IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE  
Today (or was it yesterday?) shiiki made a post that happened to link to this "HP Companion" thing, and I decided to peruse the whole thing. I'm obviously not into Harry Potter like I once was, but the books -- especially Philosopher's Stone -- still give me a kind of warm squishy feeling (otherwise known as "nostalgia" but stfu, I like "warm and squishy") and so the site made me go "awww". Plus I actually read a thing or two I didn't already know, which is really saying something.

If I was more eloquent this might be a post about childhood and/or nostalgia or something, but I am not, so instead I bring you a POLL. For SCIENCE.

Somehow by way of Twilight and Doctor Who I gathered a lot of people on my flist who ship H/Hr. So I bring you questions. For science, and great justice.

you know i never really DID ship ron with anyone. not because i didn't like him, i just couldn't see him with anyone really.

My general attitude towards HP ships was "WHATEV", but when I was trying to think of who Ron would've/could've ended up with aside from Hermione, I just kind of drew a blank. I didn't even really know if there was a general consensus or not.

See, most of the people I actually met through HP fandom shipped R/Hr/liked DH well enough/etc, but then when I started poking around in other places I gathered all these friends who are like... massively scarred. It cracks me up.

I almost ship Harry/Hermione just because if they did have kids - which I doubt they would - the names would be 4934635464 times more badass.

I dunno, I mean, harry's clearly behind the Fail of his own kids' names, but I do think Hermione would've been like NO WE ARE NOT NAMING THEM AFTER YOUR DEAD PARENTS GOD.

Then again I think she was behind "Rose" and "Hugo" and.... I dunno, those struck me as almost stranger than Albus/Lily/James. Because you kind of expect Harry to be a sentimental fool, but then it's like LOL RANDOM NAMES.

I think the point of Rose and Hugo was LOL MUGGLE NAMES WITH OUR INITIALS SO THEY'RE NOT ENTIRELY OUT OF NOWHERE and... idk I feel like Harry wouldn't have gone for that.

Yeah I didn't notice the initials thing like, ever. Even after people point it out to me I promptly forget. Like just now, reading that, I was like "oh yeah lol R and H i c wut u did".

I dunno, trying to think of what Harry and Hermioen would name their kids confuses my brain. This is partly because I had coming up wiht names for people's kids, though.

I didn't mind it either. I figured from the perspective of H/Hr fans though it was ... much-loathed.

Also just much-loathed in general. Idk.

God, I hate the epilogue. And it has nothing to do with shipping, because I like R/H, and am mostly indifferent to Ginny/Harry. It's just so... childish? Pointless? idk

It wasn't at all what I was expecting. I was alright with it because I get what she was trying to do with the full-circle happy family blah blah, but yeah, not what I was expecting at all.

I grew to like the epilogue just because everyone hated it! Poor, unloved, random epilogue.

Okay, and. I kind of shipped H/Hr, but ended up shipping H/G even more because I have this deep and abiding love for Ginny, but I ... shipped Ron with Luna? Even though I shipped Luna with Krum or Neville more. I just didn't like R/Hr a lot, even though I'm okay with them now because if I'm going to be indignant over ships in Harry Potter it's totally going to be over how Neville and Luna didn't get together.

I do that a lot too. I stayed indifferent towards th epilogue overall, though.

Ron and Luna seems to be the only ship (besides ron/no one) that is taking a lead. Also, yes! Neville and Luna! I don't care much about HP ships but I feel like they would be cuter than Neville/Hannah and Luna/Random Guy.

Because everyone marries someone they knew in highschool, obvs. lirl.

I did ship H/H. For, like, five minutes.

They wouldn't have been Rose and Hugo because then the ~cute~ R/H thing wouldn't have worked. Harriet and Hugo, maybe. Or something of the sort.

I think I kind of shipped them when I was younger, because I figured duhhhh, of course the hero gets the girl.

Yeah like I told Sara, the "cute" R/H thing totally sailed over my head and I have to be constantly reminded of it for it to even register. The possibilities of crying children watching their parents argue can make for a very powerful (and common and canon) scene!

I shipped them...pre-GF, I think. *laughs* A long, long time ago.

I can't help noticing whenever I type "Rose and Hugo" because of...er, I don't know, the big R and H capitals are kind of glaring. Or something. Do you not know that very (canon) essence of Ron and Hermione's relationship is bitterness and swearing?

Me too. Like, back when I found this fandom the first time. I "left" for a while between... ...I don't remember. I think during the POA-GOF dryspell. And by "ship" I mean I figured the hero and the lead girl would get together because duhhhh that always happens in Disney.

Apparently I need big bold capital letters. Also I rarely connect the name Rose with Weasley anymore. Whatever, het is gross, all straight people want is marriage, babies and fences.

Awesome poll! I gotta admit I hate R/Hr, but I never really got on board with the H/Hr thing either. I always shipped Krum/Hermione, because Krum never had problems realizing his feelings!

You know, when I did my pre-DH epic series reread, I was kind of surprised by how sweet Krum/Hermione kinda was. Brief, but cute. And in OOTP she's writing to him all year! It's cute, idk.

LOL YES. And in DH he's totally still smitten with her. Aw, Krum, I liked you. I think part of that might be because on the GOF DVD extras the actor seemed really friendly, but still.

because when i wrote Lily/James I could write about Sirius? Which was really why I did it. And then I really liked third gen kiddies. But I never really got into the shipping wars of trio-era. i didn't care enough :D

When I read book 1 I kind of wanted everyone to die at the end of book 7 (no particular reason, just because). Therefore I couldn't have cared less about any ship except for pre-death Lily/James perhaps (and recently Severus/Lily when I'm tired/drunk/sentimental).

I... don't think the epilogue was all that bad (except that out of all those people the deatheaters only got a few. Voldemort you prawn.)

LOL I kind of wanted a huge death toll in DH too, just 'cause it seemed realistic. And then JKR did slaughter a fair number of characters, even if only a few were big important ones, so kudos to her.

Also, Lily/James is made of win.

Alsoalso, I didn't mind the epilogue either. I was just sort fo 'meh' about it.

Ahahah FAIL. I spent more time than should be admitted going DH,.. hmmm Dee Age... Doctor Hu?

Lily/James should've gotten an overpriced spin-off (and more interactive than "ghosts from wands").

To be honest a lot of the last one was disappointing to me, but there were good stuff as well, like it being better the second time you read it. It's great that JKR didn't write the ending too happy.

Lily/James was great. Before I was wasting my life writing Doctor/Rose, I was wasting my life writing Lily/james.

I liked DH, but I've only read it once, so I dunno, much of that read was clouded by my OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. Yeah I was huge into HP fandom once upon a time.

HARRY/GINNY FOREVER!! In non-capslocky reaction, I love the canon HP ships. I love all about HP, including the epilogue. In fact, I kind of adore JKR for giving us such a lear cut happily ever after ending. My only issue is not enough Ginny. IMO, H/Hr is nowhere in the books, though it can be argued the movie leans that way a little. OBHWF!! (I do not mean to offend with my clearly strong feelings)

The only qualm I have with Harry/Ginny is that sometimes I see icons and get excited because I think they are Lily/James. And then they are Harry/Ginny.

But yes, when it came to HP I was very satisfied with the canon ships because I was never in it for the ships and I liked that they took such a back seat to everything else. They were never about the romance and I loved that. That plus my ambivalence lead to a sort of "anything goes" attitude of mine when it came to ships, though I side with canon just... because I always have a hard time going against canon.

Lily/James was the only ship I cared about much though.
