Soooo today was ROPSSAA for swimming...which is always fairly exciting. Sadly it involves getting up at 5:30 to be at school for 6:30, so we can be at Etobicoke for 8am warmups. But oh well.

Anyways, long story short, I had crappy prelims, and only qualified for finals for the 50m free (7th place). I ended up swimming a personal best in finals (33.15) and managed to place 5th, so yay for getting a ribbon. Then our relay, which was the last event, was also 5th (yay for not being last), and even though we didnt qualify for OFSAA it was still fun:)

Dinner was at an indian buffet, which was pretty good, if not too spicy for my liking. So overall, a good day:) Im happy with my result in the free, if not in the breaststroke, and hey, you cant have everything right?

1.) Thats a tough question, to be honest. I guess the fact that Im fortunate enough to be born and raised in Canada, and to have a roof, food, and most importantly a promising future. Nothing can be worse than having nothing to look forward too, or nothing to strive for in life.

2.) A bit. Lately ive become really thankful for the friends that I have. I may not be extremely close to a lot of them, but the ones that I am close too mean a lot to me.

3.) Yesterday? Uh...rice...with some chinese dish haha.

4.) Just the Christmas atmosphere in general. I dont care much for trivial things anymore, like gifts and such. Its just the whole holiday spirit thing that I love, where everyone is (generally) nicer and more caring, and im definitely looking forward to having snow and seeing everything all decked up in lights and such.

5.) Heh, the only thing I can really say is Christmas, and frankly I dont really care.

Mmmm...turkey....and frankly I cant answer that because I dont cook the turkey in my house:)

1.) Ummm, I would probably choose east or west. South would mean the states, and assuming that Im supposed to stay in Canada here, I would love to go east to live by the Atlantic for a while. Ive never been to the east coast before, but just the small town, friendly feeling i think would be amazing to experience. And out west, is Alberta and BC, two provinces which I absolutel adore.

2.) Not really. First of all, I cant drive lol, second of all, im not that big on driving for no reason at all.

3.) Thats a tough one. Probably starting one. Coming home is nice, but I get bored quickly.

4.) Plane. I loveeee flying. But on foot is nice too.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada:)

My thanksgiving weekend was pretty good. Friday afternoon Lisa and Lydia came over, and we just hung out, ate ice cream, and watched Scary Movie 4. Saturday, we went to Oakville, picked up my sister, and went shopping at Square one. My sister had booked the three of us for makeovers in Sephora, so that was super fun:) The artist i had was really nice, and she did a good job. We ended up spending a shitload of money haha, but its all good. After that we picked up Kat and went to Tracy's apartment to get her stuff and her cat Ozzie. Then we came home, and I made an awesome dinner of Potato topped chicken pot pies, with Pear gingerbread pudding for dessert. It was KICKASS. I had a really really bad nosebleeed that night though, to the point where it was LITERALLY blood pouring out of my nose like water. Then when I tried to apply pressure, the blood ended up going down my throat, which was soooo gross. My mom had to call the nurse hotline or whatever to get advice. Anyways, it stopped eventually, but I didnt get a very good sleep that night, since I was scared of it bleeding again. I mean, I get nosebleeds a lot, but never THAT bad.

Anyways, Sunday we went to the walkin clinic, just to make sure, and the doctor said it was fine. Then the rest of Sunday we spent getting stuff ready for our Turkey dinner, and that night Tracy's other two roomates Andy and Jerry came over too, along with a family friend. It was a really good dinner, if I do say so myself. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and two types of pies! Whoohoo!

Today, we went down to the Humber Valley Trail to see the leaves, and it was super pretty. We were gonna go apple picking after, but I have a cold so I wanted to come back. We ended up coming back for lunch, and then everyone else went apple picking while I stayed at home and played with Ozzie (who is the cutest cat everrrrrr). My sister and Kat just left for home about an hour ago, and I just made the most awesome triple chocolate chip cookies. So all in all, I had a pretty good wekend.

Hope everyone else had a good thanksgiving!

