Spoke Too Soon
Gisha and I just spent two hours standing in the cold (Well, actually 10 °C, but after one hour of standing in he wind my fingers started going numb anyway.) waiting for the vet. After that I decided that he wasn't planning to show up.

I suppose I should call him, but I'm cold, grumpy, hungry and still phonophobic and just can't deal with that now. Not sure what I'll do yet, but calling another vet on Monday figured prominently among the fantasies I kept myself entertained with during that last half hour of waiting before I gave up.

:(

I called my old vet on Monday. The man is more classical medicine, but has the incredible advantage of answering his phone during his praxis hours, so it took exactly one call to get an appointment.

The appointment was yesterday. I arrived ten minutes early and led Gisha out of her box thinking I'd brush her so she'd look neat for the doctor. I hadn't finished tying her to the grooming place, though when the doctor walked through the gate. (He'd warned me he might be 30 minutes late, but no more than that.)

He checked her leg just like the other one does, but then suggested to do an ultrasound to make 100% sure it was the tendon and where as well as how severe the damage was. To do that he had to shave part of her leg and found that the think winter fur was hiding a skin infection which the other vet would almost certainly have missed.

The tendon's overstretched, but there's clearly no connection with the old injury which showed as a clean scar much higher up than the new problem. :)

So now we're trying to treat the tendon with a mild medicine that won't irritate the skin while the skin gets a strong antibiotic tincture.

The vet told me a lot about tendons including the German name of the one hurt, where best to walk Gisha under what circumstances (he even said to ride, if she's calmer under the saddle, but she's always felt more protected with me by her side), asked about her age (the other never took that into account), warned that tendon injuries heal slowly (the other said she was okay to ride again after two weeks - luckily I knew that much and didn't) answered all my questions and then told me when and at which number to call him to make an appointment for the checkup next week. Oh and he's actually popular with the horses. Years ago Gisha and Niki used to actually great him with rumbles of joy. ... Why did I ever leave that man?! (Okay, I know. He'd been unable to come when Gisha was bleeding after an accident and when I'd first asked Conny what vet she'd recommend for a horse she'd said that other one, if money wasn't an issue, and this one, if it was. - I now think she might even have been wrong.)

PS: No, we haven't. In summary of the whole HP series, though: HBP will remain my favourite. ;)

I'm glad the everything went OK... ^^ surely Gisha will recover completely soon. I suppose that vets are like the rest of the people: the results of their job depends on their vocation (if they have any)and how are they ^^
Küsse!!!!

I'm not sure it'll be completely at her age. There's a bigger risk that the tendon will remain vulnerable to new injuries. Still, I know that it's just overstretched and not torn now and that makes me feel a lot better.
