Well!
Things are happening.
I'll keep them in point form to save slogging through a massive amount of boredous text.

• Off to London in three weeks. I'll be working with the sound department on Priscilla the Musical for five weeks. Fucking YES!
• Also will be spending three days in Rome with my beau Benjamin (his Christmas gift to me) soaking up the cultural feast. May just be what I need to get back into my photography.. I hope it snows.. I'll be in London Feb/March if any of yous wanna catch up!
• I have finally been employed as a sound designer. I have my first real-deal sound design. In a real theatre. That will have people in it. That isn't NIDA. I can't.. Fucking.. Wait. It's for a play called As Bees In Honey Drown and it's one of the funniest, smartest, wittiest scripts I've read in a long time. Think.. A satire of every facet of hollywood and celebrity life. Lots of Bowie. Lots of camp. It's running for the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras which means it'll be a crapshack of funtimes.
• I've created a new LiveJournal account. Travesty! And I'm not telling you what it is yet. It'll all be about my relationship with music; in my work, in my life.. Musical discoveries, bitches about directors and budgets. It'll follow me in my quest to become a sound designer. Let me know if you're at all interested in reading about it.
• I'm sound designing Sweeney Todd at the end of this year as a cabaret play with live band. Fucking yes. Guests seated around candle-lit tables, being served pies during the show.. It'll be dirty, grotesque, debauched, and all kinds of entertaining. Woo!

And I guess that about sums it up.

I'm still alive!
Enjoying the holidays, doing as little as possible.. Will possibly be working for the Old Fitz theatre as of February, which is pretty neat :D

Got invited by Cate Blanchett through NIDA to see a dress rehearsal of the play she's directing, Blackbird.
It was full on! o_O
It was nutty though, 'cause she was there. Before we'd walked in, I could hear her voice from inside, and I swear I couldn't talk for about a minute. She was super nice, totally genuine, no obvious ego.. She welcomed us all, we only filled up the first two rows of the theatre, and thanked us for coming along, said it means a lot to her. Before I sound like a stupid fangirl, she's one of my theatre idols; I absolutely adore her acting, and judging from the play her directing is pretty cool too.. It wasn't so much that it was an Australian celebrity, but more that I was in the presence of a real force of creativity whose work I admire. Nutty.
The play, a very controversial and confronting one, was a little rough and unfinished, apparently the seating configuration had only just been put into place and having an audience was a godsend because it meant the actors could get used to the performance space before their previews and Opening Night on the 21st.
Definitely a recommended play if you're looking for something gritty that's going to hit you hard and leave you feeling a little sick to your stomach.

NIDA has been super hectic lately but I'm on holidays now so have no excuse.
I'm off to see Across the Universe with Ben, I can't wait, it looks fantastic..
Been sleeping in and watching movies and listening to music and it's been awesome.
