07:06 pm - Life, the Universe, an' Evvvvv'rything...
Life has been pretty boring lately, funnily enough. Except for looking for jobs (thus far unsuccessful, more's the pity), I've only really been mucking around, trying to write systems for LARPs. I'm working on an IK one, and a 'Universal System' one, so that you can get characters from practically any universe working effectively in the same system.

It's strange, not expecting a new Mordavia game in April or so... but hey, we won. Strange feeling, winning, and losing another character.

Oh well. C'est la vie, ne?

Did more editing of Reflections, so here's the rest of Chapter Two.

Reflections In Blood And Steel: Chapter 2: ContactCollapse )

And so the general blood an' guts of the thing starts to come out. It's a war story, people. I made a deliberate effort to cut out fluffiness and make it real. I think I... well, at least somewhat achieved it.

I really should write more. I only have... eight... chapters thus far... *laughs*

07:30 pm - I suppose I should update...
Well, Mordavia was an intense weekend, I lost one character and started another. I'm tired.

From requests, here's another installment of Reflections. It's kinda long, 'cos it's the first half of the second chapter.

Reflections in Blood and Steel: Chapter 2: ContactCollapse )

I'd post all of the chapter, but really, there's just too much of it. I'm really trying to develop characters here, but I fail dismally more often than not. *sigh*

09:49 pm - It's Happening...

I can't believe the amount I wrote today and yesterday. I was at 34,000 a couple of days ago, got to 41,000 yesterday, and I'm at 48,000 now! Only 2,000 to go, I know I can do it! Despite Writer's Blocks leaping out at me, I have fought them off with the help fo friends' evil suggestions, a shock-sword, and a bolt-pistol. I've also been writing little random pieces of other stuff and further on in the storyline to help me not go nuts. :P

I'll post more chapterage when I'm happy with it, at least mostly, and possibly one of the other pieces which I'm rather proud of, in a sick and twisted kind of way. It's called 'Standard', and is set in the WH40K universe. The brief is 'To be made a blasphemy'. It's really rather nasty, but then, that fits nicely with the 40K universe.

The Mordavia preps are good too: David was wonderful and finished the sleeves for my jack. Also, I have two retainers (Geneva and Fie), and they're nearly kitted up. I just need to get Fie's armour done, so he can wear it. The I just need to pack, now. Shouldn't be at all hard. :)

It's happening. :)

And despite all the goodness, I'm feeling sick! Argh. Sucks to be me. Don't want to be sick for the weekend, so shall dose myself up on vitamins and good stuff and hope that that helps.

08:52 pm - *waves*
Hi evvybody!

Was at a wedding over the weekend (as an usher, secondary bridesmaid and general dogsbody :P ), so no progress on such things as novel and Mordavia preps.

Oh dear, I just realised: three days of writing and four days until Mordavia.

*wibble*

Have to get 10,000 words done, along with finishing the jack, getting Gene's costume together, paying for him, sewing a Von Braun banner or tabard or both, get shield and sword practise in...

I had better get going!

12:04 pm - Mary-Sues...

Right, so I've been accused of creating Mary-Sues, but I wanted to check out the claims... So I got all my previous characters that I play/have played for any amount of time, and tested them out, on The Fiction Mary-Sue test first, and then The Universal Mary-Sue Test.

Star Subar/Hoshiko Suibara (Mordavia, vampire merc/D20 samurai)
Fiction Score: 40: Mary-Sue.
Universal Score: 22-28: Some definite Sue-like tendancies here.
Star has a major disadvantage here, in that she's a vampire... that kinda adds unnecessary points. *sigh* And she fell hopelessly in love, which didn't help :P

Kasmira Mekevich (Iron Kingdoms, arcane mechanik)
Fiction Score: 3: The Anti-Sue
Universal Score: 19: A character can go either way at this point. For an RPG character, however, you should still be within a safe level.
HAH! *grin* I was worried about this one. Allister has a lot to answer for (incidentally, he scored 25: Borderline-Sue, and 53: Irredeemable Mary-Sue. *sighs*).

Wulfgifu (OWBN, Gangrel)
Fiction Score: 30: Borderline-Sue.
Universal Score: 28: Some definite Sue-like tendancies here.
Again, Wulfgifu has the same problem as Star: she's a Vampire, and that kinda screws with some of the questions. But otherwise, I think I'm doing pretty well.

