I remember maybe 60 seconds worth of time in the operating room, then suddenly it was 9:30 and I was very, very sleeping.

Not much pain yet... no worse than a sore throat, though that's supposed to be changing soon, and not in the good way.

Solution? My stomach feels a little funny, but that's probably just the nachos I just ate.
How come when a Republican is involved in a scandal, the headline always mentions their party affiliation, but when a Democrat is involved in a scandal, it's either buried 12 paragraphs down or you have to go look it up yourself.

Don't believe me? Try finding Kwame Kilpatrick's party affiliation in the CNN story. Didn't see it? Me either. Now see how long it takes you to find Spitzer's party affiliation in most of the mainstream media's stories about his recent scandal. Keep scrolling, it's way down there at the bottom.

Now look for those same stories about Larry Craig, and try to find a mainstream media story where it doesn't identify him as Republican either in the headline or the first line of the story.

Not that I actually care about any of the scandals, or which party is involved. But if you're going to call attention to one, call attention to the other, too. Better yet, don't call attention to either. Does it really matter? I don't think either party can lay a claim to moral purity in their politicians, so let's just all agree to understand that politicians in general are dirty, dirty people who like hookers, blow, threesomes, and the occasional same-sex encounter with a stranger in an airport restroom.

Then again, maybe they just figured it was safe to assume that with a name like Kwame, we'd know which party he belonged to.

Edit: Okay, I guess I was exaggerating. I see quite a few Larry Craig stories where his party affiliation isn't shown until the 2nd or 3rd paragraph, though those are mostly follow-up stories.

Stop driving like assholes.

Getting to your destination 13 seconds earlier isn't worth endangering yourself, and more importantly, all the other people on the road around you.

"But I'm a good driver, _sterno_, I can go 10-20 mph faster than the rest of the traffic on a crowded highway and bob and weave just fine! I'm skilled at it, and I won't run into anyone!" Let's assume for a minute that you are indeed a god of driving among mortals, and you can pull off high-speed lane changes in heavy traffic without ever hitting anyone. Good for you. That doesn't mean everyone else has your unquestionable skills. Not only are you being an asshole when you cut between two cars so that you leave mere inches between the guy in front of you and the guy in back of you, but once in a great while the guy in back of you might react in surprise and hit his brakes, and who knows what chain-reaction that might cause behind him? Likewise, the guy in front of you might happen to slow down right then, causing you to hit your brakes, giving that guy behind you who you just forced to kiss your bumper almost no time to react. You don't actually have to hit another vehicle to cause an accident.

Why are you in such a goddamned hurry anyway? Is the ease, speed, and comfort of your trip more important than everyone else's? It sure seems that you think so when you see stopped traffic ahead, but you ride half a mile up that exit lane anyone and then try to cut back in front of all those people who actually waited their turn. Hell, I don't know, maybe you are that important. Maybe someone's got their finger poised right over the big red button that starts World War III, and only you can stop them. At least turn on your turn signal when you're cutting in front of them, and have the common courtesy to look a little embarrassed.

And just so I'm not picking on just the fast/reckless drivers, you cruise control robots need to know when to speed up or slow down a little. If the guy in front of you is doing 64.999 mph in the 65 zone, and you want to do 65.0 mph in the 65 zone, you might consider just dropping your speed by .001 mph and riding behind him. Or speeding up a bit to pass and getting ahead of him before resuming your normal speed. You don't need to change lines and hold up traffic as you slowly pass him over the next 7 hours.

Last but not least, why are you doing 50 mph in a 25 mph residential zone, even if the street looks free and clear and there is no other traffic around? All it takes is that one time for a kid to come out into the street from just out of sight as he chases a ball into the street or rides his bike into it without looking, or anyone of those other hundreds of stupid things that kids do, and suddenly doing 50 mph isn't going to seem like such a cool idea to you anymore. It's a little late then, though. Sure, this isn't a likely scenario. But why chance it? Again, where the hell are you trying to get to in such a hurry? I hope you have a better excuse for that kid's parents than "I had to get home in time for American Idol!".

Stop being assholes. Think about how even the small chances you take on a daily basis can affect those around you. The first time I got behind the wheel of a car with my driver's permit, my dad said to me, "If you wind up mangled or dead before your time, a car is likely going to be the reason." A little dramatic, sure, but it's true. We tend to easily forget the fact that all it takes is one bad decision or a bit of unluckiness to turn our nice, convenient vehicles into two ton death machines. There are already good enough odds that you'll be involved in an accident at some point in your life. No sense tweaking those odds to increase the chance that it'll kill yourself or someone else.

And no, this message wasn't brought on by anything in particular, other than seeing people driving 45 mph and passing closely through other traffic in a 30 mph area that often has pedestrians, all while talking on the cell phone. But it's okay, because accidents are something that will only happen to other people who aren't as good drivers, and not to them, right?

1) The code that andamaroo posted the other day is not the code you'll need to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl with him. The code you'll need is a 12-digit friend code that you generate when you first connect in the game. I'd give you mine right now, but it's at home, and I'm not.

