two beavers are better than oneeee
I. Just watched last night's HIMYM, LOL Robin Sparkles. Omg SPACE TEENS solving crimes using math is genuinely something that would have been a kids show in the 90s, though presumably with less porn undertones. It would be on YTV. Oh Robin Sparkles. Internet, I expect gifs of the Canadiana parade at the end there.

lol the Lily pregnancy thing. I would be ready to kill her if I was Robin too. LOL There's this scene where they're talking to Glitter at the game (LOL YESS @ organist for the Rangers) and someone with dark hair walks by the doorway, visibly, so I was waiting for Robin to be all "I KNOW! I WAS LISTENING OUTSIDE THE DOOR" in one of those HIMYM-style retcons, but... nope. Oh well I accept all uses of the Hoser Hut.

I am glad this show is finding its footing again... though I thought the beginning of s5 was good too, and look how that ended. ALSO I guess this solves the mystery of whose wedding it will be in the series finale? Unless that is a curve ball, but probably not.

II. So a Radio Times poll named Rose as the most popular companion. That sound you hear is a thousand fanboys crying, but basically:

Naturally the first comment on the doctorwho post was "IF ROSE WON I'LL PUNCH MYSELF IN THE FACE". Hahahaha. W/e, haters gonna hate, etc. The remaining top 5 were Sarah Jane, Donna, K-9 (wtf) and Amy, in that order. Martha Jones was 11th which I find upsetting, though replace K-9 with Martha and the top 5 is good by me. Full results (all 40-something) are here if anyone cares and hasn't seen it yet.

III. Speaking of Amy Pond, Karen Gillan is going to be in some hilarious Shakespeare teen movie with some guy from Misfits and Dana Scully:

The actress has been cast as a New Jersey high-schooler who gets sent back in time to 13th century Verona and finds herself trapped in Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet.

Gillian Anderson will play Gillan's mother and a nurse in Verona, while Misfits actor Robert Sheehan is the school nerd who becomes Brittney's Romeo.

NGL my primary questions right now are a) does that mean she is done after s6? and b) but how does her accent compare to David Tennant's? shinyopals, clearly the time is ripe for our movie.

I will say though that I always sort of laugh when people are morally outraged by Shakespeare adaptations like this. I'm not saying this movie is necessarily going to be any good, but if he is rolling in his grave it is with laughter and not outrage.

IV. Aaaand rounding things off with a meme:

Give me a character/pairing from a fandom and I'll tell you
* why I love them
* my favourite moment
* my favourite quote
* my select song for this character/pairing (lol pre-emptively reserving the right to skip this one)
* my head canon for this character/pairing

Sorry for the comment spam XD ... re Karen Gillan, I would be very surprised if she comes back after s6. The BBC seems to like to "keep things moving" by introducing new characters on a regular basis to keep things fresh. Having a 3rd season with the same ole crew on the TARDIS might be a turn-off to new viewers, so I think she will be gone before s7.

which would make me sad :( but yeah, i agree.
Kali: dw :: amy :: goodbye_thirty2flavors on November 17th, 2010 02:10 am (UTC)
I feel bad but I am actually hoping she (and Arthur Darvill) do leave, because I want to see Eleven with some new companions and because I want there to be some actual tension in this finale. If I know every main character comes out alive-enough to do another season, some of the dramatic tension is lost. If I know Amy and Rory are leaving, there's still suspense that something COULD go wrong, even if in the end they only leave to live happily ever after and make babies. I like Karen, but I'd be looking forward to some fresh blood if we got it.

fauxkarenfauxkaren on November 17th, 2010 12:56 am (UTC)
WHATEVER WHATEVER. I WILL STAN K-9 ENOUGH FOR ALL YOU HATERS. lol. Seriously though. He and Four had the best friendship ever. They were hilarious.

Amelia Rumford: I still don't understand about hyperspace.
The Doctor: Well, who does?
K9: I do.
The Doctor: Oh shut up, K9!

The Doctor: Couldn't I just take K-9??
The White Guardian: K-9 is a mere machine.
The Doctor: [shouting] He's a very [his volume decreases] sensitive machine! [whispering] Sorry, sir.

K9: Suggest you allow Mistress to make contact.
The Doctor: Nonsense! Making contact with an alien race is an immensely skilled and delicate operation. It calls for tact and experience- what would she know about it?
Romana: Excuse me...
K9: She is prettier than you, Master.

And they share scarves and play chess and then when the Doctor realizes that he's going to lose he conveniently pilots the Tardis so it has shakes enough to knock over the board. lol.

