this post is mostly about doctor who. universal order has been restored.  
1. My dad is in Sweden on business right now. His email on the matter says, "Everyone speaks english here & landscape looks a lot like Canada." DON'T MAKE IT SOUND SO EXOTIC, DAD.

Who am I kidding, I am totally jealous. I even sent hysteriagalore a stupid email that was like "HEY WE HAVE SOME OF UR MONEYZ LOLOL SO COOL LOL~" and I assume she turned away in shame.

2. I had been previously informed by bazcat89 and miss_mishi that it was pretty good, and I must say I was impressed by them actually acknowledging the plot line that they seemed to have dropped like a hot potato. I sort of liked the Robin-was-secretly-upset angle and hey, we got to see Barney be marginally human again! Hurrah1 Though to be honest I still would've liked to have seen any inclination at all that Barney was at some point even for like, five minutes, upset once before he returned to being one-dimensional, but clearly I am asking for miracles.

Having said that I am still sighing impatiently through the Robin/Don shenanigans.

3. So shinyopals mentioned that in one of the Doctor Who comics or something there's a bit where Donna leaves a video goodbye for Ten. Upon learning this my reaction was a mix of glee and outrage at HOW DARE THIS EXIST WITHOUT ANYONE TELLING ME UNTIL NOW! Anyway the scans are huge so I didn't want to look at work, but I got all excited by this tidbit and started planning a fic on the bus home and everything... only to actually look at the scans and learn they are basically the animated version of my fic. So... humph. Fine then, comic book person, be that way, I guess I won't infringe copyrights tonight.

4. Matt Smith is officially hilarious, which moves him up a lot in my estimations, though to be fair he was never particularly low. How can you resent a man who loves Mini Eggs, I ask you. I am getting more and more impatient for s5 to just start already. COME ON.

5. Most of you have probably seen this already but for the few who may not have and will appreciate it: lol 80s David Tennant lol

It is pretty much the way my posts usually go, Olympics and year-long hiatus notwithstanding. JUST WAIT UNTIL WE START GETTING CANON AGAIN, lirl.

Enjoy. I think the inexplicable Tennant video is my favourite. Or Matt Smith saying Karen Gillan is "very beautiful, mad as a box of cats".

LOL YES. The interviewer is sort of bizarre, there's an entire passage that is basically like "THE INTERNET HATES YOU. HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?" I suspect Robert Pattinson can relate.

Omfg I KNOW. I don't even know what it is, lirl. If it's a PSA it's the worst PSA ever.

I tried reading the comic but, whoa, tl;dr, so I skipped down to the bottom which *WIBBLE*

In my head, Ten heard "find someone" and was like "LOL LOL.... no." And then stepped out of the TARDIS and onto Mars.

lol I skimmed a lot of it but read enough to notice my fic was irrelevant. IDK comics are so awkward. Especially ones with art of questionable quality. but DONNAAAAA D:

Also friend S sent me a FB message saying I should watch this week's HIMYM, but I was skeptical. I mean, I had a pretty good flounce, so IDK if I want to go back. But I'm encouraged that you liked it?

HMMMMMMM. About 3/4 into the episode i was like "maybe I should tell Frances to watch this"... but by the end of the episode I was kinda like "ehhhh, maybe not".

It was still pretty good, and did deal with some of the things that had been pissing me off, but there are things it could've done to be better, and the writers are still kind of on notice from me. They have until the end of the season to get it together.

I defer to your better judgment. Also I am not sure one episode where Barney is a human being again makes up for... the rest of the season.

Yeah.

Basically what happens is while Barney is on another elaborate quest to seduce someone, Robin has a date with her obnoxious cohost whom Marshall adores, but then she cancels at the last minute. So Lily winds up telling Marshall that Robin only just got over Barney and they do this whole retroactive canon thing where they show a bunch of clips of Barney being a douche from previous episodes followed by Robin leaving to go cry etc etc. And they tell Ted and Ted is also like "what? I thought she was fine!" etc so the three of them go to confront Barney. He feels bad and goes to apologize to Robin for accidentally becoming 1-dimensional again. She asks him not to sleep with Chick He's Been Seducing and he doesn't, and in the meantime he sets her and Cohost Guy up on what Ted calls a "superdate".

Which was all pretty good, but half-way through the episode I was really hoping they would do the "secretly upset!!!" thing with Barney too, and have him be all 'yeah it sucked that is why I hve been sleeping with everything that moves'... and then they didn't. Because... you wouldn't want too much character development in one episode, I guess. Plus Barney's issue has never been that he doesn't care about his friends, confirming that he likes Robin as a friend is not the same thing as confirming she wasn't just ~the latest in a long line~, which is what she was upset about in the first place.

Also I think I'm supposed to ship Don/Robin by this point but I totally don't.

HMM, that does sound vaguely interesting. IDK why it took them this long to get there, but okay fine.

Man it's so mysterious to me that after a year of building up that Barney loves Robin, the writers have dropped it so completely. It really does seem to be this attitude that womanizing!Barney is somehow what the audience wants and needs and just... ugh.

I haven't seen any Don yet, but he sounds like an obnoxious douche bag tbh.