So picture this. 30 or so teenagers, soaking to the BONE, dripping wet, running down a busy street. What would be going through your head? Personally, I LOVE that image. I think it makes Humberview look good, and it tells people that not all teens are up to no good. Anyways, yes, today it POURED all practice. And of course, we ran outside, down in the ravine trail. So needless to say, we were all wet, and muddy, but it was fun. It doesnt happen to often, but when it does its always a thrill. We ran down king street to get to the ravine, and there was just this huge lineup of cars, and I can only imagine what the people inside were thinking to see this long line of wet and muddy kids go by. Anyways, thats my story of the day.

I had a math test today, and I THINK I did pretty well. There were some iffy questions that I really needed to stop and think about, but other then that it was good.

So its the fifth anniversary of what will perhaps be the greatest tragedy to occur in the 21st century. How does one describe their feelings for an event that destroyed the lives of three thousand innocent people? An event that was planned, and executed by OTHER human beings? I don't think it will ever be possible to truly express the myriad of feelings we have for this event. Yes, it was five years ago. But to those who were family and friends of the victims, five years ago means nothing. It is a number, a passing of time. Perhaps the pain may have eased, and the anger may be less, but that cannot change the fact that their loved ones are gone. I cannot imagine the feeling, of waiting, and praying, and hoping, hoping against all odds that YOUR loved one made it out alive. I think the hardest thing to accept about 9/11 is the fact that it was caused by humans. Humans who have emotions, and feelings, and family, just like we do. How does a person turn from an innocent child, into someone capable of destroying other people's lives? Someone who can look death in the eye, and be satisfied with what they are doing?

Humans are unique, in the way that we can experience emotion, and guilt, and other feelings. We are intelligent beyond belief, but at the same time, that does not make us better. Would an animal go out, and kill others for no real reason at all? Humans are funny in that way. We create, and we destroy. We attempt to protect, when our efforts make no real difference. We work against mother nature, despite the fact that if left alone, nature is perfectly capable of caring for itself. Humans cannot be satisfied with simply living. We need to know, we need to discover, write, calculate, question, have faith in an otherwordly figure, yet when it all comes down to it, we are no better then that bird in the air. We are no more happier, or satisfied with life, simply because we have knowledge, and power. One things humans cannot, and most likely will never be able to experience, is true freedom. We are bound by laws, by symbols written on paper. We are bound by imaginary lines on the ground, and in the air. Does that eagle flying over us see these lines? Is it confined to a certain space, unable to leave without permission? No.

9/11 has shown the world what the human brain is capable of. It has shown us how humans use our knowledge to exact revenge, and pain against others. Life is a gift, something that we will only ever have once, and once it is taken away, no amount of technology, or prayers, will bring it back. The images of fire and destruction on September 11th, 2001, will never cease to amaze me. Each time I am awestruck, in both horror and fascination.

To the thousands who died five years ago today, I say this. You will never, ever, be forgotten by the world. This event has become engrained into our society, whether in anger or sorrow, it will always be a demonstration of the powers of the human mind.

Sooo today was my third day of school. Nothing too interesting so far. I can already tell thats its going to be a hard semester lol. Math hmwk every day, along with physics and chem. Im really enjoying design tech so far though, since we have no deadlines, and its a fun class overall. Lots of hands on stuff, rather then listening to lecture after lecture.

We had our first cross country practice today, and it was pretty fun. Short run, then games, and other stuff. Its going to be a good year I think.

Anyways, tomorrow Patty is throwing a THANK GOD TAVIS IS GONE party. Of course, Tavis will be there =) Then Candace is coming over for the weekend, and Saturday is Rachel's surprised birthday party. Soooo hopefully ill have time in there to do hmwk.

Bah, Im tired already.

5) The first weekend in September signals the end of summer for many even though it doesn’t really end for weeks. When does summer end for you?

1.) By the 30th...well, hopefully by then i'll be all settled and organized in terms of school, and hopefully ill be keeping all of the goals i made for myself for this school year.

2.) September makes me feel happy, and content, and cozy. I love autumn, and all the beautiful scenery makes me feel lucky to be able to experience it. Running through the forest in the morning for x-c is one of the best things about September. The cool air, dewy leaves and grass, and the myriad of colours are just an overwhelming feeling. September also means sweaters, and jeans, and blazers, and since im a shopping junkie, Autumn = <3.

Anyways, I have just spent the day cleaning out my room, and I pulled out tons and tons of stuff that I thought had dissapeared or I had lost. I took out all 45 of my beanie babies, and lined them up neatly, like I used to do when I was 8. It brings back many, many memories of when I was a kid. Makes me wish I was little again, but at the same time, I like where I am. Does anyone else ever feel that way? Kind of suspended between different points in your life.