2) _sterno_ sucks at jumping in platform games.

3) andamaroo sucks at killing _sterno_ with Wario's motorcycle, but likes to try anyway.

4) The classic controller is a little too small to hold comfortable and use for an extended period of time.

5) _sterno_'s GameCube controllers have gone missing, though.

6) Nintendo doesn't seem to sell wireless GameCube style controllers, even though they really should. I'd buy one today. I'm betting a lot of other people who recently purchased Super Smash Brothers Brawl would as well.

7) SSBB got to the point where it was running pretty slowly for both of us. I'm not sure if there was a problem with my wireless connection, or if the game is just chugging more Wii resources than was healthy. I'm guessing the former, what with about 20 different wireless signals in range in my apartment complex.

8) You can make him a Nod commander in Command & Conquer 3, but Sawyer from Lost will still always be Sawyer from Lost. And Billy Dee Williams acting can't even really be called acting anymore. He just stands there and grins at the camera like an idiot while delivering his lines with way too much drama.

9) Michael Ironside is cool.

10) eloe owes me a movie review. Use of the mimic scale is not required, but is recommended.

11) I haven't played WOW in 138 days, making this the longest break since I first started playing, and I don't miss it. Don't they give out key chains for this or something?

12) The Anyone But assfingers button needs an update.

13) My candidate is better than your candidate.

14) I don't have a candidate.

15) I hated D&D 3rd edition. I think D&D 4th edition might be fun.

16) I just finished Duma Key by Stephen King, and while he still doesn't write as good a horror novel as he used to, he's at least started reversing his downward trend. Slightly. I guess technically Lisey's Story was better than Cell, but really, from Cell, there was nowhere to go but up, so I'm not sure it counts. Get back to what you know, though, man. Scary clowns and Kathy Bates with a sledgehammer!

17) If you watch too much of The Wire at once (as I'm told white people like to do), then you really need to start watching what you're saying, because "motherfucker" will keep trying to pop out at all the wrong times. Likewise, if you watch that one Chappelle skit, you'll find yourself yelling "White Power!", which is almost never appropriate.

18) Being that I'm now in a steady relationship, I find that I'm no longer as willing to go see crappy movies at the theater. This isn't necessarily because I have less time... it's because while I was always willing to subject myself to crappy movies, it's harder to subject a loved one to them.

19) facehead2k and andamaroo, when is the Bloodyface movie coming out?

20) I should stop this list at 20 or 25. Why can't I stop at 23, though? Would it be wrong? Why do I feel compelled to have to be divisible by 5? How high can I get before it has to be divisible by 10 instead? Once I get to a 100, I'm pretty sure I can stop at 100 or even 101, but I'm pretty sure if I go past that I'll have to go all the way to 200. Who makes these crazy rules?

21) It probably doesn't matter. I think everyone stopped reading somewhere around #4.

22) Which makes sense, because I ran out of material around #3.

23) i wan be spave ce marine

Looks better than the previous trailer. Definitely looks better than the Spider-Man and Fantastic Four movies, so I'm labeling myself as "cautiously optimistic". It won't be a masterpiece of the cinema or anything, but I'm generally not expecting that from a superhero movie.

The embedded whatchamawhosit isn't working, so you'll have to look here.

It looks like it's $8.99/month for unlimited downloads (but only 1 movie at a time).

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Spider-Man fans are outraged that Marvel Comics has turned back the clock and dissolved the marriage of its wall-clinging superhero. While followers of the movie version know the character is single with a sweetheart, as far as comic book fans are concerned Spider-Man has been married to Mary Jane Watson for the past 21 years.

Now, in a plot twist by the publishers Marvel, Spider-Man, known otherwise as Peter Parker, and Mary Jane, make a deal with the devil-like villain Mephisto. The story, in Spider-Man comic number 545, sees the couple's marriage annulled in return for the life of Peter's Aunt May, of late stuck in a deep coma.

Suddenly, Peter is once again a 20-something bachelor, nerdy, living with his elderly aunt - and single. His marriage has been, in fact, erased from everyone's memory.

Mephisto says that he is offering the deal, in which Spider-Man's identity is also made secret again, because Parker's relationship with Mary Jane "is the rarest love of all", a bond that is "pure, unconditional and made holy in the eyes of He who I hate most".

Mephisto says: "A love like yours comes about but once in millennia and to take that away from Him ... is a victory like none other imaginable."

Marvel claims that a married Spider-Man made life difficult for its writers and had been a source of regret ever since the couple's big day in 1987.

This is making me glad I haven't managed to get to the comic store since September. The no-marriage thing doesn't surprise me... they've been looking for a way to undo that for years. I always knew they'd figure out a way to make his identity secret again. I just didn't think it would be the equivalent of waving their hands and saying "It was all a dream". Hand it to JMS to write this stellar masterpiece. The upshot: It's like everything else that JMS wrote for the comic never happened!
