| It must be said that procrastination is a skill that becomes ever more perfected as time goes on, the more exams you do and more assignments you have to hand in then the more ways you find of being able to waste half an hour or so doing sod all. I promised myself last night that in my first revision break of the day I would have a good old procrastination on LJ; so here I am after writing notes on my notes on hearing writing away, sat on the step in my uni room as the internet decided to stop be received at my desk and the floor is actually quite comfortable. Also just now a rat has leapt onto my lap to hep with this post and perhaps attempt gnawing on my watch strap. Exams are around the corner for everyone atm and it's a very strange time for us all. For instance, there are some modules that I have no clue about what to revise and another which I am not sure whether it actually needs to be revised, beign an open-booked maths exam on a computer. Also, it's that annoying time of year where the cold spring weather has started to be shrugged away to reveal a warm period to introduce us all to summer and which we have to spend the best part of which inside. The only break from this routine is when the ice cream man comes and we feel like we have done enough work to deserve a treat and a walk down the road. Is quite nostalgic really having an ice cream van pull up on the road; it reminds me of going round to totally49's house and it pulling up right outside; I think first time I ever went there we ended up going to it 3 times over a couple of days for oysters, ice cream and, naturally, vampires' blood. It is also with this ice cream man that I realise having a beard is a double-edged sword. As a good point, it means that everyone remembers you, but on the bad side, it means that everyone remembers you! I have people that I'm never sure if I've talked to adress me like a life-long friend and even random people in the street have something to add about it. I'm not complaining about this, I shaved off my beard just before Easter and lord knows I definately look a hell of a lot better with it that without it (I forgot what I did look like without it and after that I think I forgot for good reason) it is just slightly odd/amusing sometimes. Take the ice cream man, I think I've been to that van about 3 maybe 4 times over the past yera but he actually remembers me and has a little conversation with me everytime, which is quite nice and not what I expected but I'm perfectly happy to have one with him if a) it allows the procrastination to last a little bit longer , b) I can here what he's saying (which sometimes I can't) and c) if he continues to give me extra chocolate sprinkles on my 99s. Virgin Media finally finished fixing our internet and phone yesterday. Getting back after Easter we found that a power surge (thanks N-power) had fried all the wires on the street so they had to be re-laid. After we were the house to report the problem, when they did the work a week later they forgot to do the one going to our house and so had to be brought out again after another week. Internet got fixed but they broke the phone. Luckily they called me to respond to a letter of complaint I sent them so I could report it then and now, about 3 weeks later, it's all fixed! I also realised the other day that I've done a terrible job with staying in touch with people, a truly awful one. Was going to send out a big "What you up to?" wall post on Facebook (the most dreaded of sites) but I couldn't figure out how to do it so left it for now. I should really try harder though and make more of an effort over the summer (which I partly balmed for not seeing people last year) to meet up and do things. Oh yeah, speaking of summer this is our only one off so after a holiday at the beginning of June to Bulgaria and I work!:O On the weekend I was going to send out a load of CVs I rang up my dairy farm to get some info for a report we had to write and got offered a job where I could pick my wage and working hours so was pretty flexible, meaning I can take a break for any extra trips if need be. With the only application I'd sent out so far being to Games Workshop (mainly for sitting around and getting a 50% employee discount) I decided to snap up that job. Anyway, I've been at this for a while now and should really go revise Olfaction and Gustation. At least in a few weeks these exams will be over. | |

| I haven't updated in a long time, but I like memes so I had to do it:
Put your music player of choice on shuffle, and then write down the 25 songs that come up and at the end of each title add 'In My Pants'. Bold the ones that work the best. Laugh hysterically. Pass it on.

