doctor who series 7 new trailer

  • Well as always, Moffat Who is visually very stunning. That shot of them in Times Square gets me in particular. GORG. DOCTOR WHO LOOKS ALL GROWN UP AND SHOOTING ON LOCATION IN HD. WHAT IS THIS???
  • THEY DIDN'T USE "I AM THE DOCTOR"! IT'S A NEW TRACK. OR MAYBE JUST A DIFFERENT ONE. BUT HOOORAYYYYY.
  • Lots of emphasis on this trailer on explosions, and stuff, which fits in with Moffat saying it'll be 'big blockbuster episodes'. Unfortunately when I want to see big blockbusters, I go to the damn movies. So I didn't find that exciting, or interesting.
  • The "victims of my mercy" (including the Master's? interesting) and Amy telling the Doctor he gets weird when he travels alone too long in the Whithouse ep... I'm glad we're getting some of that character stuff (and lol unsurprisingly from Whithouse). But it didn't quite thrill me, I guess because it doesn't feel like Brand New Information. I felt a bit like "well Amy thanks for summing up Ten's arc for me". Oh well. I'll take it. And I'll definitely take it over Amy flailing a gun around like an idiot in the first trailer.
  • No1curr about Rory again, for some reason.
  • DINOSAURS!!! why did it have to be a Chibnall ep in s7 that gets dinosaurs? ugh
  • The last scene... I don't mind the last scene EXCEPT that they clearly want the iconic image of s7 to be Amy unconscious in the Doctor's arms, which, as Liz might say, barf me out. In the trailer it's not so bad, until you realize this is the s7 promo photo they're running:

    Greaaaaaat. (Also, so fucking hideous. BBC IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY AT THIS POINT. LITERALLY FIRE YOUR PHOTOSHOP TEAM BECAUSE THEY'RE TERRIBLE.)

So, there we go. Rumoured start date is now Sept 4 or whatever the first weekend in September is.

I WILL WATCH THIS WHEN THE OLYMPICS ARE OVER. BUT TY FOR POSTING IT SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO GOOGLE. lol.

I am really unimpressed by unconscious!Amy (a character who is ALREADY criticized for being passive). and hero!Doctor.

IKRRRRRRRRRR. If it was just a shot in the trailer I would wait for context etc to criticize it. But since it's CLEARLY the lasting iconic image they want for s7? Really? REALLY???
Christy Corr: Awkward.christycorr on August 2nd, 2012 05:56 am (UTC)
Oh, for Christ's sake, just hire Tumblrfolk to do your Photoshopping already, BBC. Anyone from the slash manip crowd can do a better job than that. Ugh.

IKR? I don't understaaaand! They could find someone on the internet to do it for free lmao why are they wasting money on the salary of whomever is responsible for this crap?

Ooh thanks for posting this, I didn't realize this had come out...

It makes me sad that DW didn't have this kind of budget back in the RTD era, because it sure is pretty.

Do we know what episode(s?) River Song is going to be appearing in yet, in terms of bracing myself?

And ugh I cannot believe they even showed this image in the titlecard/info shot like that, "iconic image of s7" seems to be right, unfortunately! :/ Seriously BBC, why?
Kali: dw :: amy :: the girl who waited_thirty2flavors on August 2nd, 2012 04:30 pm (UTC)
lol I only really knew because Tumblr was losing their minds over it last night.

And I know, right! IMAGINE HOW BEAUTIFUL THOSE SEASONS WOULD'VE BEEN. Booo.

River's in the last Pond ep, which is ep 5. I don't know if she'll be in any of the episodes with Clara. I hope not because I want the River story to end lol.

And ikr? It's so gross UGH BBC.
sherrilina: Arthur/Chicken (Merlin)sherrilina on August 2nd, 2012 05:53 pm (UTC)
With River I don't even understand why she would still be around, after Moffat made such a ~BIG DEAL~ out of how they were moving in exact opposite order and his first kiss with her was her last, etc...and then after she first meets him, she still keeps doing so? *rolleyes* Her story is convoluted because Moffat can't decide what to do with her and is inconsistent in his writing of her arc, not because we're too ~stupid to keep up.
Kali: eng :: words words words_thirty2flavors on August 2nd, 2012 06:04 pm (UTC)
lol they made a big deal out of her story being backwards but we already knew it wasn't from LKH and to be honest even the Library (because if it was exactly backwards, her last meeting wtih the Doctor pre-Library would be Ten, which LOLWTF why would Ten give a fuck). But yeah River's storyline is a hot damn mess. If it HAD been exactly backwards it might have been more interesting and stuff, but nope.

