Reality is a product of perception which is our own unique way of gathering information, each with varying levels of efficiency. We have no true way of determining what is real as we are not directly connected to reality, but our brain is attached to proxy senses that feed us information we must decipher into sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch... easily any of these senses can be faked. It is no wonder that this is the progenitor paradox of life, a practice in the art of futility, to question how something can exist that already exists, obviously exists, yet we are clueless as to how. I find myself equally puzzled when I question my very existence and wonder if I existed before I was conscious of it. Must I exist if I am not aware of my state of being, to un-be is to be unconscious of an external reality, or is it simply to exist by being acknowledged to exist by something else perceiving us.
