Picky little question for you guys... [01 Sep 2008|05:32pm]

So, there's a ton of flack over the church in California encouraging the members to vote against gays being allowed to marry. Not what I'm asking about, and I would appreciate it if this post didn't devolve into beating that dead horse into the mud until it rots and then poking it with a stick political debate.

So, that clarified, what is the church's position on accepting marriages that are legal and lawful and binding in a given state (for example, gay marriage is legal in Canada and the Netherlands as well as a bunch of other places, polygamy is allowed in the Sudan and South Africa, etc) but are not considered to be within the bounds of marriage in our church?

If someone who was in one of those marriages, same sex or polygamous, and they wanted to join the church- would they be required to divorce? To abstain from sexual contact with their legit husband or wife(ves)?

I'm really not trying to pin the church into a corner or anything or say that one position is right and one is wrong, just curious about how the church handles that situation... I mean polygamy is very common in South Africa, where the church has enough presence to have a temple in Johannesburg, and there are 100,000+ members in Canada.

IS SARAH PALIN A MORMON?! D: D: )

One word: lolwut?

Edit: Actually, what weirds me out even more is why having a child with Down's Syndrome in any way "disturbing" or, hell, related to this in any way. What, are only cultists allowed to have mentally-challenged kids? :P

I am getting myself into some pretty cah-razy predicaments haha. I mean its all good and what not, I just have to keep it flowin and not let shit get out of hand. As long as im in control, alls well that ends well. As Buddy Aces would say, "I have the power to change reality, I can make you see what I want and make it as real as I want."

HE IS MY FUCKING HERO!

Excerpt From A GTalk With A Soon To Be Missionary. [24 Aug 2008|11:49pm]

[gottheconch]
Posting something a bit different that the norm morm. Hope you don't mind.

Tom 11:35 so tell me about your mission and all that?

Zed 11:36 i served on the rez for a few months, few more in new mexico and then some in colorado. got sick about 15 months out. went home early

Tom 11:38 oh wow! and what years were you out?

Zed 11:39 2001ish. bit of a blur now

Tom 11:40 hmmm. so what's been the story since then, if you don't mind my prodding?

Zed 11:43 i established a site called misfit mormon ( http://community.livejournal.com/misfitmormon/ ) and attempted to reconnect with the people in the faith (if you query misfit mormon on city weekly, i am on a feature article). later, i ran out of energy and was too impatient to sit around and hear the same speech again and again that i had heard since i was a kid. so i left. its not that i don't believe a lot of the values - i just got sick of dealing with the culture.
my wife tells me bicycling is my new religion.

we were married in the temple, but i have never been big into going there either.
guess the culture just rubs me wrong.

Tom 11:43 it does, yes yes me too, i mean very interesting to hear thank you

Zed 11:44 but yeah..
my brother, who has nothing to do with the LDS Church anymore, and served a mission offered this advice, and I offer it to you:
serve the mission
because though i may not be into it much now - being a missionary made me into more of a man than anything else.
it defined who i am.

-end.
