i am SO excited for this to finally come out!!  i can't help but wonder if anyone would have given a shit if heath ledger hadn't died while making it.  poor terry gilliam always seems to get the short end of the stick, and that's terrible.  he's a PHENOMENAL director.

comment if you want to do this and i'll pick five interests of yours!!

 from [info]thelastpaulineĀ :
Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

always wearing dresses : i haven't worn a pair of pants in probably two years now.  why?  i don't know.  i have a lot of dresses and i've always preferred to be in them, and it kind of turned into this.  the longer it went, the longer i wanted to see how far i could take it.  i'm always the most over-dressed person in the room and i don't mind it.  a big part of me wishes for days past when people looked this way all the time - hats, gloves, nylons, dress clothes - even at just the grocery store.

american sign language
:  currently i'm in school (yay second degree!) for sign language interpretation.  i've always loved sign language and i adore learning it - not only learning the vocabulary but realizing how much of the language is just describing things so intricately with your hands and not having a set "word" or sign for them - it's all fascinating.  deaf culture is interesting and trying to squeeze myself into the deaf community has proven a bit embarrassing and exciting all at once.  plus, talking to erin at the bar in sign language and nobody understanding us was fun.

dead man's bones
: this is the name of ryan gosling's band, which i am apparently obsessed with recently.  the band is composed of ryan gosling and zach shields.  the two of them taught themselves how to play every instrument on their record and ryan gosling has an incredible voice.  they are backed by an entire children's choir in their songs, and every subject matter is about something "spooky" - zombies, ghosts, haunted things, etc.   seriously, give them a listen.  they're great.

post-apocalyptic societies
since i was young, i've always been a fan of horror and sci-fi movies.  as an adult, it's a ridiculous and deeply engrossing hobby - i know more about horror movies than any girl (or dude!) i've met.  post-apocalyptic socieities in specific have always interested me.  whether it's a big hollywood end-of-the-world blockbuster or a small, well-written short story on the subject, i like it. the idea can be taken in a million directions and the simple vision of big cities turned into barren waste-lands distructed, looted, beat-up buildings is always exciting to me.

pterodactyls
i've always loved dinosaurs.  when i was a kid i apparently would ask my mom to quiz me about dinosaurs and she said it was amazing to hear such a little kid accuaretly rattle off the long scientific names.   as long as i've liked dinosaurs, the pterodactyl has ALWAYS been my favourite.  as most kids are, i was also obsessed with the idea of flying, so maybe that was a part of it.  any type of pterosaur has interested me - the pteranodon, which is the biggest pterosaur, had a wing span up to 30 feet!  the idea of something like that flying in the sky is amazing.  also, fun fact : in jurassic park three, they encounter pteranodons, not pterodactyls.

quoting jurassic park daily
this kind of ties into my fact above me - i fucking love dinosaurs.  always have.  jurassic park has been my favourite movie since it came out, and it probably always will.  people seem to find this rather hilarious for some reason.  i have also had a weird crush on jeff goldblum since i was in third grade (seriously, i still have a letter i wrote him in 93 or 94 that i never sent) and his performance in this movie is particularly endearing.  back to my point - for many years i liked to try and work a jurassic park quote into daily conversation.  sometimes they were subtle and nobody knew what i was talking about, other times it was a fairly obvious one (hold on to your butts).

whistling in stairwells!
this is funny and really old, probably dating back to when i lived in the dorms.  for some reason i discovered one day that i enjoyed whistling every time i was in the stairwell because it gave a pretty echo, and it ended up in my livejournal interests, probably as some zany quirk about myself i found cute at the time.  who knows.

these are my parents!  if you've never met them, you're missing out.  my mom is the nicest, kindest, most amazing woman on the entire planet.  my dad is hilarious and sassy.  they are total bikers, although i don't think you could tell from appearance. recently they just took their bikes to california and back and one of the days they rode for 13 hours straight.  they've been married for 29 years.  i love the shit out of them.

