sometimes i sit and wounder
if i'm just a cog or wheel
in a machine of cosmic thunder
or am i all that's real?
hylozoistically, fabulous things await us
in these days of interesting times
this world could be a paradise, marvelous
when seen between the lines
but, in the pattern of all energy-wasters,
we steadily use up what's best in this world
and leave our decaying slag
in the coming flames to writhe & curl
like lemmings we blindly run
seeking a new car, a VCR,
something new under the sun
never seeing where the cliffs are
until as yeast in organic fermentation
we stew in our own manure.
not a thought of pretty contemplation
how much more can we endure?
