So I was talking to firstofoct on MSN and I mentioned that I have the Doctor Who s4 boxset sitting beside me and it struck me suddenly how hilarious Ten's face is in that shot. So I tell her this, and go to Google to find her a picture.



Anyway, we laugh about the posing and stuff for a second and then I realize... what the hell, he is not wearing the blue suit (or a white shirt) on my DVD. But otherwise, as far as I can tell, it is the exact same photo, including the hilarious posing and the weird hand positioning and comical facial expression. EVEN THE WRINKLES ON THE SUIT ARE THE SAME.

She is correct; they are in fact all blue on Google:



It is not a regional DVD thing either, because Amazon.ca, which sells the region I have, uses the blue photo. I took a photo to prove I am not crazy:


BROWN SUIT. BLUE SHIRT. and bad webcam.


After a few minutes of searching, Hannah confirms through the magic of Ebay that someone else owns this one. In the opposite region, apparently, judging by the "12" circle.



But I still do not understand -- are there two covers? Why? Which goes where? DID THEY LITERALLY PHOTOSHOP ONE SUIT TO LOOK LIKE THE OTHER? If so, which one is ~real~? Hannah thinks the stripes look wrong on the brown suit but looking at it in real life and not in a low-def picture I think it looks fine. And if they have someone that handy with photoshop on staff why do all their promos look like they were made in MS Paint????

SO MANY QUESTIONS. Does anyone else own this box set? What colour suit is he wearing? INQUIRING MINDS.

(Have you noticed Rose's magic color-changing shirt on the novel graphics? Or she has the same shirt in lots of different colors. As teenagers do.)

OH BBC.

Mine is brown pinstriped too. The blue suited pic was actually a general series 4 promo pic. Though there is a similar Partners in Crime promo pic with the brown suit.

So it would seem that the base of that promo shot is what they used for the DVD. BUT.... that does not explain why they decided to turn the suit brown, or why half the DVD images show it as blue. HOW MYSTERIOUS.

LOLOLOL Yes, they do sometimes shop the blue and brown suits back and forth. See also, this promo pic:

That's totally the blue suit shopped to look brown.

Why they do it remains a mystery of the universe.

Also I am still wondering why the other cover of the boxset is floating around. Does a version of the boxset with the blue suit actually exist?

What I want to know is: did the BBC seriously have a full photo shoot and then look at that picture and think "yes, this is the one"? AND THEN APPARENTLY LOVED IT SO MUCH THEY PHOTOSHOPPED IT?

I have this metal case that has a honeycomb background with this image. But the photo on the DVD shows that the suit is brown instead of blue and the other weird thing is that their eyes are even looking in a different direction. I have no idea why they would want to photoshop the suit. But yeah, that's what mine looks like.

I don't hate the blue suit as much as everyone else does. But the way Cloen wears it, with the t-shirt, is pretty bad.

Either he did the same pose with both suits or it was shopped. He's wearing the brown suit on my DVD, but he and Donna are in a different pose.

It's the exact same pose though, like down to weird detail, so I think it must be shopped.

WEIRD. I didn't realize there were so many DVD cover options lol. I don't really like this pose. Donna hiding behind the Doctor like that is so comically inappropriate.

This is insane and hilarious....I've seen the blue suit version online so often that I could have sworn the copy I just got yesterday had a blue suit too, until I went and checked! O_o

I also never noticed before that Ten has the same "doing ~magic~" stance seen elsewhere on TV these days...

Hi, I'm a creeper that follows your "doctor who" tagged posts because they're hysterical.

However, I thought it was important to risk embarrassment through delurking to let you know that the suit on my DVD is totally blue. And I have the box set. Also, the twelve circle is also on the opposite side, and it doesn't have the hologram rings that your picture seems to. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN. </lurk>

I have the US boxset, purchased not during the initial release, and I've got the brown suit.

My biggest issue with the photo is, Why is Donna standing so that her legs are all scrunched up behind one of the Doctor's skinny legs? At least, that's what it looks like to me. I don't even think Catherine Tate and David Tennant were at that photo shoot together, I think they added Catherine Tate in later and didn't spend a lot of time thinking about how Donna would never stand in that weird way.

Yeah the posing of Donna is really weird, maybe they did just shop her in. lololol. It's not quite as eye-offending as the s3 cover, but it doesn't make a lot of sense in terms of character or... spatial sense.

Man, I hate everything about that pose. HIT HIM, DONNA. But I actually like the inner cover of the s4 discs because it's like Ten, Donna and Jack on one side, DRAMATICALLY RUNNING AND GRIMACING IN CONSTIPATED WAYS and on the other side it's Rose, Martha and Sarah Jane being like "guys... guys... chill, we got this".

(I think you should know I actually got out of bed this morning specifically to find the small set of steps and check my DVD box.)

When I was streaming s1-s4, that picture was the like... logo or w/e for Doctor Who, and I remember being like... unimpressed with Donna just judging by the photo. DONNA IT DOES NOT DO YOU JUSTICE.

Maybe they spent all their photoshop budget changing this one picture (it's very well done) and that is why all the promos are the way they are.

I've always just been a bit of a lurker on your Who related post but I had to pipe in here.

Mine has the brown suit too. I kind decide if it looks shopped or not. I wish I had a copy with the blue suit on it too so I could compare them in person because on screen just isn't doing it for me. I got mine off of Amazon, though? Idek.

it seems to me that it would be easier to turn the brown suit blue then it would be to turn a blue suit brown... i have no idea why though. it just seems that way.

Several days late here, but i bought my season four set
at Borders bookstore on Jan 2nd 2011.
Ten is wearing the brown suit. The inner cover has a big ass picture of
davros on it and the biggest picture on the back is a giant wasp!