this photo was in Glamour magazine and it apparently started a lot of controversy.  It made me really excited, though - how nice is it to see a real body with a stomach that isn't flat when you hunch over?  and - shocker - she's still gorgeous.  it really is refreshing and exciting to see some real figures popping up every now and then, i hope it continues.

things are good )

also, i finally sange kareoke for my first time on thursday night.  it was to meatloaf, and it was awesome.  i sang "i would do anything for love" because my best lady wanted to sing the girl's part with me, but next time i am for sure going to do "paradise by the dashboard light" (if i can find a place that doesn't play the 15-minute long version, haha).

what are your kareoke jams?

i'm attempting to try and update my life on this thing again.  it's a nice reminder that i have good friends and fun times and i can look back on all of it easily.

i can't believe how quickly this month went by!!  this whole summer, in fact.  i've been working like crazy but it doesn't really bother me considering we've had maybe three nice days of summery weather here in milwaukee.

anyway, the 4th of july was my two year anniversary with my boyfriend, but he worked a double that day so i spent our anniversary with my friends at an awesome shitty carnival.

so my night has taken me on some weird path that involved looking at pictures of ryan gosling (for way too long to admit to without being terribly embarrassed) and getting that stupid heart-in-the-throat-holy-shit-what-a-babe feeling that a stupid celebrity hasn't given me since i discovered the backstreet boys in 6th grade (let's pretend that never happened). i am currently convinced that him and i could totally be friends - he cuts up his food and likes the same amount of everything in one bite AND he likes ghosts and monsters and haunted things! i'm also pretty sure if we ever met we'd be all madly in love and shit. sorry, daniel. you know i love you, too!

BUT, aside from my mushy 13-year-old-girl-tendencies, i stumbled across his current music project. he and a buddy started a band called Dead Man's Bones, where they learned to play all the instruments pretty much on-spot and while recording their CD decided that they would never do more than three takes at a time. the best part? they have an entire children's choir with them in every song. it's kind of spooky and old-timey and a little bit arcade-fire all at once. i'm pumped to hear more than just the two things the have up on their myspace.

so really - go check it out. both songs, too, although i think i am more partial to "name in stone." i'm pretty into it. they have videos too, which are pretty neat.

I haven't used this thing in kind of a long time, so here's me playing catch-up with all you fine internet friends.

I am currently on the tail end of my week and a half of summer break that I got this year.  For those of you that don't know, I'm going back to school to get a second degree in sign language interpretation.  Last semester I recieved two A's and a B, so i'm pumped about that.  I'm kind of investigating doing interpreting for musical theater, which I think would be incredible.  But we'll see.

My dearly beloved Nikki moved to Woodstock, NY a few days ago and I'm still pretty sad.  Her and I had a good understanding of things together, and it's rare to find someone that just "gets it" with you.  Solid ladyfriends are few and far between and I miss her already!

i saw this guy not too long ago and I LOVE HIM.

oh, william elliott whitmore.  you make all the ladies swoon.

here's a picture of me looking really happy (and pale):

during summerweek my friends and I made a potato gun.  It was really awesome, and I somehow felt natural holding that big stupid thing.  I think maybe I found my true life calling?

sunday funday )

also, i find this to be hillarious:  daniel's brother-in-law worked with jack mcbrayer a little while ago and told him that daniel CONSTANTLY gets told that he looks like him.  jack mcbrayer enjoyed this idea and really wanted a picture of daniel to see.  i think this should be topped by us going to visit and getting a picture of them side-by-side.  i think the universe would explode.

i am going to see alkaline trio and saves the day tonight. the 16-year old inside of me is REALLY, REALLY pumped.  if the get up kids tagged along i'd probably vomit from sheer excitement.  oh my god, get up kids, PLEASE play somewhere near me.  please.  i know you've reunited and played a couple shows.  get over here.

i'm not going to keep my hopes up too high, but if they don't play at least one decent song each i'll kill everybody at the rave.
