fic: world without you -- (eleven/rose, amy/rory)
Title: World Without You
Length: ~300 words
Genre: Angst (surprise)
Characters/Pairings: Eleven(/Rose), Amy(/Rory)
Rating: PG
Spoilers?: 5x07 "Amy's Choice"

Notes: Written for firstofoct's prompt Eleven sees Amy and Rory together, thinks of another couple at the Doctor/Rose Fix Winter Ficathon (which is still going on so you should totally go write stuff). I took a bit of liberty with the prompt.

Amy storms out of the cottage in Upper Leadworth with desperate conviction and the Doctor follows after her, a ringing in his ears and a lead weight of guilt in his stomach. If this isn’t the dream, he’s just got her fiance--husband?--killed. He’s fairly certain that makes him the worst imaginary friend to ever be, well, not so imaginary.

Thing is, she’s not even the first. Donna, then Sarah Jane -- really, he suspects it’s best for everyone that he wasn’t at the Smith-Jones wedding. Still, this is different, and possibly even worse. Rory wasn’t liaising with a giant spider or a faceless thing in a cloak. Rory was a good man who loved Amy Pond and now he was a pile of dust in the nursery.

Unless this is the dream, that is. If this is the dream, there’s still a chance, and that’s more than he could give Lance or Sarah’s husband. Amy’s convinced, based on nothing but heartbreak and hope. He knows she’s only so certain because it’s inconceivable to her that a world could exist without Rory Williams.

And he remembers feeling that way about someone, once upon a time. He also remembers fire and screaming and a brilliant ginger woman pulling him back from the edge. Maybe he should do that for Amy. She’s angry and she’s hurting and he gets that, he does, but maybe they should take a moment to think. After all, she could be pregnant.

But then Amy says, “I just want him,” and the Doctor knows what she means, so he presses the keys into her hand and says, “Okay.”

If this is real, maybe he doesn’t want it either. He wonders if he would have time to regenerate, wonders whether he would want to.

“I loved Rory,” Amy says, “and I never told him. And now he’s gone.”

Yeah, the Doctor thinks. I know the feeling.

Amy starts the van.

Commenting again to say how much I love this and that you wrote it for me. <333

I rewatched the scene the other night and I cannot believe I didn't make the connection until I read this, considering I was watching these episodes like a crazy for any throwback reference to s1-s4.

Eleven looks so sad and serious in this scene, it's actually quite odd.

Aw thank you!

I've had the last little bit here rolling around in my brain since shortly after Amy's Choice aired and then I kind of totally forgot about it until I read your prompt again, lol.

LIRL Amy's Choice is probably my favourite of s5 and I think it's because there's discussion of the Doctor being an angsty bastard.

The Lodger is my favorite, but I do enjoy Amy's Choice, but I haven't watched it since June probably. LOLOL you would pick up on the bit about the Doctor being an angsty bastard.

The Lodger is up there too, probably my second favourite. But Amy's Choice gave me such a, like, spasm of glee, idk it was like everything I wanted in an episode, it got me so pumped for s5. And then it was followed by the worst episodes ever.

Oh, hello angstbomb.

Very interesting perspective, contrasting the self-destructive urges of Amy and Ten. Not something I've seen before and it works well. Good fic!

LOL I just realized I didn't put any kind of genre warning on this. I guess I assumed that with my fic angst goes without saying..? lol I should edit that.

Thanks! The "loved him and never told him" line is what made the moment stick out for me, but as I thought about it a little more the other parallels began to emerge.

Haha if I thought about it at all I would have guessed that, I just saw it was you and that there was Amy so autoclick and lo there was angst! LOOK AT MY FACE THOUGH, IS THIS A BOVVERED FACE. I'M NOT EVEN BOVVERED, THOUGH.

it’s inconceivable to her that a world could exist without Rory Williams

Awww. But Amy was totes like that in AC.

And the Doctor is adorable. With his long life, I'd imagine almost every situation would result in mini-flashbacks, but this was so, so touching.

I thought Amy's reaction to Rory's "death" in 5x07 was really interesting. I liked that she just sort of shut down and refused to accept it.

Haha you're probably right. It would be hard to dream up completely original experiences after that long.

Thank you!

Mmmm, sweet, sweet angst. I ... kind of forgot how much I love Doctor Who. Whoops. Good thing it's almost Christmas!

The Doctor Who schedule does that, it's unfortunate. Maybe the split season next year is a good idea after all.

Thanks bb!

I read the warning as surprise!angst, as in the angst would be surprising to the people in the story. I'm not entire sure how that would even work, and the Doctor at least should know by now to not ever ever be surprised by angst.

Nicely done and mission:accomplished with the sad.

LOL LOL

I feel like that is some kind of challenge. I almost want to step up to the plate.

Thanks!

Haha I'm up to like 600 on another thing I started tonight. :O WHAT IS THIS MADNESS.

Aw, I really loved this. I like how he considers 'pulling Amy back from the edge' but he empathizes with her too much to be rational. Very nice ficlet.

“I loved Rory,” Amy says, “and I never told him. And now he’s gone.”

Sad right? But you go and add this:

Yeah, the Doctor thinks. I know the feeling.

D: D: D:

Your fics have a way of putting the cherry on top!

Ooh, this is lovely. A lovely insight into the Doctor's thoughts in that scene, that I honestly found gut-wrenching. If there was one episode in Season 5, that really had some good character stuff, it was that one.

I love this!
