THIS LOOKS SHOPPED
LOL LIVEJOURNAL

So I was talking to firstofoct on MSN and I mentioned that I have the Doctor Who s4 boxset sitting beside me and it struck me suddenly how hilarious Ten's face is in that shot. So I tell her this, and go to Google to find her a picture.

Anyway, we laugh about the posing and stuff for a second and then I realize... what the hell, he is not wearing the blue suit (or a white shirt) on my DVD. But otherwise, as far as I can tell, it is the exact same photo, including the hilarious posing and the weird hand positioning and comical facial expression. EVEN THE WRINKLES ON THE SUIT ARE THE SAME.

Kali says: NO WAY HE DID THAT TWICE
Kali says: THIS LOOKS SHOPPED LIRL
Hannah says: OMG
Hannah says: YOURS?
Kali says: NO IDK
Hannah says: KALI I AM LOOKING FOR A PIC OF THE BROWN
Hannah says: they're all blue on google
Kali says: omg it's brown i swear
Kali says: taking a picture brb

She is correct; they are in fact all blue on Google:

It is not a regional DVD thing either, because Amazon.ca, which sells the region I have, uses the blue photo. I took a photo to prove I am not crazy:

BROWN SUIT. BLUE SHIRT. and bad webcam.

After a few minutes of searching, Hannah confirms through the magic of Ebay that someone else owns this one. In the opposite region, apparently, judging by the "12" circle.

But I still do not understand -- are there two covers? Why? Which goes where? DID THEY LITERALLY PHOTOSHOP ONE SUIT TO LOOK LIKE THE OTHER? If so, which one is ~real~? Hannah thinks the stripes look wrong on the brown suit but looking at it in real life and not in a low-def picture I think it looks fine. And if they have someone that handy with photoshop on staff why do all their promos look like they were made in MS Paint????

SO MANY QUESTIONS. Does anyone else own this box set? What colour suit is he wearing? INQUIRING MINDS.

I actually feel rather warm and fuzzy right now, as the person I replied to actually apologised and we all held hands and sang kumbaya.

And then someone came in to once again link me to the "there is no canon in Doctor Who" meta and I don't have the energy to go into why it's not the canon inconsistency that bothers me, it's that this particular canon change makes a serious impact on the dramatic structure of a show about a guy with a time machine.

HOLY SHIT I AM ABSOLUTELY NO FUN WHATSOEVER.

Really? Well, complementary punch for everyone. Take it how you please.

This other person, see, can have punch too.

...Anyway, violence aside, I think that it (bearing in mind that we're talking about the same thing) was actually sort of placed in canon. Or, at least, the idea was introduced anyway. About time being able to be rewritten and whatever. Idk. I am of the opinion to remain without a solid opinion until season 6.

lolol *delivers punch/es*

The whole "time can be rewritten" thing bothers me. It just... does. Or it does when the end of the sentence is "by the Doctor." If the universe or fate or time itself wants to rewrite time, that's fine. But the last time the Doctor decided to rewrite time for his own ends, It Did Not End Well and was played as a symptom of his madness. But now he's Eleven and suddenly he can just do whatever he wants with timelines? How did this happen? EXPLAIN, MOFFAT.

My biggest, most no-fun gripe is that the Doctor being able to play fast and loose with time once he's already part of events makes it so that the logical solution to every problem is "Go back and have a do-over." There's only so many episodes of going back and having a do-over that can happen before that gets boring and predictable. and if they're not going back and having a do-over, then I'm going to be wondering why not, since it's apparently very possible and easy to do.
