Gonzo movie
I saw on the internet a while back that Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson was going to be playing in Scottsdale on the 22nd, but now I can't find it anywhere! Much less tickets!

This was going to be a pretty special weekend, I'll be disappointed as all hell if I can't find it. Anybody know?? See how concerned I am by my many question marks?????? No, really. ;(

Instead of watching women's gymnastics for two days I should have waited for the velodrome events. Now I don't have time to watch hour after hour of track cycling.

There's four velodromes in California and one in Houston.

Juice-makers and meat-grinders
I'm actually close to giving up now. Is there a store anywhere in the valley that has a substantial selection of subj? The most I can find is one crappy model per store.

Give me one good reason that i shouldn't leave SF for Houston
I have pretty identical job opportunities in SF and in Houston. I've been in the SF Bay Area for the last 9 years. Any reason I shouldn't leave the state and live in another part of the country?

Jinxes!

You guys are total jinxes.

I have never in my life seen one of those bug things (Box Elder Bugs) you were all talking about yesterday.  Not once.  Lived here for 16 years.

There were two in my condo today.  One of them was JUST crawling on my keyboard.

JINXES!

new pointe shoes

As a precursor, I haven't been en pointe for almost 6 years, so naturally i have some issues...these are also brand new shoes so they're not broken in yet. hopefully with some more work i'll be less wobbly/stiff and my arch will improve. i just wanted to track my own progress over the next few months but if anyone out there is a ballet dancer or instructor please feel free to critique! :)

where to find a decent waxer
Hiiiiii, looked in the memories and found a bit on eyebrow waxers posted in '05, but that doesn't quite answer my question.

Ladies (, I assume, mostly)-- Any tips on a good salon to get a Brazilian bikini wax? )

The Octopus Project: theremin thrash
The Octopus Project
theremin thrash

I'm never sorry when I take a chance on going to the Bottom of the Hill on spec. The sound is so good, unlike certain other small SF venues (Slim's, I am looking at you) that even just decent bands make a good impression.

On Saturday I didn't have to settle for a just decent band -- The Octopus Project was dynamite. I should have become a musch bigger fan much sooner, but the little ripple of hype with the release of Hello Avalanche last year mostly passed me by. Well, having seen them live, I'm a confirmed fan now.

Source: my awesome blog, Distingué Traces, which has lots more pictures - so many pictures, in fact, that I am realizing I need to start using some kind of gallery widget. What should I use?

bugs
All of a sudden my workplace (Tempe) is infested with these little black bugs. They're thin but oval-shaped, probably about as long as a pinky fingernail and have a thin red line on the sides of their bodies. My boss said they are all over the outside of his house, too. Anyone know what the hell they are? They're everywhere and it's driving us crazy.

Edit: Box Elder bugs... thanks guys.

MUNI complaints
Do they even read those things? I'm assuming they don't. With some hope and a lot of crankiness I sent them a complaint via their website about the stupid proof of payment checks they have 2 and 3 officers do. They don't do them between stops where people jump on and off without paying all day long -- they seem to love to go through stations where you had to run your pass through the turnstyle or show it to the agent in the booth. My favorite is where they cite or nearly cite someone with a transfer that's "about to expire" in a minute. Why on earth does that matter. They got on before that time so who cares? And if they need to be out of the system before the expiration time, that's not their fault if the train is sitting in the station for 2 and 3 minutes without opening the doors. I've been here just short of a year and it didn't take me long to dislike MUNI. Now I just completely hate it.

/end rant.

lectures
random question:

I know that colleges have lists of their lectures, and museums do too, but does anyone know of a website that has like a calander of lectures going on in the city, from a large # of venues?

Has anyone had success with finding lectures on going.com?

i miss having my daily college email with its random lectures that were coming up in the week.

Dentist recommendation.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a dentist in the potrero/mission area ?

Someone gentle and who understands dentist phobia would be ideal. Also if it's possible to get an appointment fairly soon, it would be best, as my gum is bothering me and I need to have it checked. Thank you.
