somewhere i have never travelled - HEY GUYS LOOK WHAT HAS A DVD AND A RELEASE DATE
gladly beyond any experience
BUT FEBRUARY, KALI. THAT'S TWO MONTHS MORE THAN I WAS MENTALLY PREPARED TO WAIT.
HEY MAN GIVE THEM SOME CREDIT
BEING BRITISH AND ANNOUNCING A DATE FOR SOMETHING OVER TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE MUST BE A TRYING TIME FOR THEM

KNOWING THE DATE IS USELESS. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS SO FAR AWAY.
NOT REALLY. I MUCH PREFER THIS TO THE VAGUE, CAGEY ANSWERS DIGITAL THEATRE HAS BEEN GIVING FOR LIKE 3 MONTHS NOW.
I PREFER VAGUENESS. I COULD PRETEND MY CHRISTMAS WOULD HAVE SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT IT.
PS: DO NOT DARE FIRST-WORLD-PROBLEMS ME. I ONLY SAW IT FIVE TIMES, OK.
I KNOW I WAS EXPECTING AN EMAIL BEING LIKE "MUCH ADO AVAILABLE FOR DL IN 2 DAYS!!!" BECAUSE THAT IS HOW YOUR COUNTRY WORKS LIRL.
THIS WAS MY GREATEST HOPE.
WHY NOT IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS?
BOOOO
I WILL STILL BE PURCHASING THIS THOUGH. Well actually since it is not Region 1, it might be more accurate to say that I will be illegally downloading it.

Same. Or I will find a cheap region-free DVD player.
All of these gifs are accurate descriptions of how I am feeling right now.
I have mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand -- YAY!
But on the other hand....... WHY CAN'T THEY RELEASE SOMETHING I CAN ACTUALLY WATCH?
I'm thinking of making my next DVD player a region-free one, but I have no clue about stuff like that.

Yeah I've been doing a bit of Googling as well, because there are a fair number of things that are only in other regions that I would own if I could (this, s3 of Secret Diary, Misfits, etc). The problem for me is that I do most of my DVD-watching on my computer and it sounds like that's the hardest place to get around region encoding, at least if you use a Mac. I'm wondering if my best bet is to switch regions on my old laptop and let it eventually become a glorified DVD player.
It might still be released digitally from Digital Theatre, though. I mean -- either way I'm sure the internet will provide for you, but I would absolutely buy this if I had a way to play it.

Yeah, I'm sure the David Tennant comms will come through, no matter what. But I would buy it in a heartbeat if I could.
Same thing with Single Father, I watched it when it aired, but I would love to buy the DVD.
On an non-David Tennant-related note, there's this Australian movie I'm dying to see, Tomorrow When the War Began. I read the books when I was younger and was very excited to find out there was going to be a movie..... until I realized it was a movie that would likely never make its way over here....

I think it's relatively easy to buy a region-free DVD player if you just want a DVD player you can hook up to your TV. I'm not sure but that's the impression I'm under. That might help me one day, but not yet, since I don't have a TV and I don't really want to watch s3 of Secret Diary on the tv in my parents' living room, lol.
LOL. Isn't Secret Diary available in the U.S?
S1 and s2 of Secret Diary are out. They never released s3 for some reason, which is my favourite. I WOULD TOTALLY BUY IT TO COMPLETE MY COLLECTION IF YOU WOULD LET ME, ITV.
Yaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!! I might actually get to see it!!!!
Although I would like Region 1. I guess that may be a pipe dream.
Yeah, me too. But I think the "official" thought process will probably be something like, "Why would Americans/Canadians want a DVD of a British play starring two people they've only barely heard of (if at all)" - which is a stupid thought process, because I think that the DVD would be more popular than they think, but whatever.

Yeah, I think it makes sense on the surface, although tbh I suspect a large majority of the people signing the petition (if it actually had anything to do with this, lol) were North Americans/non-Brits who couldn't make the trek. I MEAN, FINE, that's what the internet is for, but I'm not convinced the region stuff isn't actually costing the industry money. There's lots of things I would buy if they were Region 1, but they're not, so I download illegally instead.
I come back from an LJ drought and this is one of the first pieces of news I have read. And it is awesome.
YES! IT'S COMING TO DVD!!!!!
I don't care that it's region 2 because the Internet is such a wonderful place.... Although I do agree with your last pic. Give me Region 1 and I WILL GIVE YOU MONEY!!! What's so hard about that equation?

Yesss! It was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting to be a download thing -- though I guess that could still happen -- rather than DVD.
I'm sure the internet will provide for me regardless, but I would actually buy it if they made that feasible. YOU'RE ONLY HURTING YOURSELVES, GUYS. lol

I can't remember (as it was already a moot point by the time I cared), but did they do something like this for Hamlet? Did a region 2 release come before a region 1? Perhaps they're waiting to see how successful it will be before changing the damn code on the DVD to say "1". ARGH. IT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. TAKE THE MONEY! I mean...they are a "company"...right?! lol
Honestly I don't remember with Hamlet, but you might be right. I know PBS aired it a few months after the BBC did, and probably the region 1 DVD release coincided with PBS airing it. MAYBE PBS WILL AIR THIS TOO?
Are they going to make a region 1 DVD, 'cause that's where I live...?
Do you think region 2 plays on any computer?

I dunno if they'll make a region 1 or not, hard to say.
Region 2 won't play on your computer without some work-around. Depends on what computer you have how easy the work-around is, you can google it. You can also purchase a region-free DVD player if you want to watch it on your TV.
