"Man", by Koi Bashi [14 Oct 2008|12:09am]

heaven longing ape
angel who stumbles
blind light bearer
who falls and fumbles
worshiper of error
seeker after truth
hurting and aging
lover of lovely youth
wild beast raging
craven and brave
freak of fashion

puppet of passion
lowest and loftiest
a sideshow gape
god's fool, nature's jest

A Map of the World [14 Oct 2008|04:23pm]

greatpoets

[falmalinnar]
One of the ancient maps of the world
is heart-shaped, carefully drawn
and once washed with bright colors,
though the colors have faded
as you might expect feelings to fade
from a fragile old heart, the brown map
of a life. But feeling is indelible,
and longing infinite, a starburst compass
pointing in all the directions
two lovers might go, a fresh breeze
swelling their sails, the future uncharted,
still far from the edge
where the sea pours into the stars.

--Ted Kooser

Also, a possibly odd request: I was poking through my Stickies earlier and I came across this odd fragment which I suspect is from a poem, but I have not been able to identify its source, and it's driving me crazy.

"we are not fallen yet
but neither are we angels--

--we are dust and scars and dreaming"

Any pointers?

random Taipei Con tidbits [14 Oct 2008|02:07pm]

jun_daily

[dream_raine]
Hilooo, just thought I will share some random shots from the Taipei con. Jun-kun looked great! He had Momo-like hair and so he was being his cute self. And he spoke Chinese saying, "我爱你們!" (I love all of you). And had a slight glitch with the cable during Yabai solo, the second day con. It was an OMG moment.....but he really recovered from his own shock fast and continued doing those dangling stunts. *sigh* I hope Jun does a more normal, less dangerous solo for the next con....

Gluten-free pizza! [13 Oct 2008|09:35pm]

celiac

[zophine]
Garlic Jim's has a gluten-free option for crusts and marks the menu very clearly on which items do and do not contain gluten. There are franchises open in quite a few states with more following across the country. Thought I'd throw this out there for ya!

Want || George Gunn [13 Oct 2008|08:22pm]

greatpoets

[weatherterms]
What I want from you is the long open road
and the dying swan of freedom

No small hour talk that I'll forget
In the late morning when work begins.

What I want from you is the colour
of the sky in late July

when Summer yawns and is tired
and the nights warm with hope.

What I want from you is to be bright
In the sad black days of no Sun

What I want from you is not much
What I want from you is the secret smile

reserved for lovers when the world
   shivers under its power.

Mayo Clinic [13 Oct 2008|06:12pm]

celiac

[rebasayre]
My GI has just recommended that I go to the Mayo Clinic.  I'm in Ohio.  Does anyone else have experience with this, how the process works, etc?  I'll take anything I can get in terms of help.  Thank you!

**edit**i'm not looking for financial help.  just more along the lines of how to work the system, making sure i do what needs to be done before i go, etc.

i am being sent b/c i am still vomitting and having diarrhea after seven months of gluten free diet and my villi aren't growing back despite the diet.  we have explored EVERYTHING, which has led to this recommendation.

Hello! It's my first post here but I'm really quite addicted. Shopping and talking about shopping are two of my favourite things. I keep making posts on my LJ about it but I don't think the rest of my flist is that interested. :)

Anyone familiar with Kernel Panics? [13 Oct 2008|03:04pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

I have an iMac G5 PowerPC and it suddenly started acting all freaky on me!
[Incidentally, right after downloading the latest Leopard update. Hmmmm.]

It wouldn't start-up and kept giving me the dark grey screen o' death -telling me I needed to restart it. So I eventually re-installed Leopard but now, my system profiler says I only have 512MB of SDRAM!?! I should have a full gig but the other 512MB has somehow mysteriously vanished.

It says this, exactly...

DIMM0/J4000:

Size: Empty
Type: Empty
Speed: Empty
Status: Empty

WTF!?!?!?

And if anyone can help me with this, your assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Boot Cache [13 Oct 2008|12:14pm]

applecomputer

[kalaryn]
I get this message when I'm shutting down my computer:

Updating Boot Caches, caches necessary for booting are being updated. System will shut down will proceed once the caches are up to date.

I click okay and so far the longest I've waited is half an hour and it never shuts down so I end up pulling the battery to get my computer back up and running.

Can anyone help me with how to fix this; I've tried googling the problem but everything that comes up is stuff for the browser and clearing the history.

Thanks in advance.

Cutest thing ever. Boy had a bag of gummy krabby patties, like this!

I reached over for one (I'd checked the ingredients prior) and he slapped my hand and was like NO! I thought maybe he looked and they'd changed the recipe or something, so I just kinda sat and sulked. Only to have him present me with one with the buns removed.

"Gluten free krabby patty!"

Awww!

Corn Bread [13 Oct 2008|11:12am]

celiac

[achanchinou]
So last night, I made cornbread. I got a craving, I caved, i baked. I decided to try some experimentation with my recipes, though, and do something with the crumbly texture, so I put in 1/4 teaspoon of xanthan gum (with 1/4 a cup of flour mix, and 1 cup of corn meal) the texture was a little more cakey that I wanted, but it was pretty close to spot on. The only problem - a very acrid bitter aftertaste in PART of the loaf.

Now, I've had trouble before with my flour mixes not mixing up properly with my baking powder and baking soda, and getting that bitter taste because of that. Usually what I do is sift together all of my flours with the baking soda and powder to make CERTAIN it mixes in properly, because I find that in the very fine rice flour I use, sometimes it just doesn't mix well if you don't, and you wind up biting into clumps of baking soda or baking powder in the baked product.

That said, this was a very bitter taste I don't really recall having before, so I'm wondering...

Is my xanthan gum bad? I've not really used it much, all my baking expertise is without it, and easily crumbled. So, this container that I've had for quite some time (2 years, ish?) is it bad, or is that just how xanthan gum tastes? If that's how it tastes, obviously it was in part due to my using too much (which I've already admitted was true, with the overly cakey-texture, probably needed an 1/8 teaspoon instead of 1/4).

So.. yeah, xanthan gum. Discuss, please!

I Need You (to Read Me Poetry) [13 Oct 2008|06:36am]

greatpoets

[grammarfight]
Hi, friends.

I'm hoping this will prompt any who wanted to but didn't get around to it—I want your voices reading your poems. I'm collecting YOU, reading your favorite poems or singing your favorite songs aloud, to play on my public radio show. If you would like to offer one up, please record yourself reading it—voice post, mp3, whatever—and let me know you've done so, or send it along to anthologist@ksfr.org.

Plain voiced, twangy, heavily accented. I want it all. And I'll post a copy of the final show here when it's done.

Please read your poems to me.
