fiance, my family, the entire population of the United States (and of other countries, no doubt) -- that I had doubts about the wedding.
