Drink & Draw "ART" Show & CBLDF Benefit Sale This FRIDAY @ 8pm!!!
WHAT:
For the past couple of years we've been doing, in conjunction with the Jackpot Saloon, a series of DRINK & DRAW events, where people come in off the street and imbibe copious amounts of alcohol whilst making drawings that range from cute, confusing, and creative to racist, misogynistic, and purely infantile. Most of the offending artwork was done tongue-in-cheek, as we always have a "theme" contest that seems to bring out the dirty-and-awful-minded in many of us! That said, we're taking the cream of the crop from these shows and displaying them all along the walls here with a reasonable price attached. All other drawings will be found throughout the space, placed in bins, and going for a couple dollars a pop! All of the revenue generated by the event (through sales of "art") will go to the COMIC BOOK LEGAL DEFENSE FUND (keeping porno- making comic creators out of jail since the 90s...)! So, help us help others that have run afoul of the moral majority by buying our completely amoral "artwork"! We'll also have artists on-hand MAKING art, including Astrokitty's very own Joel Pfannenstiel, who will be drawing "soul caricatures" for $3 each!

WHEN: Friday, October 17th, starting at 8pm and running until MIDNIGHT!

WHERE: Astrokitty Comics & More in Lawrence, KS! Located on the corner of 7th & New Hampshire, right above the Java Break (across from Borders)

HOW: Just come on up that evening! It's an 18 & up event (do NOT bring your kids, plz) that is free to the public! Bring money, though, so you can buy pieces from $1 and up to benefit the CBLDF! Call us at (785) 856-8607 for more info! Also, feel free to visit http://www.astrokittycomics.com

DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!!! :)

Camerabag for iPhone
Just started using the iPhone app Camerabag

Cameabag for iPhone

this app mimics certain styles of classic cameras, pretty cool.
It actually makes the iPhone camera semi-usable.

Before:

After:

Basically it does some simple iPhoto style effects right on the phone.
For $2.99, not a bad app.

Ludwig von Mises
In Interventionism, An Economic Analysis (1940), Ludwig von Mises wrote:

"The usual terminology of political language is stupid. What is 'left' and what is 'right'? Why should Hitler be 'right' and Stalin, his temporary friend, be 'left'? Who is 'reactionary' and who is 'progressive'? Reaction against an unwise policy is not to be condemned. And progress towards chaos is not to be commended. Nothing should find acceptance just because it is new, radical, and fashionable. 'Orthodoxy' is not an evil if the doctrine on which the 'orthodox' stand is sound. Who is anti-labor, those who want to lower labor to the Russian level, or those who want for labor the capitalistic standard of the United States? Who is 'nationalist,' those who want to bring their nation under the heel of the Nazis, or those who want to preserve its independence?"

What have you been up to?
someone recently asked me what i've been up to since high school.

so i said:

i went to college as an art/english major on a soccer scholarship,
dropped out after 3 years to go on tour with a ska/punk band
ended up touring full time more or less up until now
along the way:
i was in a band, became a professional photographer, became a high school teacher, got married in vegas, got that marriage annulled three months later, moved to a little hamlet by the sea beach town in northern california, meet the Neuman girls (the loves of my life), worked in the nerd farm at the santa clara district attorney's office, worked on the Westly for Governor campaign, went back to college and got a business degree, worked at a bar, and am now out on tour with Leonard Cohen.

So i guess that happened.

But at the end of the day
i really don't have anything to show for it
i don't really "do" or "create" anything
Ayn Rand is laughing at me from the grave...

Possible Meetups- Disneyland on 11/8 and lunch during AP Event on 11/9
As far as I know, no one has organized any meetups during the Angelic Pretty Yumemiru Musical Paradise event weekend. It seems to me (and it's possible things are still going to be announced) that the only thing that is planned for Saturday is the Boutique. So I plan on going to Disneyland that day. Are there any other girls that are going to Disneyland that day who would want to to meet up for lunch and pictures in the park?

On Sunday the concert is from 10am-noon and the fashion show is from 1:30-4. Would anyone be interested in grabbing a quick bite to eat together during the hour and a half intermission and/or going up to the top of the hotel to take a stroll through the japanese gardens and some pictures (since we're not allowed to take any during the actual event)?

Make-Believe Maverick
Make-Believe Maverick
A closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty

by TIM DICKINSON

When McCain was not shown the pampering to which he was accustomed, he grew petulant — even abusive. He repeatedly blew up in the face of his commanding officer. It was the kind of insubordination that would have gotten any other midshipman kicked out of Annapolis. But his classmates soon realized that McCain was untouchable. Midway though his final year, McCain faced expulsion, about to "bilge out" because of excessive demerits. After his mother intervened, however, the academy's commandant stepped in. Calling McCain "spoiled" to his face, he nonetheless issued a reprieve, scaling back the demerits. McCain dodged expulsion a second time by convincing another midshipman to take the fall after McCain was caught with contraband.

Optimism.

“Optimism.” Volume seven in an ongoing series of digital mixes. Compiled by Joey Gee, October 6th, 2008.

As a new season has come (my favourite one of all to boot), a new digital mix must come to too. Maybe it was the rain, maybe it was the girlfriend being at work or maybe anything: this one is a little weird. But I love it at this very moment and I wanted to pass it along before I hate it. As always, let me know your thoughts!

SF-Night time

After my freezing walk along the beach I still had time to kill so headed back to the Palace of Fine Arts and walked around the lake again.

Then I was off to find the resaurant we were eating at, The Slanted Door. On the way I found a creepy spider statue.

SF-Globes on the beach

I thought I had a great idea-walk over to Crissy Park to have a picnic on the beach, while I watched the sunset. I was not prepared for how cold and windy it was. So I ended up just lugging around a giant bag full of blankets and food for no reason. Although I was plesantly surprised to get to see some art afterall. As I got closer to the actual beach I saw a giant painted globe, much like the 'Hearts in SF' Colin and I went around taking pictures of a couple years ago. So I set out on a little adventure along the beach towards the Golden Gate Bridge to take pictures of all the globes. Each one was decorated by a different artist, with some sort of "save our planet" sort of message.

SF-Palace of Fine Arts

Our DSL is being a bitch right now. It only works about 20% of the time. So most of my internetting had been through my phone. Which is SO slow, too damn small to see and autocorrects things incorrectly- making me sound like a dislexic, engrish spouting spaz. You know, more so than usual. ;) Lovely. I also can't upload pictures on my phone so these are oldish. So were the past few posts. Hoping to get Colin to fix the internet soon.

Anywho, these are from a few weeks ago when I went up to San Franicsco by myself. The plan was to get up early and spend the whole day up there, starting with a trip to the SFMOMA. That didn't work out. As I'm getting ready to leave Colin calls me from work saying that his one tire is completely flat, again and since he has to go to school straight from work he needs me to take his car to the shop while he's at work. Lame. By the time I was done with all that I didn't get to SF until around 3:30 and it seemed silly to go to the museum for just an hour. So I went to the Palace of Fine Arts instead.

I stopped at a veiw point on the way up there.
