While @ Barnes & Noble I decided to treat myself to a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks so I blazed up to the counter and here's how it went down:
Overly Cheerful Barista: "Hi There! What can I get ya, today?!"
Me: "I'd like a tall Pumpkin Spice Latte. Iced. No sweetner but extra skim milk please"
OCB: "Ummmm, a medium Iced Pumpkin Spice, got it!"
Me: "Yup, with extra skim milk and no sweetner"
OCB: "Ummmm, I don't think we have extra skim milk *giggle* no, no we don't have extra skim milk *giggle* actually ummm, I don't think there is such a thing"
Me: "I want it made with extra milk. More milk than the regular amount you usually use."
OCB: "Ummmm..." *blink-blink* "Ohhhhh, you mean like extra milk?" "Like more milk in the cup?" "Oh, ok I can do that but it'll have to be with skim milk thats all we have"
Me: "Yeah, thanks" |

Wanted: Starbucks Baristas - Brains Optional.
sheesh!
While we are complaining about Starbucks barristas:
There is a Starbucks in my office park that I go to almost every weekday morning before work. One of the barristas, Kristen, is super nice and greets me by name every morning and she knows what I usually get so by the time I get to the front of the line, my tea is all made up for me and waiting there. Which normally is great since I do *usually* get tea but I don't *always* want tea! Sometimes I want iced tea! or hot chocolate! or a frappucino! But once she's made my drink, I would feel bad telling her I wanted something else that day so I end up taking the tea even when I don't want it. I know she's just trying to be helpful, but stop typecasting me dammit! :P
Ohhh that would kinda drive me nuts too. It's too bad you guys couldn't work out a signal type thing so she could just look at you and know "yup your gettin' tea that morning" :)
Hey, that's a good idea! Ha. Right now I'm just driving to a different Starbucks down the street on days when I don't want tea...kind of a hassle!
Oh man, thats too much work! I'd pull her aside and think up a signal, kind of a secret pal nod type thing :)
Did she use her short arm, or really, really long arm?
me: Do the orange mochas taste more like coffee with orange or are they really sweet like orange with a mocha aftertaste
barista: we have a mocha orange and an orange tangerine.
me: i see that. do the mochas taste more like coffee with a hint of orange or like orange with a coffee aftertaste?
barrista: No, we have two differnt kinds.
Me: ok i will have a mocha orange frappachino.
barrista: orange frappachino coming up.
Me: a mocha orange frappachino?
barrista: OH...you want a frappachino?
Me: uh,nevermind i'll have a caramel frappachino.
Ha! Thats awesome!!! Phew, I'm not the only one w/ ditzy baristas :)
awesome. what a brain. :)
here's a couple of mine...
me: I'd like half a dozen chicken nuggets please. them: ummm... we only have 6 or 12 pieces. >_<
another time, trying to purchase earrings... me: I'd like a pair of those silver earring studs please. her: uh, we only sell them individually. me: then...can I have two of them? her: oh, you mean two of the same kind?
Nice! Those are classic :)
