6x03 the curse of the black pearl. i mean, spot.

I watched this with my friend Olivia as it aired on tv :O :O :O, which was fun but also meant I missed a few lines and explanation things here or there. My overall impression is that I liked it, and man did it feel nice to have a simple, contained, linear, easily-understandable plotline with a ridiculous explanation (lol computer nurse). It even made sense enough that I was able to figure out the "she's trying to heal them" bit before the text explained it, which suggests that there was actually a logical pattern. I'm not sure what was going on with the universe-inside-a-universe thing, but ...okay. Actually, that might be relevant again later, since Amy seems to be both pregnant and not pregnant and maybe it is a universe-collision thing.

So... pirates! I am glad we got an explanation for how Amy could hold her own in a swordfight -- no one else used swords! And everyone was afraid of cutting her! Makes sense. Ish. Rory's initial response to the Siren was hilarious lololol. I thought it was pretty funny when Amy stepped forward to Defend Her Man, and the Siren blew her backwards, and then everyone took a while helping Amy to her feet even though Rory was in more immediate danger since he was about to explode into dust.

I was less impressed with "OH NO RORY'S DEAD" because goddamn how many times can that boy die. Also my friend kept making jokes that made it hard to stay srs. Karen Gillan's distraught acting is getting better though, good job Karen. She seemed more legit distraught here to me than she did when Eleven "died" in episode 1, and I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. I'm okay with this because Rory is the bomb and Eleven has been sort of meh to me lately.

WTF eyepatch lady. I'm choosing to ignore this and the pregnancy thing rn since I know answers aren't forthcoming.

Um, I think that is it. I am curious for 6x04 and am going to try to avoid spoilers for it but that always proves more difficult than I anticipate. OOD. OLD TARDIS. TIME LORDS??

Afterwards Olivia and I waxed poetic about Ten and how flawless he was for like 45 minutes, so that was fun. I've been thinking I want to do a rewatch, since I haven't actually seen most of those episodes in a long time, but I am also thinking I should wait, or s6a will look so sad in comparison, lol.

RIGHT? There was abut 15 seconds where I was worried that Rory might actually die and I was going to flounce so hard if that happened.

But I too really liked having a straightforward, fun and uncomplicated story. I thought it was a fun episode, about on par with Vampires of Venice for me in that I might rewatch it occassionally, but it isn't going to be my ~favorite~ ever.

BUT I AM SO EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK.

OLD TARDIS. EEEEEEE!!! As fond as I am of the new Tardis design I am so excited to see the old familiar Tardis again.

I was just like "UGH GET ON WITH IT" because I knew Rory wouldn't die. There've gotta be other ways to create tension, man! Amy/Rory are cute though. I think I need to find some new Amy/Rory icons.

Yeah, it has been SO LONG since a straightforward, linear, uncomplicated story -- since The Lodger! THAT IS A LONGASS TIME and it was nice to have a breather from Moffat's madness. And like, "computerized nurse that appears from another universe and is trying to heal people who get injured" is so whacky that gave me that sort of "awww, Doctor Who" feeling I haven't had in ages.

OLD TARDIS! Episode 4 looks awesome. Ponds on the TARDIS omg!

I swear I'm becoming immune to Rory dying. I'd be shocked if he didn't kick the bucket a couple more times this series. :D

I know too many spoilers to be bovvered when Rory fake-dies in episode 3.

Also, I think Rory himself is immune to dying. *rimshot*

LOL YES that was pretty funny.

lol I don't think I am easger for this hypothetical special as everyone else. DNW Moffat writing Cloen or Rose.

I believe the writers like trolling people with Rory dying every episode.

What I don't get is how people still get worked up about it when it obviously won't stick. IDK.

I thought it was fun.

And then BBCA had an "Insider" where Moffat was like "If you can make the monster great. And if the monster is hot, awesome." and I was like "I HATE YOU SO HARD."

But Yay Rory! And I loved the end with the space pirates. Reminds me of space cowboys and don't judge me Firefly was the Rose to my Ten in terms of television.

It was so good to just have a fun episode without someone trying to go all wibbly wobbly timey wimey this really makes no sense when you sit and think about it on us. And I want that siren song. Stat. Because it was GORGEOUS.

UGH Moffat stop talking forever.

Yeah, this episode was just fun. Not amazing, but fun enough, and simple. PRAISE GOD it was so nice and simple. And linear. I see people in reaction posts complaining about various plotholes and it just makes me laugh. I MISS THE DAYS OF SIMPLE PLOTHOLES.

Yeah the kid was pretty good. I guess he gets to live forever on a mysterious spaceship now!

Omg the special effects in this one were hysterical. I am glad Doctor Who spent all their budget on the ship set.

TEN IS AMAZING. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE REWATCHING, KALI.

LOL It has been a while since I hung out with Olivia or talked Doctor Who with her and I was so pleased that she had all the right opinions aside from not liking Martha that much. At one point she mentioned how GREAT IT WAS that Rose and Cloen get to be together forever, lol.

I'm trying really hard to like ep 3. Well, the first 15 minutes were easy and I was all 'yay show you have returned to simple linear fun' but it got really really hard after that because of the weird characterization. AND THEY KILLED RORY AGAIN. Seriously? They need to stop trying to pull this off because it's getting annoying. What is slowly salvaging this episode for me how Karen and Arthur acted their hearts out, and watching Confidential with Karen being all adorable waving her sword around.

Afterwards Olivia and I waxed poetic about Ten and how flawless he was for like 45 minutes, so that was fun.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I feel like the only person on the internet who liked it! It might be because watching with Olivia is fun though, same thing happened with Beast Below last year. I liked Amy and Rory and the Amy/Rory, and I was alright wtih Eleven (a rarity lately) so that was all well and good. The plot was totally cracky and illogical, but that has never bothered me before and didn't bother me now lirl.

Rory's fake dying is so ridiculous. Everyone needs to stop fake dying. It isn't interesting, it's stupid.

LOL it was awesome. I always feel validated when people in the real world share my opinions on this stuff.
miracleofmercy: eleventh doctormiracleofmercy on May 9th, 2011 03:27 pm (UTC)
Maybe I had too high expectations of this ep, such that the cracky didn't work for me this time. Usual I can handle the crack and just find it amusing. :D :D :D :D

My expectations for this episode were very low, so maybe that's why I enjoyed it. I'm not into pirates and I didnt' like Thompson's Sherlock episode much, so I had pretty low expectations.

NO ONE'S DYIGN IN EPISODE 3. MOVING ON.