Edeline Gregor (Mordavia, human merc)
Fiction Score: 19: The Non-Sue.
Universal Score: 27: Some definite Sue-like tendancies here.
I think the 'Sue tendencies' come from the fact of her being a merc, and damn good at her job. Otherwise... she's pretty balanced, which I'm pleased with. :)

Lasraea (Eberron, drow ranger)
Fiction Score: 20: Borderline-Sue.
Universal Score: 38: Role-players, at this point your characters are likely to provoke eye-rolling and exclaimations of "yeah, right!".
Hum. Amusing. The level of detail of the 'Universal' test means that things like 'she's a drow' have an impact here... but I think her character's okay. *shrug*

Ji'mara Gozath (Mordavia, Demon guardswoman)
Fiction Score: 16: The Non-Sue.
Universal Score: 28: Some definite Sue-like tendancies here.
Surprising, given that she is a demon. However, the fact that she's not really anything special other than an okay fighter does have an impact here.

Shura Doi (Warcraft, human rogue/Infiltrator)
Fiction Score: 26: Borderline-Sue.
Universal Score: 40: Role-players, at this point your characters are likely to provoke eye-rolling and exclaimations of "yeah, right!".
Not bad, given she was my first-ever RPG character. And I specifically wanted to make here a ninja. *eyeroll* We do not always know how to make balanced characters when first in RPG.

Althia Crownheart (Forgotten Realms/Spelljammer, cleric of Tyr)
Fiction Score: 11: The Non-Sue.
Universal Score: 21: A character can go either way at this point. For an RPG character, however, you should still be within a safe level.
Interesting - but given that she was a goody-goody cleric, it's kinda not surprising... Althia never disobeys the rules. And apparently not the rule of 'Thou shalt not be a Mary-Sue', as well. :)

Kagami Kimi (Big Eyes Small Mouth, Shinto priestess/samurai)
Fiction Score: 26: Borderline-Sue.
Universal Score: 14: Your character should be fine at this level.
Heh. The fact that Kimi's actually cursed balances the fact that she has a little magical power as a priestess.

These results are conclusively... interesting. :)

Kasmira, Edeline, Ji'mara, Althia, and Kimi are not Sues, though have some tendencies. I think most RPG characters do, though: they're designed to be exceptional people.
Star, Wulfgifu, and Lasraea are borderline-to-Sue-ish, but kinda disadvantaged by what they are...
Shura's just a plain Sue. :P

Something I note here is that the further back the character goes, the more they have Sue-ish tendencies - Shura, my first character, was definitely a Sue, while Kasmira, my latest character is rather un-Sueish (despite Allister). I suppose we get better at it the further along we go. It's always good to have practise... :)

01:52 pm - An Amusing Character Meme...
An interesting meme from the wonderful allova...

Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs, before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.

1. Star Subar/Hoshiko Suibara (Mordavia, vampire merc/D20 samurai)
2. Kasmira Mekevich (Iron Kingdoms, arcane mechanik)
3. Wulfgifu (OWBN, Gangrel)
4. Edeline Gregor (Mordavia, human merc)
5. Sir Lupina (Pendragon, lady knight)
6. Lasraea (Eberron, drow ranger)
7. Ji'mara Gozath (Mordavia, Demon guardswoman)
8. Shura Doi (Warcraft, human rogue/Infiltrator)
9. Althia Crownheart (Forgotten Realms/Spelljammer, cleric of Tyr)
10. Khettakara (D&D, red dragon)
11. Ri-kyu (D20, human ranger)
12. Kagami Kimi (Big Eyes Small Mouth, Shinto priestess/samurai)

Anyhoo, now that this is done, I'm going to go back to writing smutty fanfic. :D

Oh, Kelly's Heroes just came up. Great fun, that song.
Jesus was a black man!
No, Jesus was Batman!
No, that was Bruce Wayne...
Amusing. I loves it.

09:22 pm - Updatage!
Well, I suppose I'd better say summat about everythin'.

Mordavia: Sanctuary was a great deal of fun, despite the fact that I got coerced into a DRESS. I got told I 'caused an affray' to the Prince when I went off shrieking that I had to wear one, *laughs* which was amusing. I really can't be bothered doing a run-down now, so I shall linkage the page of reminisces and photos.
Reviews here
Photos here
It was really rather frustrating that I didn't end up in any of the photos, given that I put so much effort into my costumes, but... well, I suppose that's life. *sigh*

Uni is depressing. Let me say no more.

IK stuff is going well: I now have the gorgeous Epic Allister *fangirlish squeeing*, and my basic IK outfit is almost done! It just requires a pair of shoulderplates on the shirt, and kneepads. Finally got it photoed today, in order to get it up on the Forums for the Biweekly Fanart Contest. The theme was 'Yourself in the Iron Kingdoms, and I couldn't resist. Have a squiz at progress!
I've been drawing and doing more picturage lately, since I have the inspiration, and I'm certainly getting better. Admittedly, it's a bit of a toll on my Photobucket account, but it's worth it. *shrugs*

Anyhoozles, off to bed with me, just wanted to let you know that all was right with the world of Erin. :)

08:43 am - Dum-de-doozle.
Well, lecture finished somewhat early (joys), so I've got nuffink to do until 1pm. If I'm lucky, David'll be coming into town, and I'll get to see him, but other than that...