| Recently, we've been having lectures on the brain and on animal welfare. Last year when we had lectures about animal testing we were told that you have to get licenses for using any vertebrates but the only invertebrate you need a license for is octopus vulgaris. It was only the other day that our brain lecturer told us how they found out that this octopus was smarter than the average spine-lacking creature. Apparently a group were doing experiments to see if the octopus could relate certain symbols to being shocked (seems a bit cruel to me). Well, this octopus used to go hide in a bucket in the corner of the tank whenever the lab tach came into the room; the scientists thought nothing of it as they just thought it was associating seeing people and pain. The one day the lab tech was sick so his supervisor went in to do the test wearing his normal clothes and the octopus didn't go hide; this was interesting, the octopus could recognise white coats. So the guy decided to put on a white coat and come back expecting the octopus to go hide. The octopus stayed there; further studies showed that the octopus could tell the difference between people dressed similarly and could recognise faces! This led to this species of octopus (but no other even though their brains are probably quite similar) being thought to be a bit sentient. Amazing little thing. Still, some people aren't sure animals can actually "feel" pain and think it's an automated response which seems a bit silly but a good way to justify doing a lot of things. Went to see Juno tonight as shula_tiger got some free tickets. It was really good I thought; had the girl who played Kitty in X-men and George-Michael from Arrested Development. Right now I'm watching Torchwood for the first time; it's a bit odd and I'm not impressed so far. Reaper next, new comedy directed by Kevin Smith. Should really get to work, was just really interested in my tentacled buddy. | |

| Sat here watching Red Dwarf season 8 and having the Cat figure out that E11T = EXIT and now they're all plastercene and have found some Power Ketchup. So christmas has been good. It always seems to be one of those days where the hype never matches it but I found it really good this year. Master Reynolds came over since his parents went to Kenya and didn't take him so he would've had to spend christmas all by himself. The Doctor Who was a bit odd though and the next series doesn't sound very promising with Catherine "Chav" Tate, god I hate her. Life at the moment is a long repitition of revision and revision breaks, mostly being about the head this week. That's finally over and so we're onto Disease etc. tomorrow (can't remember the exact title of module). Looked on 30boxes today and found something odd... what the 5th January is to wormlover. I must say I am either very flattered or insulted that I am not listed also. Bit of a silly post as can't think of a decent thing to say that's interesting. Hopefully something will happen tomorrow which will cause so much drama that the next post will be turned into a novel and then a film. Until then, keep an eye on the box office. | |

| Post in Liverpool has been ruddy awful recently, what with our postal service deciding to take a few more days off than everyone else. This meant that a splurge I had that I shouldn't have had on eBay took a long time before finally coming. Strangely the item from America came before the items from England. You may remember that I was talking about some Lion models a couple of posts back and I actually went and won a set of these on eBay as an advance order and they got deleivered on Wednesday, not being released until Saturday in shops. I hoped that at this that it would arrive before Saturday, but it didn't so I hoped that it would arrive on Saturday but it didn't. This left me wishing that there was post on Sunday but preparing myself not to receive it on Monday. Woke up today very confused due to the loud noises coming from outside. At first I thought it must be some kids with some dustbins but then the brass section came in and it was realised that it was in fact remembrance Sunday. Getting up to have my bandage fall off and some porridge and then get back to trying to do some PBL when at some point (I can't remember when even though it must have been only a few hours ago) Steve came up to mine and shula_tiger's room to give me two parcels! Lions and an adaptor to place in the phone after the rats chewed through the first one! The adaptor turned out not to be compatible but the Lions rawk! They even come on a seperate sprue so some ingenuitive eBayer may start selling those bits seperately. But the whole thing of this story is that post on a Sunday astounds me! Who knew it would ever happen? Maybe they're