Yeah I don't know why it took them so long to get there either. The retroactive canon thing was actually pretty well done (in most of the scenes in the previous episodes we'd already seen Robin leave, we just didn't see her crying) but... still, wtf.

I think that is basically what happened, but it's really poor writing. If they never planned to make him anything beyond a womanizer because ~lol it's so funny omg~, they shouldn't have bothered; I probably wouldn't be as irritated by womanizer!Barney as am I now if the show hadn't been promising me something more for like a season and a half. I mean, it could be true that womanizing Barney appeals a lot to the casual viewer, but even still, if they never planned to develop him further they shouldn't have pretended like they might.

He was really obnoxious when they introduced him, and now they want me to see him as this great guy that Robin ~deserves~ and I am just kind of like... why did you bother making him so obnoxious, then? Like there's an entire multi-episode arc about how he doesn't wear pants to work because he doesn't give a shit about the job, and after several episodes when he is finally dazzled enough by Robin his big gesture to her is to...wear pants. .......Um.

Plus in this episode he did literally nothing except phone Robin once, but we had Marshall going "OMG HE'S THE BEST GUY EVER OMG" and it was really telling without showing, idk. Candice is pretty sure Robin and Don get married but I am not sure that is actually what Future Ted said.

That scene in the gun range had actual emotional content and it was just like WHAT THE FUCK

I mean before the show returned to bang bang bangity bang, of course.

Yes it was dangerously close to character development and continuity. It should've reminded me why I like the show in the first place but it also just reminded me how far the show has fallen in recent episodes. Hopefully this is the start of some kind of rehabilitation.

Goddamn you now that song is stuck in my head.

that knee kick (if that is even what I should call it - knee spasm?) at the beginning is especially good

also NPH's face is pretty awesome (no pun intended) in this gif and I think this might even be Barney development. At least a little bit.

Yeah it is. IDK, this show can do character development, they've done it before, they just need to... not.. abandon it in favour of crappy jokes. It better dazzle me by the end of the season to make up for dismaying me for most of it.

LOL I THINK HE DOES. i used to have a history teacher who played banjo because, in his words, "all the other guys at school were learning guitar to pick up women, so I took up banjo". it was funnier because his wife taught me French at the same time, and the day he brought in his banjo she was lieke "oh god my husband brought his stupid banjo to work today ughhh"

DOCTOR WHO!! Three weeks on Saturday! I need to see it now, Matt sounds more adorable by the second. Though that journalist was a bit of a douche with his LOL SMALL CHILDREN HATE YOU angle.

...And that's an odd advert for trying to get people to not smoke. In fact all I get from it is: GET THE MONEY TO SMOKE OR YOUR PEERS WON'T LIKE YOU.

YESSSS I am very excited. I pretty much approve of anyone who makes me laugh, and practically everything Matt Smith said in that interview had me cracking up. I want to make "that would be an error" happen.

However yes rofl the journalist. "PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET THINK YOU'RE UGLY AND YOU MAKE SMALL CHILDREN CRY. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS?"

LOL I DON'T EVEN GET IT. If it's an ad why is it so... ...it doesn't even end with any kind of "DON'T SMOKE" text or anything. And the chick who doesn't smoke just gets made fun of.

Oh 80s fashion. And his accent is so heavy - I'll admit I couldn't understand some of what they said lol.

LOL ME TOO. The Mini Egg thing cracked me up.

On the bright side, the non-smoker has some pretty rockin' pants.

LOL there's that one line where the chick in the leather jacket says something like "he's so _____" and it makes me laugh because it's like, between the low sound quality and the accent and the fact that she's probably using 80s Scottish slang, I just have no hope of understanding what she's saying.

1. I am sure you turned away in shame just as much over my tale of Nils and the tomte(gnome). Although fantastic now you can come here and almost feel at home, I saw three elks (or moose if you'd rather be ~American~) walk across teh field infront of my house this morning.

3. WHY HAVE I MISSED THIS? FOR SHAME.

4. I am loving on Amy and Eleven/Smith so much right now. HUZZAH. (Did you see that magazine spread Karen did? Gorgeous!)

1. Are elk and moose seriously the same thing? If they are you have just blown my fucking mind. I mean I knew the were similar, but...

Oh also I read the whole Wikipedia page on Nils so I have to ask. HOW MANY PROVINCES ARE THERE IN SWEDEN? Because it kept being like "in chapter 84 he goes to blah..." and I was like "chapter 83?"

I blew up on an American once because he claimed that we stupid Europeans always say we have elk in Sweden when actually we don't, we have Moose. HOWEVER seeing as we're taught British English here Elk really IS the same as Moose. Boo-ya!

The British English name for Alces alces is elk, with cognates in other Indo-European languages, for example elch in German and łoś in Polish.

Confusingly, the word elk is used in North America to refer to a different animal, Cervus canadensis, also known as the wapiti. Except for its much larger size (it is the second largest deer species in the world), it is almost identical to the smaller red deer of Central and Western Europe. Presumably early European explorers in North America called it elk because of its size.

2. I...don't know lol I only know I live in Västra Götalands Län but that we have like regions within that province and so forth.

3. I love how the comic closely follows the same staples as the series, that is "fanfiction IS canon".
