The worlds of art, music and culture intersect at Art Basel in Miami, but sometimes the synthesis isn’t quite so smooth. Art dealer and collector Jeffrey Deitch bumped into Sean “Diddy” Combs at the booths and mistook him for Kanye West.
Witnesses said Deitch, the former director of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, had an awkward moment when he walked up to Diddy at the Art Basel hub, the Miami Beach Convention Center, on Wednesday.
One said, “Jeffrey said, ‘Hi, Kanye . . .,’ then immediately realized he’d made a mistake, and looked absolutely mortified. There was a moment while everybody held their breath, then Diddy burst out laughing. He took it really well.”
Deitch, who has relocated back to New York, where he plans to produce big art shows geared to a broad audience, confessed Thursday he got his rappers confused, but said it wasn’t entirely his fault.
He told Page Six via e-mail, “There was a big crowd gathered at the entrance to an art fair booth. I asked the dealer what the commotion was about and she said, ‘Kanye is here.’ I could only see the person from the back, and went over to say ‘Hi Kanye’. To my great embarrassment, it turned out to be P Diddy. He thought it was very funny, especially since we had spent several hours together visiting my street art show in Los Angeles.”
Meanwhile, Kanye himself was making his own impact by appearing at Surface magazine’s Design Dialogues to discuss art, architecture and design with architect Jacques Herzog moderated by the Serpentine Gallery’s Hans-Ulrich Obrist.
Describing himself as “considered to be prodigy at age 14 in Chicago,” Kanye talked about his youth as an artist, attending art school, before he realized that “my paintings were music . . . I would paint music because I could see it.”
Kanye also went on to describe how design changes people’s lives, saying, “I am not speaking out against other rappers here, but nobody needs a watch anymore. Even those who have a watch check the time on their iPhone.”
LOL. Have you guys ever been mistaken for someone famous?
How do you solve a problem like a boorish, overly snarky Twitter feed? By hushing the haters with huge numbers.
Facing off against 100-percent original broadcast competition throughout its entire three-hour run, NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! on Thursday night put 18.5 million total bums in the seats (as they say on Broadway), while scoring a 4.6 rating — NBC’s best non-sports Thursday demo delivery since the April 2009 ER finale.
Save for its opening half-hour against the always formidable Big Bang Theory, SOML at least doubled the total audience of the night’s 11 other broadcast programs.
TVLine readers meanwhile gave the production an average grade of “B-.”
NBC notes that, unsurprisingly, the top local market among the metered market households came from Oklahoma City, in female lead Carrie Underwood’s home state.
Whoever made that stupid fake tweet lacks respect to the loss the world is mourning right now. Same goes for all the blogs who ran with it.— Paris Hilton (@ParisHilton) December 5, 2013
Gross! All Paris does is try and spread messages of positivity and self empowerment on twitter. Buy Good Time on iTunes!
"My first reaction was, 'Well that was stupid,'" the 21-year-old said with a laugh and continued by reiterating some of what she said in her tweet about the interview. "But we are always going to be in each other's lives. I was with Nick [Jonas] today and they are family. I've known them since I was 14, 15 and I have a lot of love for them."
When we pointed out that Joe's frankness took guts, Demi showed her respect for it.
"It really did," Demi nodded in genuine agreement. "He never shared his side of the story and what he had to go through when we were friends or whatever. I was like, 'Choose your words more carefully next time, but whatever, you're fine!'"
Although there was some shock value, most of the feedback Joe has received since the interview hit has been positive.
"You know, it's been cool," Joe told omg!. "I feel really blessed to have people responding in [a relatable] way. It makes me feel great, it makes me feel comfortable and at the end of the day it's my story. Take it or leave it, if you don't like it, it's fine with me, I don't really care!"
( joe saying words or whateverCollapse )
In fact, Demi is currently working on a memoir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, which digs even deeper detailing her struggles that no one ever knew about. "I just have so much to say," she told omg!. "I have so much built up that, like they said in 'Mean Girls,' it's word vomit. Things come out. It's uncontrollable. Luckily that's why I will have different edits."
The gorgeous "Neon Lights" singer joked with a smile: "So Joe better beware."
Demi and Joe hung together the bash, presented by McDonalds, proving one dating myth wrong: You really can be friends with an ex.

Jay Z recently vowed to stick to a plant-based diet until Christmas Day.
And by the looks of it his wife Beyonce is supporting husband Jay Z in every way except for her wardrobe.
Whilst accompanying him to Native Foods in Westwood, Los Angeles, on Thursday for lunch, Beyonce wore camouflage jacket with fox fur collar.
The singer was wearing a £2,915 Christopher Kane wool-blend parka with real fur collar, which would have no doubt hit a bum note with any fellow Vegans dining at the restaurant.

Fashion faux pas aside, the mother-of-one looked effortlessly stylish as usual, teaming the coat with quilted tracksuit bottoms and platform ankle boots.
The Holy Grail hitmaker wrote on his Life and Times Blog on Tuesday: 'Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you've found the way.'
'On December 3, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a plant-based breakfast everyday. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought.'
He added: 'It just feels right! So you can call it a spiritual and physical cleanse. I will post my progress. Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please!
'I don't know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We'll see. P.S. B (Beyonce) is also joining me.'
On Wednesday, it was reported that former Felicity actress Keri Russell was home alone during a nighttime burglary. That led to speculation about why Keri’s husband and their two children weren’t at the residence during the 3 a.m. break-in.
Apparently trying to stay ahead of the rumors, Keri’s rep confirmed to People that Keri and husband Shane Deary separated months ago: “They have been separated since early summer… The separation is amicable and their focus is on their children.”
Keri and Shane married in 2007. They have 6-year-old son, River, and 23-month-old daughter, Willa.
As for the burglary, Keri was awakened by the break-in noise, but never encountered the invaders. She called the police and officers were quickly able to apprehend the suspects, and uncle/nephew team, who were robbing a neighboring house at the time of arrest. Even though Keri’s surely bolstering her home security after the scary incident, robbers should also pay heed: Keri probably picked up some self-defense skills by playing a bad ass KGB spy on The Americans!
ONTD: Who should Felicity have ended up with?
I'm not sure how many people found the clip the day the release date was reported...Enjoy!
Her inner monologue scene dialogue is awesome. :D
