Birthday cupcakes!
In addition to my job as "maker of the wedding cakes," during my recent trip I added on the task of baking some cupcakes for my nephew's 10th birthday which had passed a few days before. I had some cute little star-shaped marshmallows an an idea I'd wanted to use for a child's birthday, so full steam ahead I went! ( Cut for big pics ) |

 has anyone else tried this yet!? phew! in other news i woke up at 6am and i was missing one of my nose rings and at that point i accepted that i might have to go to work looking like a retard and i looked for it in the sheets and i even asked phill to sit up so i could look under him, (we were having some ridiculous full moon love, so i'm not surprised it got lost!) but i couldn't find it. of course, when we both got up he looked for one second and found it all the way down near the foot of the bed. and now it's back where it belongs. one hour 'til work. |

Traditional rock cakes
 This is an old old favourite, reminds me of being 7 years old with my mum in the kitchen and giggling over our sticky fingers. It's a great recipe to use if you're just hankering after some baked treats but only have the basics in the cupboard, as that's all it uses! Best of all, it's a one bowl recipe, less washing up means more time for stuffing your face. This is also a brilliant recipe for doing with children, it's easy, quick and involves getting messy, what could be better in a small person's mind?

Blueberry Coconut Pound Cakes
 Call them what you will; the recipe calls them "individual pound cakes", but I think they're more like a muffin.. aside from the obvious muffin shape, they were also a bit lighter than pound cake usually is. Either way, they were pretty delicious and even though I have the recipe filed under "dessert", they still made an excellent addition to breakfast. ;) Blueberries have made their way to the farmer's market here and I figured this was a good recipe to start with. Chocolate Daim Cake
Yay, I finally found a good recipe that more or less tastes like Ikea's Daim Cake! :-)  ( +++ ) Thank god for the Daim bars that were going for 2-packets-for-the-price-of-1! Just in case you guys do not know what Daim bars are, they are actually Swedish chocolate bars- hardened caramel wrapped in milk chocolate. They're yummy. You can definitely get them from Ikea!

Spiced Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with Applesauce
Both my cousin and my father have developed diabetes in recent years. My cousin seems to be adhering to his diet more than my father, so I hunted around for a yummy recipe to take to the family. (I've been loading them up with baked goods, most of which my cousin can't eat.) The recipe site was linked in the comments to an entry in this community. As I had (almost) all the ingredients for this recipe, I adapted it and I have to say I'm rather pleased. These oatmeal raisin cookies came out wonderfully cakey and, after discovering the wonders of spiced oatmeal raisin cookies, I don't think I'll ever make oatmeal cookies without the spices. Yay! The nutritional information is included with the original recipe, and it may be slightly different since I made a couple substitutions. I hope these fit into my cousin's diet! I made a double batch so I could freeze some for the next time I see my dad, too.

What to do....
This morning I got a phone call confirming a place at my new job! it was something I was stressing over, so of course I was excited. So I was craving something to reward myself. My boyfriend also wanted me to bake some bread. But the thing was, we already had a bunch of bread, but neither of us wanted to eat it... (since it was pretty much stale). So what does one do with a bunch of stale bread?
God it was delicious! The blueberries added a divine little tang and some extra flavor, so I didn't even need to put any sort of syrup on it! I was so happy that we had everything to make this... I've been craving bread pudding for ages! I was a little worried at first, because it was a fairly dense bread, it being a whole-wheat bread and all. but it turned out delicious just the same! I was also considering baking it in a water bath, because that's how I would usually cook most custards... but it turned out wonderful and moist all around without it! I love it when I try a recipe for the first time and it comes out amazing. Sorry for all the pics.... I was excited hehe. I've been meaning to post something about this for a while but I keep forgetting.
so this saturday (the 19th) there is a party being thrown at the minneapolis theater garage for keith being found/well and all the people who helped with the search and stuff. it's from 3-11PM EVERYONE is invited. Even if all you did was send your thoughts and prayers you are still welcome. And especially those of you who volunteered, you really should be there! there's going to be food and raffles etc, it's going to be really cool! I hope to see a lot of you there! ALSO |

it's 9:20 am and i never post this early! hell! usually i'm snuggling my baby at this hour still, but phill has a critic screening this morning, (think grumpy middle aged people watching movies at 10am, it gives a little reason to why film reviews are opinionated sometimes!) and the recycle truck is outside, and there was a tough girl with a LONG ponytail throwing boxes out there, which made me happy to see. the italien festival is on hertel, which is the "main" avenue that i live off of in buffalo, these are my choices. work at 2 and it's fish fry day and that is not exciting when it's 90 degrees out. found so many dream items while thrifting yesterday. !!! <3<3<3 p.s. i want to see batman ASAP |

crunchy baked pork chops and apple tart
Crunchy baked pork chops and rustic apple tart  ( and the apple tart! )I didn't add Parmesan in the crust of the pork chop, so it could've used a bit more salt, but it was juicy and crunchy as promised. Some of the apple slices got a little burnt because I, uh, kind of forgot to brush the tart with melted butter and sugar until halfway through the cooking time >_>;; Not very sweet at all, but good with ice cream! |

( meme whilst waiting to leave for Minnesota ) As I struggle to keep my eyes open, I'm in delirious disbelief that I am going to be in my own house by this time tomorrow. I'll be able to sleep in my own bed. Wow. And, I can start planning my next European vacation for when Kirby graduates. It will be awesome. I also knew I should've bought MIchael Palin's book "A New Europe" whilst I was in the UK...I'll just find it on Amazon. I now have to revamp my book list for the summer yet again. |
