Oh! [Mar. 4th, 2010|07:20 pm]

I tried on a bunch of my old (read: too small) clothes today, and a lot of them actually fit me again!
Some of them were a size 16. Which is still big, but almost 3 sizes smaller than i was at this time last year.

Remember your old silver and black patterned asymmetrical skirt, Becca? It fits! it's not the most flattering, but I could wear it!

Adventures in Knitting ( Run on sentences without paragraph breaks? Hell yes!) [Mar. 3rd, 2010|10:57 am]

So, coming off of the high of managing to finish my Knitting Olympics sweater 5 days ahead of schedule (size Small, i love you), I decided I wanted to make something for myself. Easier said than done. I am not an accessories person. And I am losing weight (slowly now, but just wait till spring!). So I didn't want to knit a whole sweater that would potentially be too big in a couple months. And I am kind of in this place where stockinette is boring me to death. So I spent three hours trying to find the PERFECT lace shrug pattern. Problem is, I kinda hate lace. I like making lace, I just don't like a lot of the kinds of lace I've seen. It's all too girly and ethereal, and I don't usually go there. I like chunky, geometric lace. And wouldn't you know it, it was almost impossible to find something I liked.

Lucky for me, the lady at my LYS ( http://www.darnknitanyway.com/ ) is awesome, and managed to find me something perfect. In a book full of other perfect things : http://www.kimhargreaves.co.uk/acatalog/Breeze_Book.html
(I'm knitting Buttercup, BTW)

Problem is, the book was so expensive, I had to play it cool on the yarn binge and order some cheap stuff online. So now I have to wait. So what does one do in this situation? Wait patiently for the yarn to come and make some scarves? Or does she cast on another black lace sweater?

Yep. I cast on a sweater. So i will be knitting two black lace projects at once. On teeeeny tiiiny needles. The sweater will probably be kinda scratchy and weird. I decided I had inherited so much yarn that I need to actually enforce my rule of knitting equal amounts of my stash before I can buy more yarn. My mom bought me this random cone of super fine acrylic so I could mess around with lace this past summer, and I never used it.So I am half convinced that it will be total crap. If it is, oh well. And if I get too small for it in a month, it was free yarn, right?

Also, I am going to St. Louis for almost a week. I leave on Monday. I am terrified.
And I need y'all to explain the rules on knitting needles for domestic flights...on the TSA website, it says needlework projects and tools are allowed, and it has a picture of some aluminum needles...but I know someone who had her aluminum needles confiscated a couple weeks back. Does anyone have any idea what I should anticipate?
