Because Hieroglyphics are Cool
I always wanted to know about hieroglyphics (and yes I am a Stargate fan), and was poking around on the net. They are pretty interesting: a strange mishmash of alphabet and logograms with no vowels. If you are royalty you get a fancy cartouche. 

I tried to write out my name. It's probably completely off-base, but it was fun:

Yes ,They are. I learned about them at camp a few yrs back.

It really wasn't all that great, Just a school sponsored program at the community center. But it was an okay perk that they taught us that.
