I think she's going to be from somewhere other than 21st century Earth. There were ~rumors~ a while back that the new companion would be from somewhere surprising. Soooo. Yes. And having a non 21st century Earth companion would fit into Moffat's style since his companions aren't very grounded in their home lives anyway.

lmao I read somewhere that they're using Spain as Skaro? I don't know if it's true but LOOOOOL okay. I guess Reinette on Skaro would indeed be "the last place" the Doctor would expect or whatever.

I like the 21st century Earth girls, but I'm not married to the idea especially because like you said it's not like Moffat gave a fuck about making Amy grounded or anything anyway.

I would probably be the only one who would be excited to see Reinette again lol (FAVOURITE EPISODE COME AT ME FANDOM).

But yeah, the only categories where I could see them switching things up would be race (I wouldn't be surprised to see an Asian companion) or place of origin (I wouldn't be surprised to see a companion from outside of earth, or more likely from the past).

I don't even really have an issue with Sophia Myles or Reinette herself, but I think bringing back Reinette specifically would be awkward because of how GITF ended and also because I think a real historical figure being a companion long-term would be strange. But I wouldn't mind Sophia Myles. I think my preference is for a fresh face, but Sophia's fine. AND EITHER IS PREFERABLE TO BEN BOWDER AS JACK 2.0 like ONTD was suggesting yesterday.

They said something a while ago about her being from the "place you'd least expect" or whatever so I think she might not be an Earth girl this time. Which... is fine, I guess, although I don't really have a problem with 21st century Earth girls either so w/e. I would love for her to not be white, but I don't know how likely it is. I feel like they kind of operate on the Disney princess model, ie "well we already had one woman of colour so we're set for the next few rounds, right?"

The BBC has some weird instincts about their announcements. They wait until about 1 or 2 weeks before announcing a date for a Doctor Who premiere and now it seems like this Companion decision came out of the blue. Or has this been promoted at all in the last few days?

Will be looking forward to playing an Extended Bingo version of this whenever more information on the character comes out.