I laugh too when people get up in arms about Shakespeare adaptations. Personally I love 10 Things I Hate About You as an adaptation of Taming of the Shrew. And I love Baz Luhrman's take on Romeo and Juliet. Besides at the time it was created, Shakespeare was just popular entertainment. It wasn't this high brow nonsense. Shakespeare isn't that serious.
Kali: eng :: words words words_thirty2flavors on November 17th, 2010 02:26 am (UTC)
K-9 sort of cracks me up -- I alternate between finding him funny and finding him annoying, I think what I liked most is how damn excited by him Ten/David Tennant's inner five year old always looked lol -- but I MEAN... MARTHA. K-9 could take 6th place from Jack, I'd be okay with that, but I am sad that K-9 outstrips Martha.

Besides at the time it was created, Shakespeare was just popular entertainment. It wasn't this high brow nonsense. Shakespeare isn't that serious.

exactly! Plus he was all about taking other people's stories and retelling them and adapting them. I mean, some of the movies do suck -- I can't deal with She's the Man -- but some of them are fine. Also, Lion King.

fauxkarenfauxkaren on November 17th, 2010 02:50 am (UTC)
LION KING. D:

I honestly have not watched that movie since I was about 8 or 9 because it upset me so much as a kid. Simba tries to wake Mufasa up! And then he crawl's underneath his dead father's paw!

SO MUCH PAIN AND SADNESS.
Kali: dis :: omg omg omg omg_thirty2flavors on November 17th, 2010 02:59 am (UTC)
I have a gif of that exact scene but I will be kind and not use it... FOR NOW.

Lion King is the best Hamlet ever though tbh.
fauxkarenfauxkaren on November 17th, 2010 03:07 am (UTC)
I was really sensitive to movies when I was a kid. lol. I couldn't watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame because I'd cry when the towns people were making fun of Quasi, but he thought they were really cheering for him. And then they tied him up and threw food at him! It made me SOOO SAD. And I couldn't watch the climactic battle scene in The Little Mermaid either because of the scene were Eric impales Ursula with the bow of the ship. So I'd have my sister fastforward through that. So as far as I'm concern that movie goes straight from the sea animals storming the wedding ship to King Triton giving Ariel legs. LOL, And Snow White and the Seven Dwares was pretty much a horror movie, imo. I mean the scene in the woods where the trees are terrifying! The stepmother turning into the witch and then I think she dies by falling off a cliff or something. Idk. There is thunder and lightening.

Basically, Disney is terrifying.

also: re your last entry that i am now too lazy to comment on: candy cane ice cream? is that actually a thing?!

HIMYM is getting so good now. THE BEAVER SONG. Ted & Barney trying not to laugh, awwww. but wait, what do you mean: ALSO I guess this solves the mystery of whose wedding it will be in the series finale? Unless that is a curve ball, but probably not.

whose wedding do you think it is!?

I do as well! I wish Martha was higher but otherwise I have no complaints. And while I would personally rank Donna (and Martha) before Sarah Jane, I appreciate Sarah Jane's status as Most Epically Loved Oldschool Companion Ever so I am cool with her being in second spot. I mean she has a spinoff and everything, lol.

YES AND IT IS DELICIOUS! It is like vanilla ice cream with streaks of peppermint and chunks of chocolate.

Well Ted's friend Punchy asked Ted to be his best man, so logically it could be Punchy's wedding.

Oh speaking of which: Rory for your meme!
Kali: dw :: rory :: trust the plastic_thirty2flavors on November 17th, 2010 03:19 pm (UTC)
Yeah I feel kind of bad about it but I want them to leave, lol. The show will need fresh blood after two seasons of the same TARDIS team.

Why I love him: I think I latched onto Rory so much because he fit the RTD mold of companion in a way that Amy Pond didn't, as the ordinary guy thrown into things and learning to keep up. He also calls the Doctor on his shit, worries about the random people they encounter (helping the girl who's been attacked rather than running after her attacker, for instance) and I think he keeps Amy and the Doctor, Adrenaline Junkies grounded.
My favourite moment: I like the parts in Vampires of Venice where he starts calling the Doctor out, and the "you have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves" bit. Amy hadn't been doing a lot of that and I missed it, especially after a season of Donna.
Favourite quote: "the only thing uglier than you is... your mum... you big... Spongebob..." or whatever the line is. LOL Rory. It was also when I was like LOL RORY YESSS. I mean he used a your mom joke to save Amy. That's hilarious.
Song: Two Birds by Regina Spektor seems pretty Amy/Rory to me
Head canon: HMM. I guess I have head canon in the form of scraps of fic I've never finished. Here's one: he gave Amy the necklace she wears every day, when they were younger and his grasp of "nice jewelery" was not so great. She teased him for buying a necklace but has worn it every day since. It was one of the "traces left behind", though neither the Doctor nor Amy knew that at the time.

