i think i'm going to start using this thing again.  good for me to look back on if nothing else.

christmas through new years has been a complete and total shitfest.  celebrated my first Hanukkah, got rats, went home, saw friends, came back, hung out, went to chuck e. cheese, stayed out til 5:45 on new years, danced on a bar.  i'm tired.

i am SO excited for this to finally come out!!  i can't help but wonder if anyone would have given a shit if heath ledger hadn't died while making it.  poor terry gilliam always seems to get the short end of the stick, and that's terrible.  he's a PHENOMENAL director.

comment if you want to do this and i'll pick five interests of yours!!

 from thelastpauline :
Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

always wearing dresses : i haven't worn a pair of pants in probably two years now.  why?  i don't know.  i have a lot of dresses and i've always preferred to be in them, and it kind of turned into this.  the longer it went, the longer i wanted to see how far i could take it.  i'm always the most over-dressed person in the room and i don't mind it.  a big part of me wishes for days past when people looked this way all the time - hats, gloves, nylons, dress clothes - even at just the grocery store.

american sign language
:  currently i'm in school (yay second degree!) for sign language interpretation.  i've always loved sign language and i adore learning it - not only learning the vocabulary but realizing how much of the language is just describing things so intricately with your hands and not having a set "word" or sign for them - it's all fascinating.  deaf culture is interesting and trying to squeeze myself into the deaf community has proven a bit embarrassing and exciting all at once.  plus, talking to erin at the bar in sign language and nobody understanding us was fun.

dead man's bones
: this is the name of ryan gosling's band, which i am apparently obsessed with recently.  the band is composed of ryan gosling and zach shields.  the two of them taught themselves how to play every instrument on their record and ryan gosling has an incredible voice.  they are backed by an entire children's choir in their songs, and every subject matter is about something "spooky" - zombies, ghosts, haunted things, etc.   seriously, give them a listen.  they're great.

post-apocalyptic societies
since i was young, i've always been a fan of horror and sci-fi movies.  as an adult, it's a ridiculous and deeply engrossing hobby - i know more about horror movies than any girl (or dude!) i've met.  post-apocalyptic socieities in specific have always interested me.  whether it's a big hollywood end-of-the-world blockbuster or a small, well-written short story on the subject, i like it. the idea can be taken in a million directions and the simple vision of big cities turned into barren waste-lands distructed, looted, beat-up buildings is always exciting to me.

pterodactyls
i've always loved dinosaurs.  when i was a kid i apparently would ask my mom to quiz me about dinosaurs and she said it was amazing to hear such a little kid accuaretly rattle off the long scientific names.   as long as i've liked dinosaurs, the pterodactyl has ALWAYS been my favourite.  as most kids are, i was also obsessed with the idea of flying, so maybe that was a part of it.  any type of pterosaur has interested me - the pteranodon, which is the biggest pterosaur, had a wing span up to 30 feet!  the idea of something like that flying in the sky is amazing.  also, fun fact : in jurassic park three, they encounter pteranodons, not pterodactyls.

quoting jurassic park daily
this kind of ties into my fact above me - i fucking love dinosaurs.  always have.  jurassic park has been my favourite movie since it came out, and it probably always will.  people seem to find this rather hilarious for some reason.  i have also had a weird crush on jeff goldblum since i was in third grade (seriously, i still have a letter i wrote him in 93 or 94 that i never sent) and his performance in this movie is particularly endearing.  back to my point - for many years i liked to try and work a jurassic park quote into daily conversation.  sometimes they were subtle and nobody knew what i was talking about, other times it was a fairly obvious one (hold on to your butts).

whistling in stairwells!
this is funny and really old, probably dating back to when i lived in the dorms.  for some reason i discovered one day that i enjoyed whistling every time i was in the stairwell because it gave a pretty echo, and it ended up in my livejournal interests, probably as some zany quirk about myself i found cute at the time.  who knows.

why i have i never seen this before?  i've obviously always loved david bowie, but i forgot how much i used to be obsessed with annie lennox when i was little.  what a weird, amazing woman.

these are my parents!  if you've never met them, you're missing out.  my mom is the nicest, kindest, most amazing woman on the entire planet.  my dad is hilarious and sassy.  they are total bikers, although i don't think you could tell from appearance. recently they just took their bikes to california and back and one of the days they rode for 13 hours straight.  they've been married for 29 years.  i love the shit out of them.

this photo was in Glamour magazine and it apparently started a lot of controversy.  It made me really excited, though - how nice is it to see a real body with a stomach that isn't flat when you hunch over?  and - shocker - she's still gorgeous.  it really is refreshing and exciting to see some real figures popping up every now and then, i hope it continues.
