Blow Dryer?

I usually either blow dry my hair straight or roller set it and I'm looking for a new blow dryer. Any suggestions? Some things you may need to know....um I'm relaxed, I've had a problem of the blow dryer teeth breaking off in my hair and I don't want something that's going to be too damaging. TIA.

Rogaine and Vitamin E oil
1) I'm trying to grow out my eyebrows because there are some sparse spots I want to fill in. Have any of you used Rogaine to make your brows grow in faster? did it work for you?

2)I just bought a bottle of vitamin E oil, after reading here and in other places that it helps fade acne scars. For those of you who used it, how long did it take to see a difference, if any happened at all?

Sedu Experiences
Hey Everyone. I just bought a Sedu flat iron last week and I am already thinking that I may return it.

The reason for this is because I feel like it doesn't get my roots completely flat-ironed. When I'm all done flat ironing, the roots are considerably thicker/poofier than the rest of my hair. Maybe my technique is wrong? I blow-dry then I separate my hair into four sections and get as close to the scalp as I can with the iron without burning it. I feel like I'm constantly going over the roots with the iron and they still stay on the poofy side. I have chemically relaxed hair and my last touch up was last month. I'm going to wash my hair tonight and retry it again but I thought I would ask the community for advice on how you all get those roots!

Thanks!

Living it up!
Hello from Phuket, Thailand.

We are currently on our ... 6th day, I think. I am absolutely loving it. We stayed in Bangkok for three days which was so much of a culture shock and so different to any reality that I have ever known. I was so paraniod that I had deep vein thrombosis, lol since I had some burning in the back of my left calf and my ankles were a bit painful, but ... alas, I am okay and in no pain now... Well at least, no DVT pains, but I do have immense pain in my shoulders and chest from sunburn which has come out a bit rashy... Ouch!

So far I have been shopping on what's called The Floating Markets, been on the backs of elephants thru a little kind of jungle, visited a tiger temple (where the tigers and cubs were suspiciously lucid, which in retrospect makes me feel a little bit sad.) we did some super shopping in Bangkok where I spent about $40 on about 15 articles of clothing... Can't do that at home!  We also went to Dreamworld in Thailand which was awesome...it was a themepark, but the day was so hot that at a few points, I felt like passing out.

We left for Phuket on Sunday afternoon and arrived here early sunday evening. We did some shopping again, ate at a McDonalds (omg its way more perfect than McD's at home!) and got massages (PG-rated ones.)... We went on this awesome "James Bond" tour which included canoeing our way through caves to what looked as close to paradise as I have ever seen. when we were in the canoe the guys on the crew decided to share with us, "There's sharks" ... we were like, AHHHHHHHHH... their response? "No hurt, you crocodile dundee." ....

I have been really sunburned, but that's to be expected with the filthy heat. On our last night in Bangkok we got in a Tuktuk which was an experience. We ate half of Bangkok along the way and went to this dodgy place called Koh San road where it was full nightlife. People grabbing our arms wanting us to look... all we wanted to do was to eat.

So yesterday we went to a market place in Patong and did more shopping then my sister in law and I went Paragliding. Basically they attach you in a parachute to a boat, and the boat speeds off, you run to the shore edge and get lifted to a crazy height... about 80ft over the water for a couple of minutes. It was amazing, I thought it would be scary -- but it wasn't ... it was brilliant. I'd do it again in a second. I have a bit of a fear of heights, but this wasn't scary what-so-ever.

Tonight we are going to this thing called Fantasia, it's a special show that we were told was really good. The breakfast buffets are amazing. Today we spnt half of the afternoon lying by only ONE of the two hotel pools.... haha paradise, I tell yuo. I have taken more than 500 photos. I think I'll need a flickr account.

Anyway, I need to go back up to my room and get ready. I have a dress to wear tonight, and some make up to put on... I can't wait for dinner. I'm starving. I miss home a bit... I miss my zoo. Unfortunately the day we left home to come to Sydney, my dog Rocky became paralysed from the waist down and we visited him in the vet right before we left, but basically there was nothing they could do to help him :( ... The poor litle thing had no feeling what-so-ever, and it got progressively worse. Apparently a disc in his spine exploded or something to that effect, and so he had to be put to sleep... :( so my first night here was a sad one.

This is probably superstition, but every single time I have gone abroad, something has happened to one of my animals. The first time, our family cat, Zuki.... the second time, my two dogs Bull and Pumpkin and now Rocky..... :(

These things happen, I suppose.... It's just sad. my poor Mummy was so devastated. Rocky was her favourite little girl. (Even though it was a boy)

That's it for now.

God Bless,
Jess

After a year's hiatus from waitressing, I am considering geting back into it. I need to make some money part-time and I know this is the best way to make the most money nights and weekends, although I left the indusrty fairly burnt out. I had been doing it ten years and swore I'd never go back, but I need the money.

Cut for those squeamish about breast-feeding )

So tomorrow I'm going shopping for a heat protectant. I've seen references in the past, but now I can't find them anymore. I had a good experience with Bed Head's Superficial, but I've only used it once, and I'm scared it won't look as good when used regularly. You know when you use something new on your hair once and it looks AWESOME, but the second time, not so much? Yeah, well that's what I'm afraid of. Do you guys mind sharing with me your experiences? And pictures, if you have any.

A most recent picture of my hair )

Thanks!