YEAHHHHHHHH ROSE. I would have ranked Donna and Martha higher, but it always pleases me when the general fandom gets it wrong about Rose so I remain smug.

NGL my primary questions right now are a) does that mean she is done after s6? and b) but how does her accent compare to David Tennant's?

a) I SORT OF HOPE SO?? Does this make me terrible.

b) I am not sure it could be worse?

Well yeah my personal top 5 would be different -- well it would basically be like "ROSETYLERMARTHAJONESDONNANOBLE .......um... ..................Rory?" -- but I'm relatively pleased by the top 5 as-is. If Martha waas #4 instead of K-9 I'd be happy. Sarah Jane isn't my personal favourite but I appreciate her status as Most Beloved Classic Companion. I wonder if at the time there were all these disgruntled fanboys being like WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE SARAH JANE SO MUCH SHE'S SUCH A MARY SUE UGH.

a) lol I hope so too ngl. I like Karen, but I want fresh meat.

b) LOL TRUE

Well they could use other tv shows as well, but... no one is. LIRL

Why I love him: I think my Matt Smith love sort of bleeds into my Eleven love and it is hard to pick them apart, but mostly it's because I find Eleven so absolutely hilarious. Like... The Lodger is one of my favourites. Amazing. Also one time he beat a Dalek with a wrench, and I would like to see more of that. Give him a touch more emotional trauma and we're good to go.
My favourite moment:
Favourite Quote: IDK. What first came to mind is that moment when Craig finds the... umbrella... device... thing and Eleven tries to cover it up with "It's... art! A statement on modern society! Oh, ain't modern society awful?"
Song: Yeah... no.
Head canon: Ummmmmm. He clearly took Amy/Rory, Martha/Mickey and Rose/Cloen to a couples' retreat.

I. I adored last night's episode of HIMYM. I flailed so much when Barney was all, "IT'S ROBIN SPARKLES THREE, Y'ALL" and the title sequence went. I have so much love for the Robin Sparkles episodes.

II. Rose Tyler FTMFW. And that's all I have to say about that without being all IN YOUR FACE, HATERS.

rosetylerwinsatlife

III. I think by the end of s6, I'll be ready for ~fresh meat on the TARDIS. Maybe that will mean young!River will be a full time companion? That could be interesting/awesome if she continues to (slowly) get on my good side. I have a bit of a shipper butthurt over her still, ngl.

IV. Because even though you've probably done this a million times before - Ten2/Rose.
Kali: dw :: cloen/rose :: bow chicka bow wow_thirty2flavors on November 17th, 2010 11:08 pm (UTC)
I knew it was a Robin Sparkles episode but I still enjoyed that part. And omg when Barney rhymes off all the reality tv show lines? Amazing.

YEAHHH.

Same. I like Amy and Rory well enough but I want to see Eleven with other people. I'd heard rumours that River was going to be the companion in s7 but I think those were just speculation, who knows. I have no shipper butthurt over River because I don't really care who Eleven shacks up with, but I want her mystery to be solved, so I'd be okay with getting that out of the way, lol.

Why I love them: WELL I mean I shipped Ten/Rose pretty hard, but then JE happened and I accepted pretty quickly that Cloen/Rose was the best possible ending, all things considered. It's a bit bittersweet, sure, but the ship itself was always bittersweet and I don't think it would have been any better if Rose had stayed with Ten -- she still would've withered and died and he'd've lost it in the process anyway, and anyway he might have regenerated on her at some point and I don't think she'd be thrilled about that either. Cloen and Rose having matching lifespans is sort of the optimum solution.
My favourite moment: lirl well they don't really have many moments together in canon, soooo I suppose it has to be the kiss!
Favourite quote: They don't have many quotes either! Kudos to Cloen for actually saying "I love you' though. lol, Ten.
Song: I don't really have one, honestly. SOMETHING BY SNOW PATROL?
Personal canon: No babies. I can't see the Doctor wanting them, I can't see Rose caring one way or the other (so when he didn't want them, she'd be fine with that), their lives are hectic (in my head, anyway) to raise children but they wouldn't want to slow down, the Doctor has too much angst, they're too selfish to want to 'share' each other like that, etc.
