| | tired | ] | Just back from taking the dogs for a walk carry in the park.
The four of us got to the far side of Highbury park, having encountered numerous other dogs to play with, turned around and started walking back through the park to head home.
Except after about 30 seconds Bambi sits down and decides she's going nowhere, accompanied by some pitiful crying and, when I crouch down to see what the matter is, she asks to be picked up....
Further checking yields no obvious injuries, but she's clearly not happy.
Trying to encourage her to come with me and the other 2 dogs by a gentle tug on her lead caused her to flop rather pathetically forwards onto the grass, causing an elderly couple who were passing to give me death stares and grumble between themselves.
In the end, I relented and decided to carry her. Not easy with 2 other dogs running circles around me on their leads!
About halfway back, I bumped into nyarbaggytep and Dan off to do some filming.
Much thanks for taking the time to give me a second opinion guys, as I was starting to feel like I was being taken for a chump by a little dog that was just feeling a little tired.
We're home now and she seems mostly fine, but a bit subdued.
Hopefully she'll be back to feeling fine soon! |

| | warm | ] | Overall? I enjoyed it .... apart from the last 5 minutes which seemed contrived and needless fluff.
Christian Bale is pretty good, but nothing different to what we've seen from him in Batman etc. Still, it's fits the John Connor character nicely.
There's a good many nods to the first 2 terminator movies. Not gonna say what they are, you'll have to watch for yourself. We (went with a bunch of other people) also noticed a number of scenes very reminiscent of Aliens.
Worth seeing certainly.
The consensus seemed to be that it was not as good as T1 or T2, but way better than T3. :)
Then again, some of the people I saw the movie with had the temerity to dis' Highlander & Mortal Kombat! Heresy! |

[Feb. 7th, 2009|11:32 am] |
Technically I guess, as there have been Dragonball video games and the cartoon series itself is partially based on a video game iirc.
Dragonball Evolution Trailer - Live Action movie.
I dunno, maybe it's just me (and remember I love the Mortal Kombat movies) but it looks worth watching. :)
Oh btw, did I mention it has: * Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi (the typical old-dude who trains the kid in training montage of awesomeness) * James Marsters as Piccolo (the evil, alien kung-fu dude) ? |

| | Games Geek | ] | It's only in the last couple of years that movies based upon comic books have gained any sort of credibility. Head back to a few years ago and anything involving Hollywood and super-heroes was laughed at before even looking at the details.
Video Games are still in the, "Getting laughed at," stage of movie credibility, with Uwe Boll largely responsible for continuing that trend. He turns promising franchises into shit that shouldn't be on the screen. He sucks. This post isn't about him though.
No, this is about just how many video games are currently at least in pre-production for movie treatment. To name and link some of the more famous games that are linked to movie production:

The International Earth Rotation andReference Systems Service has announced that a leap second will be added on December 31, 2008at 23h 59m 60s, meaning that this year will be exactly one secondlonger. The last leap second occurred Dec 31, 2005, they are added dueto fluctuations in the rotational speed of the earth. You can read all about leap seconds on Wikipedia."
Interestingly further reading shows that some countries around the world just plain don't believe in this, so haven't been using them, meaning that the official time at any given place in the world might or might not differ from UTC by a multiple of hours, but a few seconds as well. Not a problem for most people, but confuses the hell out of various precision computer systems, especially those in the comms industry that need to understand this to measure the time taken for data to get from a to b! |

Hell, there were even a couple of twists (well one major one really) that I totally didn't see coming.
Noticed that about a third of the trailer isn't actually in the movie, heh. |

| | creative | ] | So, lots of people I know have posted the book meme, in various incarnations, listing 100 books and you say whether you read them or not.
Yay. Well, no. Sorry, I'm from the video game generation. My stories are told through epic battles of pixels.
So, ladies & gents, I present to you the same meme, except I have taken Yahoo's list of the top 100 games of all time (even though it's a bit Nintendo heavy for my tastes). Using _tonylee_'s adapted rules. Yes, there are lots of games that probably should be on the list but aren't, same as the book list. I didn't write the list though. ;)
1) Look at the list and bold those you have played. 2) Italicise those you intend to play. 3) Underline the games you LOVE. 4) Strikeout the games you played but didn't like. 5) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read only 6 or less and make them read.

Ah, a few days, that's ok then. Besides, Judgement day has been and gone.
I remember being at a LRP event, in a field in Derby and my watch alarm went off. Person next to me asks why my alarm went off. "Judgement day," I replied. Seems the machines didn't take over the world and nuke us after all.
Now, in case you hadn't heard, for the last few years Britain has been working on an intelligent communications satellite array. This system is designed and financed by the private sector and will be able to oversee military engagements anywhere in the world, allowing us to do such things as operate remote robotic drones with artificial intelligence, in dangerous war zones.
Cool.
What have they called it?
SKYNET.
I mean, aside from any potential copyright issues, I don't get how ANYONE with a straight face can name this system Skynet.
Manager type: "Ok guys, we're building a global communications system, with artificial intelligence and robots and stuff, what do we call it?" Techy (sniggering): "Dunno, maybe Skynet?" Manager: "Hey, nice idea, good name! We'll use it!" Techy: "Uh, no, wait a mo ....."
Anyway, knowing the track record for these things, it probably won't work right anyway, so not much need to worry. |

FLASH EXPLOIT --- Flash Player update patch notes
Words fail me to explain just how huge this could be.
The only reason I'm not currently posting in big, red caps, "disable flash from your browser right now" is because of how complex this exploit is. It's the coding equivalent of mono-cycling down tightrope - I don't care how well you understand the principles, you have to be damn skilled to be able to pull it off.
What I will say though is to make SURE you get the latest update version of flash before some criminal figures out a way to duplicate Dowd's work.
You're using firefox? This can still get you. Got an Apple Mac? Can still get you. Running Linux? Can still get you.
If your browser is running the Flash plugin, then it doesn't matter what your operating system is, this can get you.
Hopefully Adobe have managed to successfully remove further vulnerabilities but the insane complexity of this vulnerability is .... well, I guess you need to be a bit of a geek to understand it, but the article I linked up top does a reasonable job.
To check what version of the flash player you are running, go here.
If it says, 9.0.115.0 or earlier, you need to download and install the new version now!
Ok, back to work now. |

Now, I dunno if it's the British press putting spin on things, but the report I was hearing on the radio today said that, on the 12 month mark since the Virginia Tech University massacre, there's a lobbying body calling for the students to have the right to carry firearms.
Excuse me?
The guy interviewed on the radio said, "If the students had been allowed to carry concealed firearms, then Cho Seung-Hui would never have been able to kill 32 other students."
Uh, well, I guess yeah, someone else would have shot him back pretty quickly.
I just can't cope with the idea that the solution to someone flipping out and shooting people is to give everyone guns.
The story linked above is a piece on a college campus in Utah where it is already legal for all the students to carry guns.
As Brent gets ready for class, he grabs a couple of text books, hisbackpack, and his 9mm semi-automatic Glock handgun. He straps it to hisbelt. He said: "There have been a couple of times in my life where I've been wishing I had a way to defend myself. "I've noticed that I'm completely at the mercy of other people and I don't like that feeling." |

Nice one guys.
So, as the game was released in 2005, only 2.5 years ago, I check the developer website. Gone. Nothing. Eventually I find they were bought by irrational games, who have since been bought by take2 games. However, they've got no mention of FFvtTR anywhere on their site.
So .... anyone who still has Win XP on their PC want a free game? If I took it back to CEX for exchange I might get 50p if they were feeling generous. |
