So far it hasn't the beginning to The Summer Of George that I had hoped. Yesterday I gave myself the day off to decompress, and Kieron came over to tool around with Linux. verticale put it best in her journal:

"It was Tim's first day as unemployed bum, and Kieron decided to keep him company. With the amount of Coke cans scattered throughout the house (most still half full) you would have thought they had a party in my abscence."

Funny, but it wouldn't have been much of a party. We hooked up Keiron's computer and watched it completely fuck up a SuSE install. Then we gave up and bitched about Jet and commercial music for a while, then played Doom 3.

Today was my first run at a day's worth of writing. Not much to report, unfortunately. I managed to get most of chapter 7 proofread, but it was really only a sanity check -- ie, fix up all the sentences that don't make sense, rewrite the stuff the sounds awkward, and rewrite the parts where characters go strangely OOC for a line or two (or a page or two in one case.)

I really wanted to have the epilogue finished before I finished at work, then spend the next four weeks basically turning the completed first draft into something respectable. But I dragged my feet on the epilogue -- mostly because I have the first page written, but I don't know which stone to leap to next. The longer I sit there with a flashing cursor watching nothing happen, the more I feel a writer's block coming on. I think the answer is in going over the earlier chapters first -- albeit briefly -- to capture the pulse of the story again. There's a definite ending that the whole book has lead up to, I just don't know what it is. Well, I DO...I just don't quite see how it's going to get there.

It'll get there somehow.
