BSG - 3.06 (07) - A Measure of Salvation
A Measure of Salvation

Thank the Gods my BSG is Back
Finally, my beloved BSG with it's twisted beauty and braintwisting genius is back. I was seriously afraid it snuffed it over the summer and that Occupation/Precipice was a death twitch. These last few weeks have been BSG-light IMHO, with only hints and brief scenes of real ideas and passions.
Baltar + Dentist.Chair.of.Doom = OTP
Tonight was great: namely that sick extended Baltar-torture-and-sex scene. It was just a crazy jumble of opposites: pleasure and pain, despair and love, mental alacrity and naked emotion. If only the rest of the Basestar arc (and it better be just an arc) could be this great. Definately one of the greatest Baltar scenes ever. Baltar's beauty as a character is that he's such a paradox: I can't tell if he's motivated by deep compassion or narcissistic survival - and this seemed like a more...concrete...extension of that.
While he's tortured: it's such a crazy mix of physical pain and physical pleasure, esp in the final moments when his screams were a blend of sexual bliss and agonizing pain - it was scary and twisted and (I confess) sexy all at once. It's so amazing how raw emotions of extremes can be so similar.
Also great was the mind/body separation. And Baltar's way of coping (via the advice of Head!Six) and using his brains to outwit D'anna. But that's what has me continually scratching my head with Gaius this season: I can't tell if he's broken and submissive, or so infused with will that he'll fight with any weapon he's got (at this point - his smarts).
D'anna....pisses me off
I love Lucy Lawless but...I'm really not a D'anna fan. I dunno, I just don't like her - even as a villain. She just pisses me off in general...I hate that she's all internally conflicted and confused, but goes around acting all know-it-all and badass. I don't care about her issues. I just want to smack her. Or jab that ear-buzzer thing down her throat.
And she just gets in the way of the Gaius/Caprica!Six storyline. After 'Downloaded' I was dying for a reuinion between Caprica and Gaius. And we've never got to see them really open up. I think the most personal we've seen them is that one scene on New Caprica when they were both laying miserable in bed like they were attempting a poor man's recreation of a scene in The Graduate. Actually, no. The most 'deep' they've been is in the season two finale when they suspiciously eyed one another right before the surrender. I want D'anna to go away. I want her to leave Baltar alone so he and Six can make up, or not make up - whatever, just make her go away. Caprica's suffering at seeing Gaius tortured and his mad-eyed 'I love you' were ten times better than any of D'anna's lines tonight.
And so does Simon...
...only because ratted Baltar out. Great. Now how is Dr. Crazy going to come back to the fleet? Disco Basestar is fun, but if we have to watch Baltar aimlessly roam the halls with piano musak, cut off from fellow humans, and be a Cylon doormat (and gods know what else) for the remainder of the show....it will pretty much suck. Nevermind the fact that the lighting is giving me headaches.
Maybe if at a later point they torture him good and proper before returning him to the colonials he can convince them the info was forced out of him....that's pretty much his last shot at this point, methinks. Keeping fingers crossed for more D'anna torture sessions - preferably with sharper objects or big blunt ones.
Helo and Sharon
...are so cute. I loved what she said about Hera saving her: that she died but she kept Helo and her together. And Helo was great tonight. I loved when he did what he thought was right, and that if it was a mistake, well, he'd just have to live with it. Aside from who was right or wrong about the geonicide: Helo made the choice for the right reason IMHO. At least, on a personal level. The 'what will allow me to sleep at night' meter is a good one, I say. So: yay Helo!
Papadama...
...is so awesome. Whenever he said he wouldn't open an investigation and Roslin made a snarky comment....he didn't reply. That is just how cool Adama is. He doesn't need to offer an explanation. He doesn't even need to say that he doesn't need to offer an explanaition.
Where is Tigh?!
I hope he hasn't eaten his sidearm, and has simply drunken himself into a miserable stupor in his quarters.
