| Not today Mr Asdown. |
[20 Aug 2008|03:01pm] |
Now the footswitch on my Ashdown Fallen Angel amp has never worked properly, unfortunately I’ve never been in a situation where I had the time to send it back to them to get fixed/replaced so it’s been the odd bit of DIY soldering to hopefully alleviate switching issues. So today I decide to give Ashdown a call and ask for a price on a new footswitch. Thirty nine of our British pounds they are, that’s almost eighty US dollars, or over ten percent of the original price of the entire amplifier. Me thinks there most be another cheaper solution.

| The problem of buying decent pickups on e-bay |
[16 Aug 2008|10:15am] |
So I thought to myself, £30 for re-wind on a pup I already have or buy a second hand JB from e-bay. So I go have a look on the bay and JB's are still going for £30+ (not forgetting P&P) in the uk. For those in the states that's about $60. It really does take the mick.

how much should i expect to spend on a telecaster?
i know the price range for them but i don't know at what amount i would say "That's just too little." and at what price i could say "I could spend [so much money] but it wouldn't get me that much more than if I just spent [this much money]." and i really can't spend that much. i'm hoping i can get a decent one for about $400. i mean, if not, that's OK. it'll just take longer. but i'm hoping.
i'm also looking to either replace my practice amp or repair it. it's an Epiphone i got from a family friend whose daughter played guitar for about a minute sometime in 1994. it got the job done for a few years but now it's pretty much shot(or the insides are, anyway). i have to turn everything on the amp and the guitar all the way up to get any sound and i still feel like i can't hear it over the actual strings of my guitar(if that makes sense). it's been like this for a couple years. i just haven't had the money to even think about doing anything with it until now.
also, i'm looking into pedals but i've never actually bought pedals, so i'm not really sure what i'm looking for. i love distortion and overdrive and all that. right now i'm mostly looking for something that will give the guitar i do have right now a fuller sound. like i love the way my Epiphone sounds with everything turned all the way up, it's just you can barely hear it.

Rage Against the Machine "bulls on parade" |

Moog, known for their synthesizers, have released a guitar with infinite sustain.
"Here's Moog's full run-down on each of the guitar's modes:
FULL SUSTAIN MODE - like no other sustainer; infinite sustain on every string, at every fret position and at any volume. You may have heard sustain before but not with this power (we call it "Vo Power") and clarity.
CONTROLLED SUSTAIN MODE - allows you to play sustained single or polyphonic lines without muting technique. The Moog Guitar sustains the notes you are playing while actively muting the strings you are not playing.
MUTE MODE - removes energy from the strings, resulting in a variety of staccato articulations. The mute mode has never been heard on any other guitar; the Vo Power stops the strings with the same intensity that it sustains them. You feel the instrument transform in your hands.
HARMONIC BLENDS – use the included foot pedal to shift the positive energy of Vo Power in Sustain mode and the subtractive force of Vo Power in Mute mode between the bridge and neck pick-ups to pull both subtle and dramatic harmonics from the strings.
MOOG FILTER - control the frequency of the built-in, resonant Moog ladder filter using the foot pedal or a CV Input. "
"The special sauce: strings that have "a specific metallurgy designed to work with the Moog pickups." Marketing manager Chris Stack told Listening Post, "the pickups are simultaneously listening to the strings and controlling them."
Man, I'd love to see what Tom Morello could do with one of these.

| Kramer Project first practise |
[15 Aug 2008|10:02am] |
Well the new guitar had its first proper outing last night. Was an odd practice as our rhythm guitarist is on honeymoon atm and it was first practice without him, which meant I had to concentrate more on my rhythm work as well as singing. ( More ) All in all a success, but having a Kramer with one pickup, a Floyd and one volume control did not suddenly make me sound or play like Mr Van Halen :)

| 200 Guitarists at once? Sweet. |
[15 Aug 2008|12:55am] |
For those of you in the New York area, I (and 199 other guitarists) will be performing Rhys Chatham's "Crimson Grail" tonight (Friday.) Here's some more info if you're interested, and be assured that it will be quite an intense experience:
"Next, composer Rhys Chatham and section leaders John King, Ned Sublette, David Daniell, and Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family) lead an oversized orchestra of 200 volunteer guitarists and electric bassists in the world premiere of A Crimson Grail for 200 Electric Guitars (Outdoor Version) performed not on the Bandshell stage but along the sides of the audience at Damrosch Park, to heighten the work’s polyphonic effect. The work, originally composed for Paris’ famed Sacré-Coeur, has been extensively revised to suit the dynamics of the Park’s outdoor acoustic."

| Just a bit of set up... |
[11 Aug 2008|12:00pm] |
It always amazes me when I receive a second hand instrument that has obviously been quite well used that they almost always seem to be pretty much at factory settings as far as set up is concerned. The two basses I have were both pretty battered when I bought them but neither of them seemed to have had even the action lowered, never mind truss rod adjustment or intonation.
I am getting to quite like the Warwick Rock Bass five string I got last week mind, although a new set of strings wouldn’t go amiss.

Arsis - Failure's Conquest |
] |
Hey everyone. I'm having some home recording problems and I need some help!
My recording setup is currently a Behringer V-amp 2 going straight into my computer's Line In input, and I'm using Audacity.
The problem I'm experiencing is that whenever I record anything, Audacity is automatically adding a fade-in to the new track. I have gone through all of my preferences, and I'm not seeing where this is an option, so I don't know what the matter is.
Also, whenever I'm done recording a new track, Audacity is automatically moving it as well.
Are there any other5 open-source recording programs out there that work better than Audacity?