Mmm its good to be back in Canada. Two weeks in China is fun, but man its good to be home. We spent our first week in the southern area of China travelling, in the province of Yunnan, which borders with Thailand I think. It was really cool because although most people still speak Mandarin, a lot of the people also speak a different language, which I guess comes from being so close to Thailand. The climate was really neat too, all rainforests and lush plants and tons and tons of fruits. Mmmmmm pineapples. One chinese yen for the best pineapple EVER is a pretty sweet deal. In total, we were in 4 different cities. We started off by flying to Kumin on the 1st, spent the day in Kumin, then flew to Xishuangbanna that night. The next two days/nights were spent in Xishuangbanna, before we flew to Lijiang. We spent one day and one night in Lijiang, then drove to Dali the next morning. Spent the day in Dali, then took an overnight train back to Kumin where we spent our last day, before flying back to Beijing. So in total these past two weeks, ive been on 6 different flights, including the ones to and from China. I saw a lot of cool stuff during the week. In Xishuangbanna, we went to a wild elephant parks, and although we didnt get to see any wild elephants, it was still pretty awesome. We also went to a water splashing "show" if you can call it that, which demonstrates what their annual water festival is like. In Lijiang, we went shopping in the "old city" area, which was just amazing. Its all cobblestone alleys and small streets, and its just so beautiful at night, with all the crowds and the atmosphere. We went to a lot of Buddha temples which was cool, and we also saw a lot of different ethnic groups, since there are so many in Yunnan. We got to go to the home of a Dai family, in their village and see how they live their life. Overall, a pretty neat experience:)

The rest of our trip was just spent in Beijing, shopping, going to museums with my cousin, and spending time with my grandparents.

Anyways, im glad to be home:P As nice as China is, theres a certain appeal to toilet paper, clean washrooms, salad, and less cars on the road.

You Bet Your Ass!

So yesterday a bunch of us all went downtown to watch Nikkis brother Chris participate in the comedy network show, You Bet Your Ass! It should be airing in September, so who knows, maybe youll see me on TV =D It was really really cool! We watched two episodes get filmed, and it was neat seeing how everything works. The audience guy who made sure we clapped at the right times and stuff was absolutely hilarious, and there were a bunch of 20 something year old guys behind us who were also really funny (and cute haha). Anyways, Chris was leading for almost the whole game, but lost at the very end cause he got some insanely hard question. Bah.

Afterwards we wandered around downtown and went to Kensington before we got picked up by Ariels dad.

I leave tomorrow for China, so ill be back with an update in two weeks.

Im sitting in Ariels living room, with the radio on in the background (but other then that silence), looking out her window at a misty ravine. I feel very content and peaceful =).

The last few days have been fairly busy. On Tuesday Lydia and I went downtown, and wandered around Kensington, Bloor, and the Eatons centre. It was pretty fun, even though I didnt buy anything (for lack of money). Later on in the evening I had a workout with Mrs LD which was really pretty awesome. Barson, Mel, Emily, and Keith all showed up and we did a short run, and played games and stuff. The only thing that sucks is that my hip really hurts now, due to a nagging injury that I had during track season.

Yesterday Candace came over, and we hung out for the day. She helped me mow the lawn =D After that I had piano lessons, and in the evening I was at Jessica's for a bonfire, although we ended up abandoning the fire cause it started to rain. I had a lot of fun, except I burned my fingers when I tried to touch a stick that looked like it was going to fall out of the fire, so my finger hurt all night.

Today a bunch of us are going downtown, which should be neat. We're going to the CBC station for some game show that Nikki's brother got onto. Hopefully there isnt an age limit, and if there is we can still have fun downtown.

Okay, crisis here. We leave for China on Saturday. Now, obviously we need to bring a camera. BUT the problem is im PRETTY sure i left our recharger at Candaces cottage. We have a very old 3.2 Sony Cyber shot that ONLY takes a lithium battery. Candace unfortunately is at home right now and wont be leaving for the cottage till Friday. So not enough time to get it back. Rechargers are 40 bucks, but im pretty sure my mom will yell at me if i tell her we need to buy one.

DOes ANYONE have ANY suggestions for what I can do?
