More than 1.5 million young women earn a living by stitching garments in factories in Bangladesh. Conditions are poor and pay is desperately low - most women earn less than US $1.50 for a day's work. But it's vital income, and the women and their families depend on it.
In 2000 a US trade act, which gives preferential treatment to poor countries, became law. However, even though Bangladesh is one of the world's poorest countries, it was excluded from the act. Garment orders from US customers have since fallen by 30-40 per cent. And things are set to get even worse when the 'Multi-Fibre Arrangement' - which currently protects Bangladesh from competition with bigger exporters - ends in 2005.
Rich nations could put the crisis into reverse by reducing their high import tariffs - and giving Bangladesh its fair share of the market.
Bangladesh's garment industry was built on the back of women's labour - but the women will be the ones who pay the price if it collapses. Up to 300,000 of them have already lost their jobs.

Today was bundles of fun, in the morning at emilys house with Lizzy and Chelsea we woke up them got dressed, Emilys dad had to take a phone call so we said we'de meet him at jamba juice. Right when we got outside a camp consuler was picking up kids and he picked us up and took us to Jamba juice, then mark camp and took us to camp!! ZACH CAME! I hadn't seen him im like forever! THEN EMILY, and HILIARY CAME! We went bowling then when we got to hte bowling alley ERIC CAME! It was very exciting! We broke up eric and his girlfriend cammie. We went to Yu-GE-O! IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE! PSH!! IT SUCKED! but it was SO cute because Eric asked Lizzy ouy and now there going out! Very Special. They kissed. Even more special. My mom picked Chelsea and I up and she went to soccer practic. I begged my father to get me a cell phone and he said tommrow ill make some phone calls for it! COOL! Yeah i had a fatening dinner but i was good, i liked the salad. Well BBFN!

TODAY I WOKE UP AT MY CUZIONS HOUSE, WE WATCHED BABY VIEDOS OF US, IM SO CUTE! WE WENT TO THE MARKET AND GOT FOOD OT EAT, WE WHERE EATING IT OUT SIDE AND MY CUZION GETS INTO TRUBLE TO SHE HAD TO SIT IN THE CAR FOR A WHILE, ITS WAS HALIARIOS! THEN WE WENT TO THE BEACH, AGAIN! BUT IT WAS REALLY FUN, WE WENT SAND CRAP DIGGING AND WE FOUND HHHUUUGGGEEE ONES! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW BIG THEY WHERE...THERE WHERE LIKE 100 MAYBE, PROBALY MORE! WELL AFTER THE BEACH I WENT BACK TO MY CUZIONS HOUSE, AND WE TOOK SHOWERS AND THEN WE WENT TO MY OTHER CUZIONS HOUSE WHERE WE'RE BABY SITTING...WE CAME LATE TO THE KIDS ONLY HAD LIKE AN HOUR LEFT TO STAY UP...WE BAKED COOKIES AND HAD BUNDLES OF FUN...WE HACKED INTO MY UNCLES COMPUUTER TO USE THE AIM, AND EXPLORER, THATS WHY IM HERE NOW, BUT IM GONNA GO DO SOMETHING ELSE! umm. today i woke up at my grandmas house, i ate french toast, very yummy! them my brother nad his girlfirned went to the wild animal park and i headed to hte beach, wiht HOT GUYS and subway! After the beach with my cuzions and family, i got ot my grandmas house and changed and went to see princess diaries! I WANT HER MALL! I fell asleep at my cuzions house!! And watch baby viedo!

8/12/04
Yesterday i woke up around 9:15ish and fought with my mom so no go to San Diego, i lost, so i had to pack...( But im coming home early with my brother and his girl friend!) I went to the nail salon so get my nails taken off them we hit the road, Jon left before us, but when we got the the restrant in newport to eat with them they called us and told us that they where just passing LAX, (How could that be if they left before us) Mom and I took the time to do a little shopping, but then we sat down and got an apitizer, we got to San Diego, ( I finished my BOOK! I LOVED IT!)and went out to eat MORE, i couldn't and didnt eat very much, i have a bit of pizza, but was WAY so full, At about 11:00, i finaly got into bed,and we and my mom read this book of peoms, and It was dedditcated to my grandma, we where in amaziment! Well i went to bed and now i g2g bye!

Yesterday-tuesday- I went to Universal with Tessa and Jessica, OMG IT WAS SOOO FUN! We went on like every ride and had a blast with Luc and his annoying, " HardCore Punk Rapper friends!" (LOL TESSA AND JESSICA) YA, it was a blast, we put shaving cream and mens after shave all over them, we tickled there ear's, with a lot of stuff, i combed there hair 2, IT WAS HALARIOUS!We went to bed at like 1:15, we feel asleep watching my favorite show (ya right)" KIM POSSIBLE!"
Today-Wenesday- We got wookin up by Luc and his " Hardcore puck rapper friends" what a joy! We got pissed...then after those annoying brats left us alone, tessa went thorugh her clothes and gave us some...FUN, We kicked it at the beach, i started talking to these kids and told them i went to there school, it was funny, we went to tessa's dads work, there where filming a comercial, we ate the food, it was good. I got home at like 6:00 or something like that, i have a fun week with the Newinhouses, I ate a good hamubuger when i got home, Chris and i bushed me mom in hte pool and them he pushed me...( he had all ready went in...) Ya, im gonna watch 13 going on 30 lata, well hope you felt like you where in my day, to bad you weren't, JKJK i love ya

Omg at camp i had a blast wiht Lizzy, and Sophie! There was a lot of soccer but it was a blast! We met a lot of people 2, gianna, arriela, corey, girls from mizery and a ton of hot guys.There where coaches from all over hte world, they where really kool, some form ierland,Mizery, and some from england, one of the guys from i Ierland, said Orange funny, so we kept on asking him to say it....Them one night Sophie and i thought there where gosts in the room, the drowr slammed, them te shuters mad a funny noise, we heard keys gingle, and like hte tapingof finger nails on he walls...sopihe and i where scrad shit less...(more happened...on that subject...ask me later) There was also a talent show and the guys dressed up in our clothes...Sophie, Arelliea and me dress up in htere clothes, we danced to "hit me baby one more time" it was sooo funny! Ask me more about it later, theres soo much more to talk about!