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty disconnected. Can we just skip to Clara already? I'm going to shove the Ponds out of the TARDIS myself.

ikr I'm laughing at how they went back to the RTD-era Daleks. Supposedly in 7x01 there's "every Dalek ever" but it sure did look like there'd be a big emphasis on the RTD-era ones lmao
anna_sg1: dw - tennat typinganna_sg1 on August 3rd, 2012 11:15 am (UTC)
yeah, i mean i saw a few red-ish ones but the prevalent color is bronze, like during the RTD era

also, just saw it the second time and realized I didn't even notice that horrible promo pic in the end

whhyyyyy

so stupid omg

with all those bright colors the Daleks kinda lost even that little tiny bit of ~scary~ they still had about them imo

I feel like they've been ripping off the bandaid that is Amy and Rory leaving one hair at a time so I'm just like FARKING DO IT ALREADY. I don't know. I tend to get my hackles up when I feel like Moffat is trying to manipulate my emotions so I'm probably not even approaching the trailer that objectively. I want to believe it's going to be a great series though, and I kept telling myself it couldn't possibly be worse than series 6. :ducks under a desk:
Kali: dw :: donna :: you are kidding me!_thirty2flavors on August 2nd, 2012 05:31 pm (UTC)
oh my god I KNOW JUST GTFO PONDS THIS HAS BEEN LIKE A YEAR AND A HALF IN THE MAKING OH MY GOD. I like them but LAWD they've dragged this out.

I want to think that at minimum s7 can't be as bad as s6. But I don't want to set a challenge for Moffat, lol.
callistawolfcallistawolf on August 2nd, 2012 05:44 pm (UTC)
EXACTLY. It's been like "bye Ponds, I'm leaving you for your own good!" followed by "here I am again! love me!" followed by "Goodbye for real this time!" followed by "Hi again, miss me?" followed by "I'm really gone this time... see, I DIED" and then we have "How about some Christmas dinner??" UGH. It's Classic Moffat. That guy is such a wanker, I want to go clobber him.

True story: I didn't like Amy much when I first watched series 5 and 6. I still don't. But then I saw several interviews with Karen Gillan and I'm like, "Man, she's adorable! Why can't they let her be herself on the show??" My husband feels the same way so I know it can't just be me. It's criminal, man.

The "victims of my mercy" (including the Master's? interesting) and Amy telling the Doctor he gets weird when he travels alone too long in the Whithouse ep... I'm glad we're getting some of that character stuff (and lol unsurprisingly from Whithouse).

I liked that bit. I'm mostly watching for those little character moments now, it's the only way I can enjoy Series 6. Like the plot gives me a headache, but the character stuff is good.

DINOSAURS. Ngl, I'm very excited for that episode.
Kali: dw :: doctordonna :: cheers!_thirty2flavors on August 2nd, 2012 05:38 pm (UTC)
The problem with s6 for me was that I didn't think any of the character stuff was good. I mean, in isolated episodes there was some stuff -- Doctor's Wife or Girl Who Waited -- but overall the ginormous terrible plot ALSO had detrimental effects on the characterization. So with series 7 I'd love to see more characterization and stuff, but I am worried that even if we do get stuff it'll feel like too little, too late. That's kind of how the "travelling alone" line read for me. We saw Eleven travel alone a-okay for 200 years in series 6. Trying to turn that into a thing NOW seems ...belated, much as I do like the idea that the Doctor shouldn't travel on his own.

