[14 Oct 2008|02:22pm] |
recently, while out reading, i walked between a mirror and a blog and, startled, saw my doppleblogger and myself becoming indiscernable as we stretched toward infinity. even our differences refused to serve as the kind handholds i expected would help me climb back down into individuality, instead acting only as slippery, shifting, sickening proof of the floating foundation of predilection. and yet this reflection in whose eyes and lines i see mine and the abyss of sky-- she is not so by chance, but by affection, held in common. what better to be cornerstone?

Just after posting about being alone, my ex best friend, ex precisely because we haven't been talking, contacted me with what bloomed into a long conversation. He makes me smarter, funnier, more interesting. (If only he could make me skinnier and to care about my schoolwork...)
And my other absent best friend is going to come back to visit soon.
Things. Even when they change they stay the same.

I wouldn't say I'm depressed. First because that's way too drastic. Second, depression has to do with being sad. I'm not really sad. I'm just -- lower. I'm less interested in my schoolwork, and also in socializing. I'm less physically active, less community-engaged, etc. It's not like anything is terrible; just that things were supposed to have gotten better by now, I was supposed to feel less lonely or more interested or more interesting. It's not even bad, it's just not as good as it should be. I wish I cared about my schoolwork because then it would be easier to do it. I wish I were doing something for my birthday on Saturday because then it would be something to look forward to rather than kind of regret.
But that's silly. And I keep saying this, but, it's good to want to graduate. It's good that I want to move on. (It's better to have loved and lost, it's better to have loved, it's better.)

I got a Betta from the table at the Parents' Weekend brunch the other day. He came with some pellets in his bowl so I went to Wal-Mart and got Betta pellets. But he's not eating them and I'm getting really worried.

The London-based street artist Banksy presents a number of fascinating tensions through which to study street art as social action. He is able to use the geography of the city as a mise-en-scene for social critique, combining recognizable images and symbols into new statements and placing these in unexpected—but highly visible—places in the city. Banksy’s highly recognizable work has become quite famous internationally, in no small part for its social critique, which has both proponents and detractors. In August, Banksy painted several pieces in the city of New Orleans to commemorate the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, causing bloggers and graffiti enthusiasts to sing his praises. But the paintings beg several questions. Can graffiti serve as public discourse, as Banksy claims, or does it alienate its target audience by being perceived as property destruction? Banksy seems to have overcome this problem in England, where his graffiti is considered art, but how does crossing national boundaries change the way his work is perceived? Additionally, how do new media such as blogs and internet news change the process by which Banksy’s work is understood? Can street art, which relies so heavily on location both in terms of immediate placement and cultural relevance, be effective when made by a cultural outsider?

i love saves the day so much and i don't even care that it's possibly the lamest band ever.
despair could ravage you if you turn your head around to look down the path that's lead you here, cause what can you change? you're a vessel now floating down the waterways.
the nice boss was at work today.... it's a nice day outside and i want to go for a run but i have to go to the SLC by 6 and i don't have time to shower or anything like that. so i guess i'll just chill in my underwear on facebook listening to saves the day. great substitute. maybe i should make a dinner because i'll be at the slc from 5:30 to 9:30 at least.