just trying to catch up but the fact I experienced it means I can die a very happy man. I was in two minds whether to talk about my op or not here but I have decided now that anyone who doesn't want to know just won't read so we'll go for it. After a conversation with wormlover I feel that I should emphasise that this was done on medical grounds, not for fun as it may have been thought; trust me, this is not fun... I never met the surgeon, which I thought was strange but I did meet the anaesthesioligist(sp?) and some guy who's gonna call me up and ask me if it hurts in a week. Asaesthesia is quite fun, they put some in and ask if you can feel anything and then put something else in and tell you to lay down. It was then I thought, "hey, why don;t I count back from 100?" I think that I got to 97. Then BANG, you're awake, and wide awake; in time for tea:) First time I stood up I almost fainted and then again when I was waiting for the car to come. I really wish I had a form to fill in about my stay cos that place could do with shaping up! I would have liked to meet the guy who I was trusting to cut me, when I was given pain relief after the op they said I couldn't have paracetamol because I'd had that before the op when I'd had no pre-med and the nurse who took my catheter out just ripped it from my hand! The ward was weird as well as Shula and my Mum got sent away leaving me to wait another 4/5 hours before my op reading my book and listening to a chav get pissed about waiting and just walk out. I also couldn't believe people actually had their mobiles on in a hospital. So, does it hurt? It aches and boy do you know if you've knocked it. It's getting better though. The least fun bit was getting off that first bandage but at least that's over now. Basically, if you don't have to get it done, don't, and if you do have to, don't go there. This house is freezing and my internet sucks. My mum was surprised by how cold it is here as everyone else seems to want to get the gas bill down when we're paying the same amount a month anyway atm. She was also surprised how little anyone wants to clean. I shall go cook a roast dinner to warm me up. | |

| Today was bound to be a busy day where no work would be done. It had been planned on the first arrival to this house that there would be a "Steak NIght" as they have become known as here with quite a few people enjoying the Venissen that Finbarr shot in his homeland of Ireland (after being impressed I learnt that the deer that we would be eating (of the two he shot) only had three legs when he shot it so it didn't seem as amazing a kill). So this steak night was arranged for this sunday lunch and all was fine.
My parents recently went off to America for a holiday and have just come back. Now, I partly own a house on the Wirral that I will live in in 4th and 5th year but I wanted to take a look at it again to refresh my memory and to maybe see if it would be worth commuting to Liverpool from there next year. This was partly catalysed as the house were in this year is huge but it seems a bit soul-less and is quite expensive (plus people in it are quite messy and that's coming from me) so we at least want to move to a smaller, cheaper, more homely house. So I asked my parents when this could be done and it turns out that it had to be done on.... Sunday.
Sunday is here. We got up and ate (Asda sugar puffs that I swear taste better than the real thing!) and waited for my parents. While waiting for them I went to brush my teeth and found AMy coming out the bathroom and a very broken shower rail in the bath. It turns out that AMy had slipped in the shower and managed to fall out the bath and into the wall of the bathroom, pulling down the rail in the process in a spectacle that the mere thought of shall amuse me for years to come. As I told her, when things like that happen you have to laugh or cry and I know which I'd prefer to do. So, on the Wirral we looked at the house and it's great. It feels like a home and has so much space about it. I can really imagine living there which is good and I can't wait to be there but the commute to Liverpool every day would just be too awkward so we're staying in the city.
So we had a nice lunch out at an Ember Inn and I had some roast beef before we went to B&Q and back to the house to fix things before setting off back home. We got back in time for me to have a bit of venissen and for us to have pudding which was good. Wotoko.
My operation is on Thursday and I'm a lot more nervous approaching it this time than I was approaching it last time before it got cancelled. So everyone send good vibes my way on Thursday (that means you too Kev!) and touch wood everything will go okay... I can safely say that none of you shall be envying me.