I wish I could be excited for dinosaurs without also knowing it's a stupid Chibnall ep. STOP HOGGING THE DINOSAURS, CHIBNALL.
captaintish: Dr. Who -- Peruvian Folk Bandcaptaintish on August 2nd, 2012 06:03 pm (UTC)
Ah, yes, I see what you mean. The character moments I'm referring to are the little ones scattered throughout the episodes, just little scenes where they're interacting and such. That's the way I am able to enjoy Series 6, just looking at them as isolated episodes. Because there are too many problems with the series as one big arc. (Like Amy and Rory losing their baby and not being upset about it for more than the end of A Good Man Goes to War. You know how Amy started to blame the Doctor a bit? It would have been interesting, if heartbreaking, if that had carried through the rest of the season. But instead it kind of got forgotten.)
Austinjohnmayergirl23 on August 2nd, 2012 05:29 pm (UTC)
I'm clinging to that "victims of my mercy" line like a liferaft tbh

I really don't know how I feel about this trailer. Like, on the surface I'm all approving of the general shininess and adventure time. But these days character moments just piss me off because I'm like TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE NOT GTFO.

Lolling at how much prominence Rusty Daleks get, ngl.

And ugh at the continued carrying of Amy. GET OUT.
Kali: dw :: ten/rose :: applegrass!_thirty2flavors on August 2nd, 2012 08:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah and I think the other thing is that it doesn't feel like new information. I like the idea that the Doctor needs companions, but that was what Ten's story was about, and we haven't really seen any indication in recent seasons that this is still the case. To have Amy suddenly say it in s7 is like "wait, really, is that still a thing?" It's also interesting to me that it comes in the Whithouse episode -- his episodes are often the most reminiscent of the RTD-era, so to me the Amy line almost feels like a holdover from that era but in a weirdly out-of-place way now.

OH WELL I'll wait and see I guess, maybe the ep will be one of the rare awesome ones.
anna_sg1: dw - tenII rose heartanna_sg1 on August 3rd, 2012 11:45 am (UTC)
Like, remember when he spent 200 years all alone in s6 and no one gave a fuck??

why is the Doctor spending time alone a ~thing now?

IDGI

Eleven's characterization is all over the place sometimes.
Kali: dw :: amelia :: sulk_thirty2flavors on August 3rd, 2012 04:46 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I think what's ringing hollow to me about Amy's "this is what happens when you travel alone" line is that I don't feel like I have any reason to believe Amy would have that insight. The Doctor that she knows has picked her up and dropped her off and travellled alone loads of times, with no adverse affects. He travelled alone for 200 years and was exactly the same!

Rose, Martha or Donna saying that line would make sense, because part of their stories with the Doctor involved them seeing how much he needs people and seeing what happens when he's on his own. It's a lesson Donna learned in her very first episode. But that hasn't been emphasized the same way in Eleven's era, so having Amy bring it up now doesn't feel genuine. And it feels so far like Whithouse is writing based on what he remembers the story being like, rather than what the story HAS been like recently.

I mean, maybe stuff will happen in 7x01 and 7x02 to suddenly explain Amy's insight, but so far, idk.

DINOSAURS MAKE EVERYTHING MORE AWESOME. I will maintain extremely low expectations in the (vain) hope that they will be exceeded.

I was under the impression that Rory was a fairly popular character? IDK, the lack of Rory exposure is irksome, since it's supposed to be a Big Deal to have a married couple on the TARDIS.

I reeeeeaaally want to be excited by this. I do. So why does it feel like we've seen all this before? I mean, no, we haven't seen dinosaurs or whatever, and I don't care about it being NEW VILLAINS EVERY TIME because, hey, cybermen and daleks etc are part of the mythos but.... all this feels the same as what we've already seen. I wan to see this Doctor something beyond his shouty, confronty, arrogant self every time he's surrounded.

But, so long as they give us lots of Rory, I think I won't complain too much.
Kali: dw :: rose :: A CHAV!_thirty2flavors on August 7th, 2012 12:14 am (UTC)
I agree! The "seen it all before" feeling is really strong with this one. I think it's partly the Ponds? I like them btu we've had the exact same TARDIS team for 3 years now, coming off never having the same TARDIS team for more than one season before the Ponds. I'M SO TIRED OF THEM. If there was any Clara in here I think it would excite me but as it is I'm just like "god, haven't we done this before? Haven't you guys left yet?"
