Lion, Witch & Wardrobe prequel! oh wait.
There's a prequel for this year's Christmas special -- but it won't embed so click the link if you are curious.
  • lol I've written this fic!
  • The idea of him calling Amy for help and then realizing Amy doesn't travel with him anymore is kind of sad, like Ten talking to himself in PIC, but I think it's a great example of why this 200-year-gap thing is fucking stupid. After TWO HUNDRED YEARS he hasn't wrapped his head around it yet? This would be more believable if the time was much much shorter.
  • I have no idea what this has to do with the plot for the Christmas special. I suspect the answer is "nothing", based on the importance of the previous prequels. Like that one where Amy had emotions about her baby.

I so agree on the 200 year thing. I think it's best if we all just forget about that, I'm sure Moff will too.

Also, 'OH NO THE DOCTOR IS DEAD' is so boring as a cliffhanger. It was kind of interesting in The Impossible Astronaut because more seemed to go on and Moffat kept saying it was real (loll) but by now it's just getting annoying tbh.

Yeah "the Doctor is dead 4 real" is old, I don't consider it much of a cliffhanger. Hopefully this is just a prequel thing and not somethig the whole stupid episode will hinge around.
Hannahfirstofoct on December 6th, 2011 07:46 pm (UTC)
LOL I somehow doubt this will be as awesome as that fic.

I think I'm just going to head canon the 200 years thing away. From now on, I'm saying it was 6 months - 2 years or so. Done.

Please write that fic. :)

I just hate the idea that Eleven went 200 years without forming a meaningful or lasting connection with another person other than an occasional visit with River. I loved that Ten NEEDED people. Bah. that 200 years gap was so pointless. WHY WAS IT EVEN IN THERE? Well I guess the whole purpose was to hammer home the point that dead!Doctor was an older Doctor. idk.

How would he even be hanging out with River though, when he met her for the "first time" in LKH? Moffat hammers the idea of "they meet in exact opposite order, therefore their first kiss for him is her last"--despite the fact that it made no sense--but now he refuses to stick with that, making them meet even past him meeting her for the first time...*sigh*
Kali_thirty2flavors on December 7th, 2011 04:24 pm (UTC)
Omg, right? Ten's psycho meltdown during the Specials is part of what elevated the companions and the role of companions to equal importance to the Doctor. The idea that Eleven doesn't really need people but it's cool if they're there I guess is... meh. If he can go 200 years on his own and be fine, why should I feel that bad for him when he is alone?

Wait, has it been another 200 years or is this the original 200 years?

omfg the timelines of s6 are just so far beyond me it's not even funny. AND I COULD FOLLOW THE STONE ROSE.
Kali_thirty2flavors on December 7th, 2011 04:18 pm (UTC)
lol no. But he left them in TGC and then it was 200+ years, and then TWORS was like an alternate reality or whatever so it kind of didn't really happen SO it's still been 200 years since Amy last travelled with him in TGC. But apparently he still forgets.

Thing is, I can totally buy that after 200 years he'd still be all AMY! LET'S HANG because Ten was all YAY SARAH JANE. But like... to forget she isn't travelling with him? What? HAS HE HAD NO COMPANION SINCE THEN? I just can't buy it.

Maybe he meant a different Amy. Maybe Imogen Poots.

HEY YOU KIND OF REMIND ME OF THIS ONE CREEPY GUY I MET IN HS. HE WAS FRIEND WITH MY BOYFRIEND AND COMPLAINED ABOUT HIS PARENTS A LOT.
MV: wut?mrv3000 on December 6th, 2011 09:59 pm (UTC)
So what did he supposedly do during the 200 years? Did he still travel around? Play the universe's longest game of chess with the TARDIS? Complete his "One Billion Ways To Be a Douche" list?
Kali: misfits :: check me the fuck out_thirty2flavors on December 7th, 2011 04:22 pm (UTC)
Apparently he did nothing of consequence at all!

That is a LONG time to play Angry Birds.

Is the two-hundred year gap even mentioned anywhere aside from the Doctor's age in the Impossible Astronaut? I can't even remember, the whole timeline is so confusing, but maybe the Doctor lied about his age again. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Or maybe Eleven is going senile now that he's passed the thousand year mark.

It was a sweet scene though if you don't think about it too hard.
Kali_thirty2flavors on December 7th, 2011 04:23 pm (UTC)
Not really, it's just used as a set up for him being older and whatever. LOL SO DUMB. Good to know that in 200+ years the Doctor didn't meet anyone or do anything that changed him or made him develop or anything.
sherrilina: Arthur/Chicken (Merlin)sherrilina on December 7th, 2011 02:10 am (UTC)
The 200-year thing makes NO sense, the man has never lasted 10 years in a regen, how could he suddenly last 200?! *rolleyes* I still don't see where that fits in the s6 time line anyway, why Amy and Rory were off the TARDIS for a while, etc.

I think I need a research because I'm not remembering the 200 years thing. I thought the age difference between dead!Doctor and our(?)!Doctor was only 100 years or so? I still feel like we're going to find out what that was all about, but maybe it's wishful thinking. Perhaps he did have other companions, we just don't know about them? I'm trying to give Moffat the benefit of the doubt, but maybe that is not a good idea.</p>

Also, hello. I'm new to your journal.

Kali: dw :: eleven :: way worse than scottish_thirty2flavors on December 8th, 2011 01:57 am (UTC)
The 200-years thing is the gap between God Complex and Closing Time for Eleven. In TIA, Stetson Doctor says he's 1100-something, while the younger Doctor is 909 or thereabouts. The gap time between TGC and CT was apparently just spent hanging out with River (but before he married her...?) and "waving to Amy from history books" and stuff. I don't mind the idea of the Doctor spending some time alone, but there's a difference between, idk, six months to a year and two hundred years. The implication is that in 200 years, Eleven didn't EVER get any new companions worth knowing, or do anything significant enough to him as a person that we the audience should've seen it. I find it sloppy, since the only reason it was there was to establish that Stetson Doctor was older than No-Stetson Doctor in TIA. I would be very surprised if Moffat ever fills in those gaps, since I think he wants to pick up from the end of TWORS, where the Doctor is "dead" to the universe (which also makes no sense, but hey).

Hello!
Kaci: tv / trust me i'm the doctortodaysgoneby on December 8th, 2011 02:02 am (UTC)
Well, that's frustrating. I kept hoping there was something significant about the age gap, but apparently not. I still feel like there is something we don't know. Especially the Doctor in the God Complex. We see him finally complete the Rubix Cube (LOL) and also eating an apple (I thought they were rubbish?). I really hope Moffat goes back because there is a lot going on with the Doctor there than just getting it on with River. If not, I will be sorely disappointed in the series.

Ha somehow I missed this prequel but in light of the Christmas Special now it's just baffling. How the heck did he get out of that one? I don't get it.

And yeah him forgetting she's not there after 200 years is just silly and stupid.
