Day 02 - Your Favourite Classic Who Episode

Okay here is where I get kicked out of fandom:

I do not have one. I have seen a grand total of one complete Classic Who serial -- it was Sarah Jane's first, there was a Sontaran, and that is all I remember. I found it generally quite dull with the exception of one or two moments, most of which related to the Doctor being a wang. I've read the Wikipedia pages of most of the characters who interest me, and I don't feel totally oblivious to the earlier canon.

Left on its own, my desire to watch more Classic Who is at about zero. However, every time someone makes a fandomsecret about how they JUDGE ME for not being a REAL FAN because I just like the new series, or someone at doctorwho gets uppity about calling s5 "s5" and not series thirty-something, or someone talks about how Classic Who was so much better, or about how all the things I didn't like about s5 are what makes it SO GREAT because it's LIKE CLASSIC WHO, my desire to watch drops by like 5 interest points.

So currently my desire to watch more Classic Who is at like -9000000. Most days, the only reason I want to watch any Classic Who is for the possibility to use concrete evidence when I talk about why I like New Who so much better. Fandom, I blame you.

In the meantime, I'll be over here being a DIRTY HEATHEN who only likes New Who and ships Ten/Rose and swoons over David Tennant.

OMG THAT BB IS TOO PRESH!

Anyway, I think that as long as you know the canon, you don't need to watch it. I'm interested in watching Classic Who, but I know not everyone can deal with the bootleg costumes/special effects, inconsistent writing, and confusing plots.

Yeah for me it's the writing more than the SFX and stuff -- that is actually a selling point of hilarity for me more than anything else. (I do genuinely enjoy watching Star Trek TOS for the lulz, for instance.) And I mean, I dunno, I'd say I have a general understanding of the larger aspects, and I know (of) plenty of the companions and all the Doctors, so I guess basically I feel like my work here is done. If I was going to be writing fic about it, that'd be different, but... I'm not, lol.

Classic Who has tons more plotholes and retcons than you can even imagine. In addition, the setup often leads to stories that drag on endlessly and end with a mediocre conclusion.
