I am up at
goldy_dollar's cottage for the weekend! Last night we drove through a crazy storm which seemed to last forever, but the weather here today was really nice -- nice enough that I am now quite burnt in various places. HURRAH. Most of my body sees the sun about once a year so I hope it enjoys this brief dose of vitamin D even if it means sunburns.
We also just watched Torchwood. I HEARD A REAL ACTUAL RADIO COMMERCIAL FOR IT IN THE CAR GUYS.
LOL, Torchwood. I liked this episode. I think the premise of this whole series is really interesting and sufficiently creepy (eeeeeugh the guy who exploded himself agghhhh) and tbh this episode basically lined up with what I was anticipating from the reviews. I'd read that some of the acting is a bit off at the start and it takes a while for everyone to settle in, so I'm hoping Rex becomes a bit less hilarious at times and we get a bit more depth from Esther, etc. I've been liking Esther though! I have all these hopes pinned on her based on basically nothing.
Oswald is creepy as fuck, oh wait sorry I forgot RTD is obviously ~glorifying pedophilia. I have no idea what happened in that scene where they decide to release him, I am pretty sure it would not have made any sense either way.
John Barrowman's attempts to not age are not really working out for him, IDK. Jack is never going to be my favourite character but he is at least good for a laugh most of the time. I grew fond of Gwen in COE and I really liked her here. Clearly I need the now-obligatory Gwen + Baby + Gun icon.
Lastly, this is a problem every time Torchwood gets really srs bsnss (so basically just... COE and now), but I do find myself loling a bit at the FATE OF THE WORLD resting on Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper while I guess a) Ten turns away in shame or b) Eleven frolics with the Ponds. I get that Martha and Mickey are probably on the world's longest honeymoon, but like, doesn't Amy have family who can pick up the phone and be like AMY NO ONE IS DYING WHAT IS GOING ON?Who am I kidding, Amy doesn't have family ties. Alternately, does this mean that if Donna ~remembered~ right now she could sort of hover in that state of remembering because she wouldn't be able to die? There could be a fic in there somewhere.
Anyway, BRING IT ON, Torchwood. I am curious to see where this all goes.
