11:02 pm - "Iyoku (Desire)" by DrivvenWrinth (NC-17)
Fandom: NARUTO
Pairing: Naruto/Neji/Shikamaru, Itachi/Shikamaru, Sai/Sasuke
Length: 2 chapters, 21,553
Author on LJ: drivvenwrinth
Author Website: AO3 works page
Why this must be read: The best word for this fic is "campy". It's pretty much a gay threesome romance novel, and all the more fun for it. All the characters are working adults, and you don't have to know canon to enjoy this fic. It could easily be original fiction. The author uses some lovely imagery, and I found the story very engaging and just had to find out what happens! Ino completely steals the show. XD To be fair, the Uchiha brothers are not shown in a very good light, but don't take anything too seriously. This is a straight-up romance novel, and you gotta have a villain so the heroes can save the dude in distress! :3 Warning: graphic sex. [modern world AU, no canon spoilers]

09:17 pm - "Leaving Home" by Luzula (R)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Eric Kitikmeot
Length: 12,800
Author on LJ: luzula
Author Website: Luzula's fic is also available on Ao3
Why this must be read: Luzula has written a very believable eighteen-year-old Fraser who's not sure of his place in the world or his relationship with others.

Ben's starting to think seriously about the practical ethics of policing, with a young, angry Eric to challenge him.  Ben has the same desire for justice and care for people that we see in the show, but he's much younger and hasn't yet carved out a place for himself.  Though "Leaving Home" does include a relationship between Ben and Eric, it's a very solitary story, focused on the inside of Ben's head more than anything else.

"...Do you want the RCMP to consist of old racists, or men who actually care about the people who live here?"

"You think it's that easy? It'll wear you down, Ben, until you're just another Mountie obeying orders." Eric shook his head.

07:42 pm - Amateur Theatrics by Galaxysoup (Teen)
Fandom: Avengers movie!verse
Pairing: Gen
Length: 26,586
Author on LJ: galaxysoup
Author Website: galaxysoup on AO3

Author’s Summary: In which Thor’s primary problem-solving method (a mighty blow from Mjolnir) fails to have the desired effect on a magical artifact, and his secondary method (a mightier blow from Mjolnir) proves to be actively disastrous.

Why this must be read: I love this story so much. Then again, I love everything Galaxysoup has written in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). I’m not usually a big fan of kidfics, but Galaxysoup renders not only a wonderfully believable child, but makes that child absolutely believable in the context of the history of the characters. So even if you aren’t a fan of kidfics, you should read this. It’s a perfect blend of humor and angst.

05:22 pm - Odd Jobs // Jericho Brown
I spent what light Saturday sent sweating
And learned to cuss cutting grass for women
Kind enough to say they couldn’t tell the damned
Difference between their mowed lawns
And their vacuumed carpets just before
Handing over a five-dollar bill rolled tighter
Than a joint and asking me in to change
A few light bulbs. I called those women old
Because they wouldn’t move out of a chair
Without my help or walk without a hand
At the base of their backs. I called them
Old, and they must have been; they’re all dead
Now, dead and in the earth I once tended.
The loneliest people have the earth to love
And not one friend their own age—only
Mothers to baby them and big sisters to boss
Them around, women they want to please
And pray for the chance to say please to.
I don’t do that kind of work anymore. My job
Is to look at the childhood I hated and say
I once had something to do with my hands.

02:45 pm - Into The Arms Of Morpheus by JoJo (G)

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 2500 words/20 minutes
Author on LJ: solosundance
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read: This is my second rec for JoJo, and I'm cheating slightly - I was bound to sooner or later *g*

Into The Arms Of Morpheus has already been wonderfully recced by murphybabe about a year ago, but I'd like to give you the alternative option of having JoJo read it to you herself as a podfic. Now, what could be nicer than that? Perfect for those late nights when you're too tired to read, and too awake to sleep.

The story is fairly short and takes place in Bodie's flat immediately after an operation that, although successful, was too close a call. Doyle is trying to recover after being snatched back from the bad guys; Bodie takes care of him and the other lads from the squad unite in a protective layer around them both. It's an unusual insight into the aftermath and repercussions of an operation, totally beleivable, and as always with JoJo, wonderfully written. And, should you prefer, wonderfully read too *g*

If you haven't tried the podfic before, then please, do give it a go.

As an m4b Audiobook Into The Arms Of Morpheus

Or as an mp3 file Into The Arms Of Morpheus

And if you'd prefer to simply read it for yourself, here on AO3 Into The Arms Of Morpheus

03:38 pm - The Beer Belly Effect by jjtaylor (Mature)
Fandom: Bandom (My Chemical Romance, Reggie and the Full Effect, LeATHERMØUTH)
Pairing: James Dewees/Frank Iero
Length: 2,280 words
Author on LJ: jjtaylor
Author Website: at the AO3
Why this must be read: I love the way Frank relates to his body in this story, and the unapologetic way Dewees flirts with Frank. It's a really hot and atmospheric story.

01:51 pm - "In A World Called Catastrophe" by arewewinning (PG)
Fandom: FRINGE
Characters/Pairings: Walter Bishop, Peter Bishop, Olivia Dunham
Length: 1764 words
Author on LJ: arewewinning
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

Because this fic captures a disjointed sense that feels just right for Walter, exploring a little of how his life was changed by Olivia's request of him and the subsequent return of Peter into his sphere too.

09:31 pm - "Childish Things" by Betula (PG)
Fandom: NARUTO
Pairing: none, Team 7 gen
Length: one-shot at 3,346 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: FF.net profile
Why this must be read: I love how an outsider's POV of our favorite characters can help us see them in an entirely new light. This fic does that wonderfully! I also find it very easy to relate to the main character and her fascination with dashing, heroic ninja. How many of us as children dreamed of being pirates, astronauts, or movie stars? Her observations of Team 7 are touching, and her dose of reality quietly chilling. Wow. [set in Team 7's happy genin days]

06:21 pm - Possession, by ForestLark (T)
Fandom: PERSON OF INTEREST
Pairing: gen (brief reference to past Jessica/John)
Length: 1400 words
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: on ff.net or on AO3
Why this must be read: One reason I love fanfic is for how it fills in the missing spaces. At this point I doubt we'll ever know what happened to the photo of Jessica and John that Carter found; this story gives one plausible explanation. Also, the author has a deft touch with Carter and Reese's points of view in their sections.

Possession: on ff.net or on AO3