| Today's been good. With only one practical to go to in the afternoon; I've had a very laid back morning. Since shula_tiger is at the polar opposite end of the alphabet to me, she's in a completely different group and so this morning she went (with the other vets in the house) to a dissection that I will be doing next week. SInce she left at 8:20 I was kinda awake then so was up at 8:30. A quick breakfast and a load of washing put on, I was off to Asda to get the missing ingredient to make my famous (only made them once before but they went down well) ginger biscuits. So I got to make them and then come up here to finish the 5th Malus Darkblade book and do a bit of work before talking to Kev for a bit, making a really nice lunch (after being horrified by the state of our grill). The practical I went to was pretty easy too; just looked at some different skulls of the domestic animals and answered some questions which weren't too hard. There were some cool skulls at the back too like a rhino and crocodile one which were good to have a play with. Bulldogs have really weird skulls... it looks like someone hit it with a frying pan; its bottom jaw goes further out than its top one and this structure leads to loads of problems. For example, trying to hold a dog like this's jaw closed to examine it can crush the nasal cartilages and cause the poor thing to suffocate! Oh what we did to these poor animals. Ended up that a practical that was meant to take 3 hours only took just over one which was good. I believe in my last post I was off to teach Shula to ride a bike. I'll let Shula say how that went... Soemthing GW are releasing has got me itching. I really wanna convert it lots and lots and make an entire army based on one model. Here it is: The whole model I don't really care about, it's the LIONS! They look pretty damn funk-ay and I want to use them lots and lots and lots. Screw the HIgh Elves, give me the lions. | |
|
| Shula's on the phone with her mum and then we're gonna go try and teach her to ride a bike so I came up here to turn my laptop off and thought that a quick update wouldn't go amiss. Life at uni is trundling on but I think I'm keeping on top of it a bit better this year; we even had a day off on Thursday and more scheduled, which is good as our first day off last year didn't happen until January! Yesterday, had a dissection of uteri of many different animals in which many people started fainting as the room is the hottest one in the whole faculty, you're forced to wear thick labcoats and to top it off the lecturer made us all crowd around her, on our feet for 45 mins where all our body haeat added to it and everyone's blood pooled uncomfortably in their feet. Not good.
Doing 4 modules this semester and am still yet to have a lecture in one of them. They apparently don't start until lectures in another one of our modules stops, Reproduction being a mainly PBL (Problem Based Learning) module and so that all starts the week after next. Not sure how that will go as I always prefer having the answer put out in front of me and then doing some example questions/scenarios so being given the scenario and then having to work out everything and teach it myself may go a little weird.
This year is more interesting at least. I like the module we're doing about disease and the body respnses, it being A-level stuff atm and being the nice background stuff that I always used to wonder how it worked. Digestion and stuff we have yet to have a lecture but it should be alright. The head (yes, an entire module on the head) is alright as we get lectured by a guy who looks like Father Christmas and it seems interesting and not as hard as limbs which was its equivalent last year. And what can I say about Reproduction... who knew that it was so complicated? Doesn't make it any easier that each animal is a bit different but hey, if I wanted it all to be the same then I'd have become a doctor.
What else is there? Well, I have been wanting a tatoo quite recently... A nice dragon design or just some symbol I design or steal from a source not many people will know of/taken it from before. Would be a nice birthday present some day:P Maybe I could treat myself for my two decades or 21st.
Rats are fine. They like lasagne and jumping, being very springy. Shula's (Misty) is a lot bigger than my little Willow but they both have nice personalities and are learning things fast. Only bad point is they wee-ed on my side of the bed the other day, forcing us to change the sheet:( Maybe I should teach them not to by doing the same to them later.
Bought 300 on DVD yesterday and watched it again and loved it again. Looking forward to watching the special features too, which is good for me as I normally want to watch a film and so ignore the features but all the ones on the disk sound pretty darn good. Well, think I've had more than my 5 mins so ta ta.

