When you find the answer let me know. I'm working on a fic for a fic exchange and ooomg. I'm about halfway done. I have the beginning and the end written, but I just cannot make the middle work. D:

My favorite thing to come out of the fixathon so far is the one with Four, K-9, and bbRose. SO PRESH.

UGH RIGHT. lol when we started posting this fic we had only 2 scenes left to write, and this last scene has now been sitting unfinished for a month because OMG I JUST HAVE NO IDEA. THE WORDS WILL NOT COME. I'm like a week away from "Rocks fall, everyone dies".

That one WAS precious!

Lol you could always have a Squadra break the 4th wall and memory!eat the reader, so then you could tell us that we read the ending, but just couldn't remember it XD

lol at this point that would be better than any ending I have even come close to writing, so why not.

Awesome! I would be scared to ever prompt something like that because it could go so horribly wrong in the wrong hands, but this turned out great.

I didn't want to be "in-your-face" about asking for a fic with Rose (since at times that comm can be a little defensive about her) which is why in the prompt I sort of buffered it and said it could feature Romana or Rose.

That fic was excellent though!

I really, really need to update my master list, because Eleven/River has taken over my muse at the moment, and I think I have more of them now than Ten/Rose. I can't help it, I love both ships.

The trick is to never promise anyone anything. And then when you do actually write something, it's a complete surprise to all parties involved.

I really want to write more stories with Rose and River being awesome together. I've seen some really good stuff come through time_and_chips including one a long time back where Rose encounters River while she's hopping worlds to find the Doctor and River helps her.

It just blows my mind how people can be so harsh toward them, but I've seen this before in another fandom. In that fandom, the main character was married for a couple of years, then his wife was murdered. Ten years later, he falls in love with someone else. It's actually a beautiful story and very touching when the first wife's murder comes back to haunt him and nearly gets his second wife killed.

But the fans of the two pairings are vicious toward each other to this day, even though there was no indication of any sort of hatred from the second wife toward the first. The only thing the second wife felt jealous about was that she couldn't live up to the ideal of the first wife (which is natural given the circumstances), but the main character dashes those. The second wife honors and respects the first wife's role in her husband's life and even goes with her husband to visit the first wife's grave before they get married and thanks her and pays her respects.

That's how I see River and Rose. I can see River telling Rose, "Thank you for loving him first."

That's a pretty good analogy, I think. I can't see River being bothered by Rose's existence at all -- I think if she was the jealous type her relationship with the Doctor would drive her crazy, and it's not even like Rose is still around to be a "threat". And while it's true Rose had a jealous streak, I think she's too busy with her Doctor to worry much about what Eleven is up to.

Yeah, I find the ship war mentality really baffling and off-putting. I mean, I get that fandom's natural inclination when it comes to love interests is some kind of epic cage match THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!!! type thing, but I think why it perplexes me so much more with River and Rose is that like, omg, they're not even on the show at the same time! They're not even in love with the same Doctors! There is literally no textual conflict at all! People who don't like Eleven/River can ignore it in their Ten/Rose fic just as easily as people who don't like Ten/Rose can ignore it in their Eleven/River fic. This fandom's unending desire to tear down other strong female characters in defense of their favourite is just the worst, and it always gets even more pronounced when shipping is involved.

River had a lot of chances to be jealous and never expressed any inclination. She showed compassion toward Donna. She treated Amy as an adult, even knowing that her mother will turn right around and snog the Doctor at the end of "Flesh and Stone." (And I'm sure that made for a lovely dinner conversation at one point in the Pond household.) I agree that the Doctor wouldn't have tolerated it, because it seems that River loves the Doctor the same way Rose does - she accepts everything he has been and ever will be.

I just hate it when people tear down both characters because Rose came from a lower class background and River's the daughter of Amy and Rory and knows everything about the Doctor (which makes sense given River's end of the timeline.) Neither one of them is a Mary Sue to me. Both have these crowning moments of awesome. I know for me, I always get a thrill out of seeing Rose reach beyond herself in "Rose" to save the Doctor. Her speech is amazing.

I am shocked that it's possible for fanfic writers to write both ships in the same fic. I'm really sick of the shipping wank, no matter where it comes from.
