random thoughts.

i found it funny that if my coworkers didn't know what the vulcan hand sign was, they made devil fingers instead.

not enough scotty.

spock/uhura. wtf? i did not like this at all. i know there's some unwritten law that you gotta have some kind of romantic interest in a movie, but for chrissakes, spock and uhura makes absolutely no sense. but then, if i was uhura, i'd make out with him, too.

mccoy was *the* best played character in that movie. pike coming in at a close second.

one of the things i absolutely loathe in movies is explanation instead of letting it develop through plot. HATE IT. spock's 'I TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND THIS IS WHY SHIT IS LIKE IT IS NOW' is even worse. i thought this was the weakest part of the movie. quite possibly also the most cliche tool used for a sci fi movie ever.

i crapped my pants at the [future] orion slave girl. win.

also, winona as spock's mother.

i dont think young kirk would have listened to the beastie boys.

i need one of those uniforms. neeed.

i thought there was too much action. i dunno, maybe it was because i was actually analyzing it for continuity and all that fucking action was distracting me. it was like trying to do calculus while you're sitting in front of the speakers at a KISS concert.

there was a lot of other shit that i can't remember while i write this that bugged me. some bits in this one don't really mesh well with TOS. BUT. i think that tht is a clever tool to open up to future movies where things change again and TOS as we know it slowly falls into place.

at least, i hope that's what's happening.

there were parts where i got a little teary. don't tell theonebob that, though.

i really need to see it again to soak it all in. overall, i thought it was a really good movie. the bits i didn't like were minor, but they bugged me SO MUCH that i cannot be all drooly over it. if that makes any sense.

afterwards, i drank too much vodka with theonebob and had an elaborate discussion on how kirk's brother fits into all of this. then we ran into gothikfaerie who i have literally not seen in years.

and now i gotta do laundry.
