Powers: convert sonic vibrations into various forms of photovoltaic energy, including photon pulses, laser beams, hard-light holographic illusions, destructive force fields, light fog, hypnotic bursts of light, and levitation. As a side effect to her power, she is not adversely affected by extremes of sound or light. She also has a general low-level glow to her unless she concentrates on dampening it, which can cause serious migraines if it goes on for more than three to four hours at a time.

Skills: Talented singer and dancer, can also play the piano, keyboard and guitar. She is also particularly intelligent, and could have entered the Harvard Law School, had she chosen to follow her father's dream. As it is, she completed pre-law at Harvard.

History: Ali was brought up by her father and grandmother, her mother leaving them at an early age as she and Ali's father were unable to agree about Katherine's choice of careers. Her father was dead set against her having anything to do with music, but Ali had inherited her mother's talent and passion, and from an early age would spend many hours around the house singing and dancing. She began to develop horrible migraines from about the age twelve, which her father blamed on the music she listened to. However, it became apparent that Ali was in fact a mutant, when at her first public performance at her high school talent show a fantastical light show accompanied her. The audience loved it, and Ali then began practicing in secret, hoping to enhance her performances. Her father, however, was not particularly impressed with his daughter's growing desire to be a performer, and pressured her into going to college and doing pre-law. While at college, she joined several bands, and once her college years were over, she moved to New York in the hope of making it big.
She continued to use her light powers for her shows, and it was through this that she came to Xavier's attention through Cerebro. Scott and Jean were dispatched to see her, arriving in New York as she was performing in the Hellfire Club. There is an attack, and Dazzler is able to help save Scott and Jean by using her light powers for something other than entertainment. Upon being invited to join the X-Men, she turns them down, saying that all she wants to do is to be a star. They concede, leaving her with an open invitation to join them whenever she likes.
An unfortunate side-effect to this incident is that Ali is outed as a mutant, and while in some circles, this makes her fascinating, her growing popularity amongst the general population wanes, and after the Alkali Lake incident, she is attacked by an anti-mutant mob at one of her performances. She fled to Xavier's mansion, where she has become one of the X-Men.

After briefly dating Doctor Hank McCoy, Ali ended up back in New York in the arms of a former boyfriend, Sebastian Shaw. They've since married and have plans to move to Australia, where Ali will be making a movie.
