Sigune's drawing of Clancy
As promised, it is time to announce the winners of my first (and hopefully not my last) Snape Art Contest.

It was very difficult for me to select a winner because it was so much fun watching all of your pictures paint themselves on playback. larilee was my co-judge, and her advice was to declare everyone a winner because all the pictures were very entertaining. I agree, but I decided it would be best to adhere strictly to the contest rules. Remember, the main purpose of the contest is to make me laugh and promote general silliness. The drawings that demonstrate the greatest artistic technique won’t necessarily win, but then again, they might, if they also happen to be the silliest. It could go either way. It’s a highly improbable world, after all.

So, this is my roundabout way of saying that laughter appeal was the main thing being judged. Next, keeping to the theme, which was Snape posing as the Mona Lisa, with odd canon details included, along with the option of a funny hat.

Well then, with that in mind, here are this month’s “winners”. (We’re all winners, really, aren’t we? We had some fun and had the opportunity to take our minds off the serious side of the Potions master.)

Winner: Why Dumbledore Trusts (Mona) Snape by Sigune

sigune, your prize in lieu of a poem or a horrid song filk of “Mona Lisa”, is the opportunity to select the theme for next month’s contest. Fawkes perched on Snape’s head was a clever way of working in the hat option and an unexpected canon detail. A very humorous explanation of why Dumbledore trusts Snape.

Joint Runner-Up (tie): Untitled by Perselus and Calimari, Anyone? By Grainne

perselus, your drawing wins for coming closest to the look of the real Mona Lisa and for a background cameo by The Boy Who Might Not Live If Snape Drops The Rope! Send me a private e-mail if you would like a poem, and if you’d rather not be subjected to my drivel, you will maintain your reputation for good taste. :-D

Please have a look at how brilliantly perselus paints Snape as the Mona Lisa when her talent isn’t hampered by the limitations of ArtPad: Perselus’ Real Mona Snape

, your calimari made me giggle because you saved the funniest part for last and let your artwork unfold in a humorous fashion. You certainly know how to bait Snape with squid. You don’t win a darn thing, because you recently won a poem in the Jarvey-naming contest, and I’m too lazy to write another. But if you really want one...

Second Place Runner-Up: Everyone else. Yes, I know I’m a wimp, but I did enjoy them all. Next month I shall try to be more discerning, but I may fail. Have patience with me. I’m new at this.

Thank you all for entering and I hope to see you back for next month’s contest. Please urge your friends to drop by and enter too!

Here are this month’s entries in no particular order, so you won’t have to hunt through the thread to view them:

This is amazing. I agree with your decision to declare everyone a winner. It's just unbelievable. I wish I were gifted with a pen. :)

This has been great fun. I've enjoyed everyone's work, and I encourage all levels to participate. Perhaps a future theme will inspire you!

Your LJ has become host to great works of art! ;-D Really, I loved all of the drawings!

I hope you'll contribute something next time! Snape eating a peanut butter sandwich, perhaps? Or another trifle...

*does a wild victory dance*
Wheeeeee! Thanks Karina! I had the Fawkes idea while taking a bath... I remembered Archimedes so I jumped out again and hurried over to the computer to draw it :-).

I shall of course take my prize very seriously and give it a good deal of thought. Hmmm...

Eureka! The result was superb!

Re: :-D
Congratulations, Sigune, and hurrah for bathtub inspirations! I do declare, I would have eaten my hat (pineapple or no) if you hadn't won, although I did greatly admire and/or crack up over all the other pictures posted here. I don't suppose you would draw us a picture of your wild victory dance? ;-)

*and yes, Karina, I know I am supposed to be away, but I have discovered this odd thing called wi-fi, which my computer is apparently capable of, and which exists in the hotel I'm staying in at present...I am a luddite no more!*

Fabulous! And you're wearing *that* shirt! A portrait of the artist in one of her Wilde moments!

Now back to bed. It's 3:00 in the morning here and I'm just passing through!

Re: :-D
*claps* And love the T-shirt!

Re: :-D
Love it! Self portrait, eh? That would be a good topic for an artpad contest since we don't know what each other looks like...hmmm...(there's somthing wrong this that sentence, but whatever)

Re: :-D
Wi-fi? Feet still planted firmly in the last century, I've never heard of it. Sounds like one of Athene Evercantes' Swahili words: "One more peep out of you, Snape, and I'm going to wi-fi your sorry arse right back to the Room of Accord!"

Enjoy your post-luddite bliss. I'll never catch up. :-D

Just a way of connecting to the internet without "wires." ALthough I like your interpretation better *chuckles* Asante, kwaheri, Vocalion!

Oh, I love these!! I was going to do an entry, just for a laugh, (I'm hopeless at drawing) but didn't get the time with all the baby things going on at the moment! I'm definitely going to experiment with that art pad thing when I get time though. And congrats on your wins in the Awards :)
Jun. 14th, 2005 11:57 pm (UTC)
Thank you, Araminta!

I hope you'll enter something next time or just draw something for fun and post it too. Best wishes to you and your new baby!

Wonderful submissions! I think everyone did terrifically! Congratulations winners!

Love your new avatar!

Re: Avatar
Thank you! perselus made it for me off her art work.
Jun. 15th, 2005 05:51 am (UTC)
All entries made me laugh - so the ultimate goal of the contest was hit(at least on my part). I tried my luck with the art pad, but was a bit short on time to accomplish something presentable with my lack of talent. But next time I will try to submit an entry as well. It's too much fun!
Jun. 15th, 2005 10:52 am (UTC)
Maybe I should extend the contest deadline to two weeks next month to allow more time for everyone to experiment with ArtPad. Hope you'll join us. No talent required - only a sense of humor. :-D

Performance art
I know I am too late, but I saw something at the store today that made me think of this contest. It was a pineapple Pez dispenser! I nearly tripped over my son trying to get to it. Not exactly a dancing pineapple, but it could bob about for you! It had sunglasses on too, which would be Highly Impractical for dungeon life. Oh well! It made me laugh and think of you! If you want one, let me know and I will pick it up for you!!

Re: Performance art
How nice of you to think of me! I'd love one! Did you see it at a national chain store or in a store that's only near you? Anyway, I'll e-mail you and give you my address. Thanks! :-D
Jun. 16th, 2005 09:29 am (UTC)
Congrats to Sigune! And all the others!

I apologize for not being here and even more for not entering anything but my exams were in the way...

I love all the art pictures! They are great! =) Great idea Karina!

Hi Sniv!

Oh, don't apologize. School comes first!

I would never have known about ArtPad if I hadn't seen it on your LJ! :-)
Jun. 16th, 2005 10:19 am (UTC)
Yes well but you came up with this very entertaining idea! *bows*
