Saturday, September 24, 2005 Adrian Belew, opener TBA Concert on the Main Stage.
The Neighborhood Theatre
Adrian will be performing as a trio (bass, guitar & drums) for his first time here at the Theatre!
Born in 1949 as Robert Steven Belew, Adrian began his journey to become one of the greatest guitar players of all time. He began as a drummer in his high shcool band and then in the late 70's Adrian was discovered by Frank Zappa. While playing in Zappa's band, Adrian is discovered by David Bowie. Right after the conclusion of the Zappa tour, Adrian joins David Bowie's band and tours with them for another year or so. During the tour, he meets the Talking Heads and is invited to record and tour with them and he does just that. If that's not enough, on the first day of the Talking Heads tour, Adrian meets Robert Fripp. In the early 80's Fripp asks Adrian to join the reformed King Crimson. He tours and records with King Crimson until the mid 80's, then Adrian puts out his own solo albums and helps produce many great bands. One of the bands he was producing was The Raisins, soon to have Adrian join them as the Bears. Shortly after The Bears end their tour with a sold out show at the Ritz in NYC, Adrian records with Paul Simon on "Graceland". We are now up to the late 80's and Adrian has released many solo albums, recorded with and toured with The Bears again as well as releasing a few more albums on his own. Adrian begins the 90's by touring again with David Bowie and then recording on the Beatles Guitar Tribute album, Sara Hickman's "Necessary Angels" album, Crash Test Dummies "God Shuffled His Feet" and with Trent Reznor on Nine Inch Nail's "Downward Spiral". King Crimson then returns in the mid 90's and Adrian records and tours with them again. While touring with them, Adrian records with many and releases more solo albums. He also records with Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails again on their album "Fragile", this is Adrian's second appearance with them. Now we are getting to the turn of the century and Adrian is still involved with many different projects including The Bears, King Crimson & Tori Amos. In 2003, Ardian records with Les Claypool (Primus) and Danny Carey (Tool) for his next solo release. Later in 2003, Adrian also records with Ben Folds, Henry Rollins, Matt Chamberlain and John Painter for a William Shatner Record. Since then, he has recorded more, won awards, had many articles written on him and reviewing many of his albums he has work on plus Adrian makes top 100 greatest progressive artists list as a solo artist and with King Crimson and The Talking Heads.