| I thought I'd be a good boy tonight and post before I do my other things on the internet rather than doing my usual act of thinking "I'll update later" and then lo-and-behold it's bedtime. So I have a film on (like I said I would on my comment on totally49's lj) and am ready to go. The film is Underworld, starring Kev's favourite lady, Kate Beckinsale. In this film, she looks like a female version of The Crow. I guess tyhey were probably going for that. Makes you wonder how gothic would the spawn of her and Branden Lee be. Started a new work experience place today and it sucks. There's nothing to do and they didn't send me home early so I'll leave it there. I promised a geeky post the next day a few days ago (it seems tomorrow on lj is a few days later) and so here it goes... With the uprising current of pitches for more and more comic book films, it's only a matter of time before my beloved Green Arrow takes to the big screen and so, I'd like to throw my hat in and let it be known that I volunteer to play him on the big screen. I think it makes sense. I know the source material so have got all the motivation down; I've had a few goes with the ol' bow and arrow; I've got green eyes in most lights and definately if I also wear green (which Ollie always does); and last, and by no means least, I already have the facial plumage. I can't think of a better candidate. Previously, Joe has suggested Keifer Sutherland for the part but his hair's thinning a bit now and I don't think his facial structure is right. The guy who plays him in Smallville ( Justin Hartley) has no facial hair and a face that doesn't look right so he can't be him (though he could be his son, Connor). Speaking of Smallville, I've quite liked it from first time I saw it. At first, I thought it was going to be "The O.C. with superpowers" but it's actually a good drama. Weird seeing other comic heroes in there now. G.A. is a bit weird with his leather outfit and silly compound bow (longbow all the way!). Will eb weirder when they put the better-known ones in like Batman and the Green Lantern or even (as my next bet is) The Flash. I don't see why they didn't use guy from Smallville as Superman in Superman Begins cos that unknown guy really sucked. Never pick an unkown who's bad for a big film! Silly director and his up-ing of picking unkown "talent". Anyway, that's it. Oh no it isn't, just found out that my walls in ym room are Lupin, and I like werewolves. Ooooooooooo! | |

| Had a bit of a bad day today. Wasn't all bad but there were bad parts to it. We'll go for the good first though... Got all my silly PCEMS questions answered including profiling several horses (one of which was bred by the Queen herself *nods*). I also think I'm sorta accepted even though I don't know much about horses. But the bad. Well, everyone went for a ride so I was told to go collect 3 horses from a field, given a description of one and told the male one was nervous but had a headcollar on all the time so would be easy to get. So set off up the village, turn down a road and then realise I'm being followed:O Shock horror the very old dog from the stables I stroked before setting off wanted more and was after me! So I took her back and sety off again to this field. I found it and it had 4 horses in it!! I went in and one horse that had been described to me I got straight away (Jasmine) and Rolley who I recognised from meetng her once before in the week. This left 2 dudes, neither with a headcollar, either of which could be Bruce, so I went for the one who looked most nervous. Sure enough he didn't let the headcollar near him but liked the corn I brought. I walked Jas and Rolley back to the gate and Bruce and the other one followed, I tied up the girls and returned to Bruce who was just behind. After 10 minutes of trying to get a headcollar on him and him having none of it I got pissed off and decided to take the other two back and then check which was Bruce and come back with more corn to gain his trust. Opened the gate and ther other horses wanted to follow so i had to throw the corn bucket back to distract them. Having got the girlsd out, I went to tie them to the gatepost while I went to retrieve the bucket. Tying a "quick-release knot" I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my arm and looked down to see a whole barb from the barbed wire in my arm! Ouch! I unthreaded myself, got the bucket and walked the ladies back. I heard then from Liz that Bruce should've had a collar and that i could leave him luckily.
Other bad things, didn't get signed off so I have to work at least one more day, probably the two. Looks liek I won't be getting that lie in I wanted. Been knackered recently. Can't stay asloeep; I think that it must be reading the The Da Vinci Code that keeps my mind wanting more. Speaking of books, saw trailer for The Witcher and parts of it makes a lot more sense and familiar after reading The Last Wish. Speaking of game trailers; the bosses in MGS4 look seriously scary, look forward to killing them in the very precise ways in which these bosses are defeated. Last bad thing, apparently place I'm going next week for horses may be crap, ah well.
More geeky post tomorrow.
