I'm looking for a good fabric shop in Pittsburgh, any area will do. I am specifically looking for a place that has a good range of upholstery/furnishing fabrics. I've already checked Joann and Michaels...with no joy.

Hello LJ community!
The ToonSeum is presenting a public panel at the Warhol Museum on Saturday, October 18th at 2pm. The panel discussion is about editorial cartooning and the 2008 Presidential election. In the midst of a campaign infused with racism, sexism, ageism, and moose hunting, American's editorial cartoonists have been very busy. With only a few weeks left in this historical campaign, everyone is invited to join three of the nation's top editorial cartoonists as they share their unusual behind-the-pen perspective. Panelests are Ann Telnaes of the Washington Post, Mike Peters of the Dayton Daily News (and creator of comic strip Mother Goose and Grimm), and Pittsburgh PG's own Rob Rogers. The panel will be moderated by iconic Pittsburgh radio personality, Lynn Cullen.
Admission to the panel is free with admission to the Warhol Museum, $15 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for students with ID, free for museum members (and for CMU students).

i'm work out newbie looking into getting a personal trainer to help me get back in shape! can anyone refer me to someone good, or recommend a gym in any area between the east end and the south side? i already get free gym access at Pitt as a student, so i'm not necessarily looking into a stellar gym membership-- just one that offers classes or experienced trainers at a reasonable price!

This is a reminder and promised second alert that Voices For Animals is protesting Sarah Palin this Friday, October 10th outside the Westin Hotel Convention Center, Downtown on Penn Avenue, where she will be appearing in person to speak at a fundraiser. The time of the protest will be 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
We will have a group of "Polar Bears against Palin" on-site to explain in person why they object to the Vice-Presidential candidate. Palin probably has the worst combined environmental and animal welfare record in political history. Among other atrocious things she has done, she actively promotes the aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska where wolves are shot by low-flying airplanes, and she is suing the federal government to remove polar bears from the Endangered Species List because she considers them a threat to oil interests. The Humane Society of the United States Legislative Fund website states: "Her record is so extreme that she has perhaps done more harm to animals than any other current governor in the United States."
We are asking all other protesters to WEAR WHITE in solidarity with the bears and fauna/flora of the Alaskan wilderness threatened by Palin's close ties to the oil, gas and sporthunting industries. If you don't possess white clothes (many of us don't!), head for thrift stores in the next few days. The "white-out" effect is the key to the success of this event. Other groups such as Code Pink will be joining us in the protest and wearing white in solidarity with the bears. Let's hope that this sets a nationwide trend of "whiting out" Sarah Palin!
We will have signs available but feel free to bring your own if you wish. We will also have leaflets to pass out detailing the abuses Palin has committed against animals and the environment. Please join us for this event, and if you can, let us know if you're intending to come (it helps with sign preparation). Bring friends and family too. Spread the word WIDELY! We need a maximum of people for effect.
The exact address of the Westin is below. Security measures may oblige us to move off-center but you should have no problem locating us in the area. Please note that this is a peaceful event and we have no intention of engaging in any form of confrontation with police or security on-site.

Really, who the hell has to lie about their age on Facebook?
There's this guy that I went to school with in 4th and 5th grade. Currently, he's listing his birthdate as being in 1988. If that were true, that'd put him at being 20 right now. So, explain to me how this guy, who fucked up A LOT when in my class, graduates so young? He's listed as a MGCCC alum of 2006, and that's awesome. If you spend four years in college, then that makes sense if you're in my graduating class. 2002.
So, let's do some math. You take 2002 and subtract 1988 from it. That gives you 14. So, this guy wants you to believe he was 14 when he graduated from high school. Some kids do. Some home schooled kids do. But this guy was a little bit of a discipline problem. It's very doubtful that this guy graduated that young. I started school a year early. I was 17 at the time of the Class of 2002 graduation.
What I'm getting at is that I think it's pretty sad that this guy has to lie about his age. I mean, I just don't understand why. I get why girls lie about their age sometimes, but guys? ...c'mon, man, that's just ridiculous.
Almost as ridiculous as someone actually taking time to think this thing out. Ugh..

I'm working on something for Halloween, and I need fake flesh or whatever passes for it. What I want is a large section of my forearm to look like exposed musculature. as the result of something violent. What can I use for the "muscle" and where can I find it? Anyone?
Where are some good places to go pumpkin picking that's a reasonable distance (say, no more than 30-40 minutes) from the city?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know of low-cost pilates classes around the burgh'? I googled, classes are so expensive. Just wondering if someone knew of something maybe not advertised or known of as much that doesn't cost an arm and leg.
Thanks