Hang on a sec'. Lab writeup. *poots* Damn, why do I have to remember such inconvenient things. Oh well, it'll take an hour or so.

And then I have nothing to do.

Hang on a sec'. The leather cap for Ed. Needs to be patterned out so it can be done before Sanctuary. Can be done in an hour or so, I think, including the walk to Emily Place and back... Note to self: get blue material for dress, and hacksaw to finish the Tharn conversion.

And then I have nothing to do...

Hm. Possibly those character sketches that were on Fan Art, madderkayne doesn't seem to be doing them... oh, and I have to check King of Cards for the Prime Haley Alternate Sculpt for that model of Kasmira as a warcaster... and a Guardian 'jack, and a Trencher, so I can do Watson and Thardis... and I need to find a model that's suitable for conversion to Indre... and finishing that short, Somewhere I Belong, is probably a good idea, I've been wanting to do that for ages...

Maybe I have something to do... :D

09:04 pm - Ye Gods...
Life, the Universe, and Everything is Good.

My god, it's so good to say that.

Holidays are relaxing me so much. No more horrific hours for work, no more exams. Just what I want to do, when I want to do (with the minor exclusion of someone generally getting up at 6am and disturbing my beauty sleep :P ).

There are a few things I need to work on - I'm helping with a couple of LARPs, so I have some writeups and sketches/drawings. Got to send off some Masquerade details, too. Also need to finish off character sheets and backstories for a couple of RPGs - though that's pleasure, not work. As is the writing I'm getting done.

I'm getting crafty things I wanted to get done - the jack is on the way, the dress is (kinda) happening, cross-stitch is being considered, and (best of all), my Skorne are actually getting painted. Technically, they should be red and gold, but I am feeling unique - and therefore, they shall be blue and gold. The story is they're Vinter's personal guard, but it's more that blue and gold and silver are my personal colours.

Oh, and a great personal life. :D Though you guys probably picked that up - I'm going out with David.

*smile* So... that's me, as of recently. Like I said, it's all good.

10:23 am - *reality resets*
allova:
We look around. There's nobody in the hallway. "No one saw that," I say somewhat plaintively to him. Then I look up and find that _steelphoenix_ was standing in the back door, a good ten metres down the corridor, looking at us as though she was trying to decide whether she actually saw what she thought she saw.

"Did you two just KISS???!!!"

Well, that's the big news of my weekend... Anna and Tigger are together. Yes, that's Anna, a.k.a. Acanthus, and Tigger, as in the mad bastard who was a Valkyrie at one point.

I had no idea it was happening, and it has been for about a month. *feels inobservant*

Argle. Erin does total reality reset.

It's just that I'd never seen Anna going for an older guy (16-year age gap, I think), let alone Tigger, but... hey, they'll have fun, knowing both of them. I'm glad they're happy together, and really hope it goes well. *huggles for Anna*

Previous to that, there was a photoshoot - Adam photoing me and Juliet in bodypaint - and a Battle Day. We arrived late, I kitted up, and got onto the field. After about 15 minutes, I slipped in a cowpat (the disadvantage of the field by the Mound), twisted my ankle, and had to sit down for the rest of it. Grrr. Then off to the Barracks to get ready for the Toga Party.

Sam (a.k.a. w00t_ on the Mordavia Forums) and I ended up being in charge of soup-making. It turned out rather well, I think. :) The rest of the toga party was lotsa fun too. :) Sheets and togas and other stuff. And a large cup of coffee. *ska-boing*

Went back to David's afterwards - needed chats and hugs and somewhere I could feel safe. The Fates are still being disturbingly nice to me, and I'm still jumpy for no apparent reason. Or rather, I'm getting the premonition-sense that something nasty is coming, and it's going to be nasty. Joy. Wish I could get specifics, but I can't. *sigh*

Went to a baptism yesterday, with family. The baptism was nice, though too many people I didn't know made me a bit uncomfortable - I went outside far more than was polite, though nobody noticed. Shopping afterwards, due to being near Botany. *wry smile* Trailing around after Mum and sisters is just as boring as I remember. Though I did get a shirt out of it, I still didn't like walking in high heels (after not doing so for ages), and nobody slowing down even when I was limping... *poots*

Dancer's Promise as per usual, and we finally figured out a way to get home! (From a techno-universe which is totally different to the D&D stuff that we're used to) A cryo-shield, which transfers the plasma of the sun that we have to dive into to power up the shields. The fun bit is going to be getting it to stay there long enough for us to open our portal generator to get through...

An interesting weekend, all up.
