| Bio: | Dear Fellow Students, The tragedy of AIDS needs no introduction so I’ll get right to the point. In an effort to stop the rampant spread of AIDS two of my good friends, Ben Sprague and Hannah Keirnes, came up with the idea of starting a student AIDS fundraiser. They have named this fundraiser The Philadelphia Project. This project aims to unite students at colleges and universities all over the country in a massive AIDS fundraiser. When Ben and Hannah approached me about helping run The Philadelphia Project I was thrilled at the opportunity to make a difference. I hope by the end of this letter you will be just as thrilled and eager to help out as I was. The Philadelphia Project (named in the spirit of the movie “Philadelphia”) aims to recruit 100+ member campuses to take part in a cooperative nation-wide door-to-door fund-raiser. This fund-raiser will last for three days: November 29, November 30, and International AIDS Day, December 1.Over these three days, each school will ask as many students on their campus as possible for donations in the amount of $1, $2, and $3. We will donate half of the money we raise to “Partners in Health” and their AIDS relief program in Haiti, and the other half to Metro teenAIDS, a program in Washington DC which works to prevent AIDS in teens. You can visit the websites of these organizations at www.pih.org and www.metroteenaids.org respectively. Of course, we need your help in adding more schools to The Philadelphia Project so I am writing this letter to ask you three questions. Would you either: A. like to be involved with The Philadelphia Project, possibly leading the effort at your school? B. try to find and forward to us contact information for a student service group on your campus, especially AIDS-related service groups? C. forward this email to as many people as possible at as many schools as possible who you think would be interested in helping out? What would be BEST is if you could do A and B and C so that we can have full teams of committed volunteers at as many campuses as possible! If you do want to help out at your campus or you have contact information to give me, you can contact me at mswarner@bu.edu or at matt@thephiladelphiaproject.org. I really hope you decide to help, either by being an active part of The Philadelphia Project, by forwarding this e-mail on to your friends, or just by giving a few dollars to the project. Find out more information about The Philadelphia Project by looking it up on the web at www.thephiladelphiaproject.org. Sincerely, Matthew Warner Co-Director | |||||||