**EDIT: I just bought REDKEN SMOOTH DOWN HEAT GLIDE and I'll be using it tomorrow, most likely. I'll definitely update with a review, soon. Thanks so much for your help, everyone!**

HI!
Just a couple of questions:

1. What are the benefits and consequences to putting clip-in hair extensions in Black hair?

2. What do hot-combs do to Black hair? I heard they were especially detrimental, but why are they worse than other heat-styling methods?

Thanks, stay beautiful!

Three Weeks After Being Terminated...
I HAVE DAS JOB!
*cheers and huzzah’s* I can’t say the name in case of future ranting. (And if anyone guesses it please don’t let on. It’s not fair or right.) But yesterday I went to my orientation to learn everything about the company AND receive a basic ‘training’ as to their menu and product quality. Translation: They fed us. They fed the crap out of us. I was so stuffed by the time I left I didn’t even want dinner. And there’s more to that. You get this booklet with a full listing of their product line. You’re expected to try as much of it as possible (which you can ask permission to sample for free from your manager) and write down what you honestly think of the product. THEY ARE ACTUALLY ASKING OUR OPINION!
No tips. But the starting pay is $7.50 an hr. Plus in 60 days I come up for performance evaluation and if they like my work ethic and if I’ve filled out as much of that little booklet as possible I can get up to a $1.00 raise. They also have a little get together every quarter when the company releases a new product. Everyone gets to sample it and say what they think. That’s also when little atta-boys are given and promotions come about.
So why am I so scared? Why am I waiting for the other shoe to drop? I’m so used to being treated like shit at my job and this place just sound like they at least give their employees a modicum of respect.

One more time..with FEELING!
So, I mentioned in my last post I was planning to curl my hair and it turned out suprisingly well!
So I thought I would share.
Note: My hair is actually purplish blue, but I thought the bangs looked a little too piecey, so I went out and found a 2 pack of weave, about 6-8" black and blue streaked!!! (Can you tell I am excited!?) So I added that to the "fringe" I have going on in the front.

Anyways, Enjoy :)

Let it Go )

I had an experience last night at a restaurant that still has me going o.O

My husband and I joined a friend of his for his wife's birthday at a restaurant about 10 minutes from our house, a place that multiple co-workers have recommended as a great spot to grab an after-work drink or have dinner. I don't believe that it's a chain place, I think this might be the only one around.

When we got up to the hostess stand, our hostess took, and I'm not exagerating, around 5 minutes to actually find where our party was seated--they had a touchscreen table list vs a floorplan (fyi, I find lists vs floorplans to be VERY annoying and less efficient...my place went from floorplan to a list of tables, and it was downright impossible to find anyone quickly). My husband told her three different times the last name of the party, and even though the list appeared to be in alphabetical order, she took forever to find it.

Then, after the 5 minutes of searching through the computerized seating list, she said, "Oh, your party is seated over on the lefthand side by the mirrors. Enjoy your meal!"

I found it strange that she didn't offer to take us to the table, or even POINT OUT where they were sitting. Instead, she gave us vague directions to where they were sitting. Yes, there was a slight line of people behind us (maybe 1-2 parties of less than 4 people each), but there were TWO hostesses at the hostess stand and a waitress who seemed to be up there as a backup TO the hostesses (she sat a couple of tables while we were waiting for the hostesses to find tables in those overly-complicated touchscreen lists).

I don't think I've ever been in a restaurant (aside from like a Bob Evans type of place) where the hostess didn't at least walk a ways with us to point out where our table was seated, if not the whole way.

Am I being sensitive about this, or am I justified in going o.O?

(other than that, everything else was fantastic....service, food, drinks. Our server bonded with the one girl because she was matching her husband beer for beer :D)

Oh, and one more question--I was arguing with one of the people at the table about auto-grat. He says that he thinks servers would do better to NOT put autograt on a check vs putting it on. I say in the long run the servers do better, because when you split up a large group and expect them to tip on their own, the group as whole tips less than the autograt for whatever reason (they're cheap, they figure someone else in the group will tip big, etc). From what I've seen in this community, I'm right, and he's wrong. (he also won't tip a penny over autograt when it's put on there because he thinks it's rude...but other than that, he's actually a good tipper. I drop tip amounts when the service has just been abysmal or I get asked if I want change...i HATE that)

(It's sadly a fair representation of me. :|)

NGHHFFHHG 500 WATCHERS?

You guys are awesome. *A* ♥♥♥ I don't think I can offer layout requests this time since I procastinate so incredibly badly on them (Orz..... some people know by experience).

However, if anyone wants it, I'll take requests for icons/banners/wallpapers of any subject. Just paste the link of an image or give me the name of a fandom and/or character, and I'll try to make 1-3 icon variants out of it; if it's large enough, I'll attempt a wallpaper or banner. OKAY? :DDDb I'll cap it off at around 15-20, if I get that many responses. XD;

PS: I'll try to actually get them up in time. Rly.

Salons in Washington Heights, NYC?
I spend a lot of time in Washington Heights (170's and St. Nicholas area) in Manhattan. Can someone recommend a good salon in that area that won't put me in the poor house? I'm just need the occasional touch up or wash and set. Nothing major. Thanks!

A day later...
So I made a post a day ago about cutting my hair into an asym style and adding extensions.

I did it, and thought I'd share :)

Lopsided )

I like it, but was shocked that alot of other people did too, esp since I shaved down the side myself so I have NO IDEA what the back of my head looks like! It might be hard to tell but the one side is shaved. I used clippers with a #3 (1/3?) attachment on it, which is pretty short for me.

Anyways,
Enjoy!
