Aside from waiting for Romo Lampkin to randomly pull out a bowler hat and drop into a Cockney accent (yes that's a shoutout to you, Browncoats), I really got into this episode and the character.
I mean, we know from the start this guy is One Cool Pimp because he never takes off his sunglasses and carries a cat in his briefcase.
Totally fake-sounding name though. And I keep wanting to call him Rollo (from "Rollo Tomasi" in LA Confidential).
And the kleptomania - got to love the kleptomania.
The
Yeah, you could say I like Romo Lampkin.
(Although I felt like I was having a stroke sometimes when Romo talked: was it just me or was he really confusing to understand? I understood the words he was saying, but somehow the sentences just made no sense to me.)
But onto the plot...
It might be getting old by now, but I'm fond of Lee and his Neverending Search for a Mentor. That's why I think Zarek has been shamelessly underused lately: he and Lee had such a great dynamic. I think Apollo never got to go through the 'rebellious teenager' period or something, and he's been making up for it since the miniseries.
But it works because (IMHO) it makes for a good coming-of-age story. Lee has always been the most open-minded, the most 'fair', the most idealistic. And that's not an easy path to walk. So every time events take a swipe at Lee and his morality, it's like a game: how long til he throws in the towel? Will Lee stay innocent, or become tainted by the reality of the world?
Good heart-to-heart stuff with Romo/Lee. I liked Jamie's performance while telling the story of his grandpa ('be a good boy, just don't be too too good'). And despite the confusing Romo-speak, I think I got their deep conversation about the the strangeness that is human behavior. I can see how Romo's suggestion of lawyerin' as a means of studying the human condition (flaws and all) would appeal to Lee.
And Everything Else...
- Kara's card rocked.
- I think Papadma is starting to crack under the deaths of all his children.
- Liked the Adama/Lee emo-fest over Kara. It reminded me of when Hamlet flipped out on Laertes over who loved Ophelia more.
- I hate Cally again. Now I think they are intentionally making her annoying. Her whole two-cents during the deck meeting ("the cylons are turning us against each other - they're here now! blah, blah").
