Obama seems to have won;

posted just this sec off the Beeb;

Electoral College votes
Winning post 270
Obama - Democrat 333
McCain - Republican 155

Congressional Results: Senate
Party Seats
Democrat 53
Republican 39

House of Representatives
Party Seats
Democrat 184
Republican 118

I, meanwhile will celebrate today not as 'Yay Obama's won Day' but rather 'Thank fuck Sarah Palin's not gonna be VP Day'. Already some are comparing Obama to our own KRudd - a warrior for do nothing mediocrity, waving a flag of vaguely left-leaning rhetoric.

Ah well, who cares eh? At least Palin's not VP. Open up the Bollinger eh?

I agree.... The thought of Sarah Palin having any influence over anything is a very scarey thought indeed.

*shudder*

Well the man has a grasp of rhetoric, so that's a good start. He's also not ashamed to sound smart - which couldn't be said for McCain, who seemed to try to sound 'down home' to reassure the punters that he wasn't elitist and scarily smart. I find myself liking Obama for that.
It also permanently demonstrates to both black and white America that black Americans can aspire to be smart and president and get voted in - that they're complete citizens. That's a big deal. Imagine an Aboriginal prime minister. How long do you think we might have to wait for that? (although, how long will the US have to wait for a Native American president? the mind boggles)
For all I know he might be breath-takingly corrupt already - and he'll certainly make compromises I won't approve of. But as a symbol that America badly seems to need? He's spot on. And much, much better than the alternative. Never ever trust a man who pretends to be dumber than he is in order for other people to like him.
As for Sarah Palin? I don't think that souffle will rise twice. Another stroke against McCain - he chose a running mate that exemplified everything that everyone else across the world HATED about the previous republican administration. And she might have been as dumb as she pretended. Couldn't he have found a smart woman to nominate as VP? Or was that just too threatening for everyone? Sheesh. She made me cringe. And it's not even my country.
